Red, Green, and Blue

5:04 pm - MotorBug and I had fun doing the puzzle here - a neat twist to a a cache. I sent our pictures in. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 05:04 PM

Black Acorn

4:19 pm - MotorBug took the hard way to this one and ended up with a bunch of stickers. I took the road more traveled, and that made all the difference. Found the cache OK. We'll have to explore the rest of this park some other time. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 04:19 PM

Viva Val Vista!

3:43 pm - Nice park - nasty smell from the treatment plant next door! We got the info from the first waypoind and then drove closer to the final.

The best part was watching MotorBug look the right spot, miss the cache and then going back in and retreiving it myself. TFTC.

Posted by jeff at 03:43 PM

Dynamite Park

3:26 pm - Man, I thought I would get a locationless while I was here, but I guess you claimed it when you placed it. Someday I'll find one of these...

Anyway, MotorBug found the cache quickly and the restrooms were a good find as well! Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 03:26 PM

Park 7295

3:06 pm - MotorBug had already done this one, so he waited in the car while I made the find. He was surprised how quickly I found it. I was surprised too! Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:06 PM

Home Desperate

2:31 pm - I figgured the cache location based on the name; I usually call it "The Home Despot". The hard part was finding the cache under the watch of a truck driver. We circled the lot and then I let MotorBug before the truck driver pulled away. TFTC.
Posted by jeff at 02:31 PM

A Matter of "Defence"

2:18 pm - Nicely made cache! Not hard to spot at all, either. TNLNSL. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 02:18 PM

LECBIH

2:08 pm - If it had been a weekday we might have stopped by to say hello to Marky. Not many people were around today so it was a quick grab. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 02:08 PM

Hexpedition #1

2:07 pm - DNF #2 on this one. Hasn't been found in a while though, so perhaps it's gone again.
Posted by jeff at 02:07 PM

Be Prepared

1:51 pm - MotorBug thought he had found this one before, so I waited for him to show me where it was. He found it in pretty much the first place he looked and then realized he hadn't been here before! Good enough for me. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 01:51 PM

Home Run

1:02 pm - As we approached, we guessed where it would be. Indeed it was there and we made quick work of it. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 01:02 PM

Park N' Hark

12:54 pm - I think the description on this one gave MotorBug verbal diarhea as he was mumbling all the the way there and back. Quick find and TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:54 PM

Cache N' Release

12:51 pm - This was a quick one with MotorBug and I can't seem to remember much of it either. This little program tells me that I was there, so I'll take it at that. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:51 PM

Harvest' N Pinon

12:43 pm - MotorBug was quick about this one which was a good thing for the number of caches we were heading for. Nice camo, thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:43 PM

Jolly Roger

12:29 pm - I had the right idea, but on the wrong side. Lots of broken glass here, so watch out. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 12:29 PM

Kooper's Kaper

12:14 pm - Good stuff in the cache! I was so distracted by the goodies that I left my car keys there. Doh! Had to walk back for them. Not a good way to start the day. Anyway, TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:14 PM

WWI & WWII

11:18 am - I was the inadvertant recipient of a spoiler on this one at WoW's event, but who am I to complain? I hope one of these houses is The Rat's and he's on good terms with his neighbors because I sure felt weird searching here. I'm glad I found it quickly. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 11:18 AM

Somewhere in Cupertino?

11:09 am - Glad to have this one off my list.

Don't Litter Here

7:36 pm - They were closing up the shop here when we arrived. I found the cache quickly despite the factually correct but completely useless description of the container.

We waited a few minutes for MotorBug to show up and whaddya know Marky showed up too to watch MotorBug struggle with the hide after a long day of caching. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 07:36 PM

Long Legs

6:17 pm - After all the wrong turns on the previous few caches, it was amazing that we found the right trail to this one. MotorBug made the find. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 06:17 PM

Simon's Coin Cache at Licorice Twist

5:53 pm - Nice spot at this high-altitude beach! It took a while to find but eventually we came up with it. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 05:53 PM

Ridgeline Cache

5:39 pm - Well, we did 3 uturns before we found the right path to this one. This is a cool area that you wouldn't expect up here. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 05:39 PM

Hide-a-way Hill

5:00 pm - We wandered up and around to this one from Grin n Bear it. Reception was tough, but Anne finally found it, of course without a GPSr. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 05:00 PM

Grin and Bear it

4:50 pm - We took the long way up and around here. We didn't even notice that there was a water tank up here until we got close. Found the cache and TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 04:50 PM

Spring Canyon

4:15 pm - Anne, without a GPS or a map, led us to this one and then found the cache. We probably could have taken an easier route, but it was fun to see if we could lose the elders. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 04:15 PM

Jane Doe

3:57 pm - Marky found the cache amongst a gaggle of people, some looking in way off places. There were tons of kids running around - where did all they come from? TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:57 PM

Deer John,

3:46 pm - We wandered up the trail, not sure which way to go when we came upon a large group of people. I guess we "found" it. We chatted while we waited in line to sign. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:46 PM

Duck,Duck,Goose!

3:14 pm - There were lots of muggles here when I approached, but they turned out to all be Geocachers! They had just put the cache back so I had to grab it again. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:14 PM

the cache of roaring camp

3:04 pm - I solved this one long ago, but finally had the opportunity to claim the cache at the event. It turns out I just had to follow the herd to the cache. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:04 PM

JCF

1:03 pm - On the way back from Trebuchet we hit this one. Very cool place for a cache! We all crammed in and signed the log. After a hike later in the day we came by for a return visit. TFTC!
Posted by jeff at 01:03 PM

The Trebuchet

1:02 pm - When people started gathering and walking determinedly with GPSrs, I sensed something was up. I quickly joined them and walked over to this one. My contribution to the group was finding the physical cache. Looked around inside, passed around the logbook, and TNLN. Thanks for the unique puzzle. I enjoyed watching the real thing as well!
Posted by jeff at 01:02 PM

Classy Cache

11:51 am - Huge cache! There was little to no reception here, but after checking a few spots I found it. We were already late for the picnic, so I didn't spend much time looking through the stuff. I actually thought it was empty at first, but the all the stuff was just way at the bottom. TNLNSL. Thanks!

First to solve (as far as I know). It's quick one once you get the idea.

June 19, 2005

Coyote Ridge

5:45 pm - Let it be known that on this nineteeth of june in the year 2005, Portola Redwoods State Park will now be known as Bytemobile Redwoods State Park. That's a lot of cachers and we enjoyed them all. Thanks for placing them!

It was getting late to be hiking now, so we powered up the trail to this one, our last of the day. It felt good after mostly hiking downhill all day. Found the cache OK and TNLNSL.

By the way, $7 for an ammo box? You should talk to WoW and get some for $4 or less!

Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 05:45 PM

Banana Slug Flat

5:31 pm - I had pretty much used up all my marriage points for the day, so I was surprised that Anne agreed to find this one as we walked right by the car. I tried to make it quick. Found the cache and a few banana slugs as well. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 05:31 PM

Old Tree

5:08 pm - It was starting to get late and we had a few caches left in the park, so we hurried to this one. It took a bit of searching barely any satellite reception, but we were successful. I was tempted by the CITO shirt, but we didn't have anything good to trade. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 05:08 PM

Tiptoe Log

4:45 pm - We came here from Tiptoe Falls. After looking for a dry place to cross the stream, we decided to just take our shoes off and walk through.

This cache gives new meaning to "signing the log"! We listened to Anne's stomach grumbling as we signed the log and headed on. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 04:45 PM

Tiptoe Falls

4:24 pm - This one got tricky. I found it quickly enough, but while I was signing the log, a group led by a ranger arrived and stopped 10 feet away. I carefully and quietly finished up, trying very hard not clank the ammo box. I think we were successful.

The falls weren't as impressive as some others we've seen but it was a nice spot for a break. TNLNSL. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 04:24 PM

Old Haul Junction

3:59 pm - We came all the way down the hill from Skyline into the park and this was our first cache back down where our car was.

I got a reading on my GPSr that put me near another trail junction, but Anne found saw the right spot further up. TNLNSL. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 03:59 PM

Below The Summit

3:33 pm - This was a tough micro in all these big trees. I barely got reception near the site. We searched up and down the trail before Anne finally found it. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:33 PM

The Summit

3:07 pm - Coverage was limited here too, so we spent some time checking all the possibles. Finally found it with some prodding.

I couldn't resist the golden alien, so I left a lanyard pen and a baseball pin. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 03:07 PM

Slate Creek Trail Camp

2:30 pm - It's been a long time since we had seen a restoom so we made a quick stop after we made a quick stop. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 02:30 PM

Page Mill Site

2:21 pm - That's some neat history. Now I know what Page Mill Road is all about.

There's no GPS needed or available for this cache. TNLNSL. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 02:21 PM

Slate Creek Split

1:58 pm - There's another split near here - the trail coming down from Redwoods: The next generation. We blissfully headed down the old road past the gate until I looked at the map on my GPSr and became suspicious that our route was matching the park map. We decided to backtrack up and we found the trail we missed just before the gate.

Getting up to the cache took some extra effort. I took the winini FTF token and left a rubber yellow guy. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 01:58 PM

Redwoods: The Next Generation

12:53 pm - The hint really helped on this one after I wandered through the low brush for a while. We had a quick stop and then continued down the hill. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:53 PM

Ward Road Border Crossing

12:29 pm - You must be a strong man, bytemobile, to carry all these ammo boxes down here. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:29 PM

Pigs Beware!

12:15 pm - This one took a bit longer because I was expecting an ammo box to match the rest. It was well-covered. No bigs today, but they sure have torn up the place. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:15 PM

Ward Road Outpost

12:06 pm - And down we go. This was a quick one. I might have forgotten my hiking stick if Anne hadn't yelled "Stick!" at me as I left the cache site. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:06 PM

Hickory Oaks Panorama

11:50 am - This was the first of our one-way trip down Long Ridge to Portola Redwoods. After the car shuffling, we were happy to be on the trail.

This cache made me thankful I had brought along my hiking stick. TNLNSL. Thanks!

11:25 am - I got lucky and found this one quickly. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 11:25 AM

Airborne

11:18 am - Trashy cachy. Thankfully I found it quickly.
Posted by jeff at 11:18 AM

Billys Box

11:09 am - We went for some pancakes at Stacks' and the wait was 40 minutes - the perfect amount of time to grab the 3 caches nearby.

This one did take a while to find, but I got it and TNLNSL. Thanks.

Somewhere in Cupertino?

6:50 pm - Adding my name to the DNF hall of fame. Searched for about an hour with MotorBug, wstefanc, mcpuke, TeamJiffy, and DavidT21. We didn't find a thing. I really hope this is a truly ingenious cache that cachers with tens of thousands of combined finds haven't seen before.
Posted by jeff at 06:50 PM

Trinity

5:30 pm - Yup, the cache is back. I'm not sure it will last there though with kids hanging around. Thanks.

Prickly Garden

7:40 pm - I was in the area for work, so I thought I would stop by for a cache on the way home. I think there used to be another cache by here ones, or at least the area looked familiar to me.

While I was waiting for some muggles to pass, three people on bikes rode up. They asked me if I was looking for the geocache and gave me a little hint. I found it soon after. Nice hide. Thanks!

Gateway & Portal

4:46 pm - MotorBug helped me with this one and then we called it a day. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 04:46 PM

It's in the Genes

4:35 pm - I worked on this one a while ago and got stuck. I was going to ask for a hint, but came upon a solution with another method.

There were lots of private property signs near the cache though, so it felt weird to be there. TNLNSL. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 04:35 PM

Under the Walk

4:10 pm - After our weird experience running into St. Brendan and browneyedsusan at a cache nearby which we didn't know existed, this was much more straightforward. I found it quickly, but noticed a cop roaming the neighborhood. He caught up to us as we reached my car and asked if it was mine. Apparently some neighbors called the cops because I parked in the bike lane. But according to the cop, "it's not a big deal". Thanks for the cache.
Posted by jeff at 04:10 PM

Steinberger Slough

3:31 pm - Last time I was here there were muggles too close by. I was in the area again and made the quick grab with MotorBug. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:31 PM

One Equals Two

3:19 pm - I figured this one out a while ago and came up with a solution that put me in an appropriate spot.

When we got there however, the coordiantes put us in a spot where no cache could be. I sat down to look at the description again and see if I could generate some better coordinates there. After thinking for a bit, I looked up to tell MotorBug the bad news that I think we had the wrong coordiantes and I can't figure out any better ones. He already had the cache in hand. What a team! Thanks for the cache.

Posted by jeff at 03:19 PM

My First Micro

2:36 pm - I looked at this one when it came out and didn't have much luck. Last night I thought I would give it another try and came up with some code that did the dirty work and revealed the coordinates. This is yet another technology that I'm happy to be young enough not to have to know, but it's educational nonetheless. The cache was an easy find.

Afterwards MotorBug and I decided to stop at REI to pick up a tick kit and a waistpack. I also lost my GPSr beltclip, so we went over to the guy working the counter there to ask if they had any. He said no, but proceeded to give us some wisdom: "Your GPS is NOT a rock", he says to MotorBug. And then he dug around for something he said would help. He grabbed MotorBug's GPSr and proceeded to wrap it in bright red tape so we wouldn't lose it. Uh, OK. MotorBug was too polite to bust out laughing there, but we had a good chuckle later.

It was also cool to see the promos for WoW's geocaching classes at REI too!

Thanks for the cache.

Clueless Toothfairy

2:26 pm - When MotorBug and I decided to head up the peninsula on Sunday, I thought I might as well solve some local puzzles so I went to work on this one. It didn't take long and now I know what my dentist has been talking about all these years. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 02:26 PM

There Is A Safeway Of Doing Things

1:52 pm - MotorBug and I pulled up to this one, missing vaccine only by 12 minutes. Thanks for the quickie.
Posted by jeff at 01:52 PM

Top of the Hill

1:46 pm - MotorBug watched with delight while I tried to find this one. The camo is breaking up a bit, so it didn't take me long. Nice job!
Posted by jeff at 01:46 PM

Going to the Dogs

1:37 pm - This one is a little too close to those people's backyard. They were on the side of the house and weren't turned to me, but I still feld weird.
Posted by jeff at 01:37 PM

What A View For A Bug Hotel

1:01 pm - We started to walk to this one from Crystal Springs Damn, but when I looked up the parking coordinates, we decided to walk back down and drive up to the parking spot.

I didn't want a long painful climb up the hill, so I ran up, much to the chagrin of MotorBug. TNLNSL. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 01:01 PM

Beacon, Light My Way

It would be a good idea to disable the cache until the coordinates are corrected.
Posted by jeff at 01:00 PM

Creekside

I almost missed the creek here! Had to get a little dirty, but I came up with the cache quickly. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 01:00 PM

Crystal Springs Dam

12:41 pm - There was a lot going on here. First there wasn't much room to park, so I had to wait for someone else to leave first. Then someone asked us if we were doing that sport where you find stuff in the woods. MotorBug admitted to it and explained it to them while another couple on bikes approached me to take their picture.

Once MotorBug was done talking and figured out how to write a 0 and not a 6 on his Palm, we headed off to the cache. We found it quickly. This is a nice area that I've always wanted to explore. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 12:41 PM

This Old Tree

12:19 pm - MotorBug and I spent a long time looking for this one. I finally found it by backing up into the parking lot, getting a strong signal and projecting in. It was in a spot I had looked a few times before but not thoroughly enough. Good hide. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:19 PM

Crystal Springs

11:48 am - Quick one. It sure was getting warm out here today. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 11:48 AM

Hill View

11:41 am - This was an easy find once we noticed that Rocks Don't Fall That Way. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 11:41 AM

Catamaran

11:12 am - MotorBug gave me a history of development of this area as we walked over. Geez, does this guy ever shut up?

The cache was very visible, so it was a quick find at a nice spot. Thanks.

Don't Feed the Ducks

11:11 am - It was a peaceful morning here. MotorBug had already done this one so he relaxed while I found it in the first place I looked. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 11:11 AM

Ryder Park Trail

10:46 am - So this is what parks of the future will look like, huh? Very cool bridge! MotorBug made the find here. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 10:46 AM

Bay Tree Park

10:33 am - MotorBug came over the top and I went underneath. I thought I could grab it before he did, be he got his fingers on it first. That's a big tree! Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 10:33 AM

Cherry, Cherry pie. ohooo oohh oohhhh

10:26 am - No luck today. Then again, I have a cache in a similar location and I've DNF'd it myself a couple times. Lots of people around, so it was tough to get down and dirty with this one.
Posted by jeff at 10:26 AM

West Hillsdale Park

10:14 am - Motorbug came by for return trip to allow me to find this one. It was quick. Thanks!

10:09 am - No, today were here just for the cache. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 10:09 AM

Annie's Birthday Present

10:00 am - There was a birthday party being set up, but no one around. I found the cache in the one spot that MotorBug didn't check. It was hard to open! How do these babies get anything to eat? :-) Thanks.

4:30 pm - Well, there was an SBC guy here AGAIN, but he was sitting in his truck so I was able to grab the cache without him seeing me. Thanks.

Montclaire Walkway

4:11 pm - Wow, this was the fastest I've ever spotted one of these. It matches nicely. Thanks.

Deer Hollow Farm

3:32 pm - This was cache #12 of my 13 mile, 12-cache return tour of Rancho San Antonio. Coming out my headphones: Over the Rainbow - Fiona Apple.

There were quite a few people walking by, so I took off my pack and waited for a while, searching inbetween passings. I caught it from one angle and then had to go to a different spot to grab it.

It was here that I plucked off 4 different ticks, one that was fully engorged. I'm not sure if they were from here or from up on the trail somewhere, but they sure were plentiful today. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 03:32 PM

Virus Alpha Six

3:02 pm - This was cache #11 of my 13 mile, 12-cache return tour of Rancho San Antonio. Coming out my headphones: Better Than Nothing - Jennifer Trynin.

My zigzaggy route through this park seemed pretty good until I realized I had to go up this steep trail to grab this one and then back down again. I was getting near the end and I was tired.

Thanks!

Rock My World

2:11 pm - This was cache #10 of my 13 mile, 12-cache return tour of Rancho San Antonio. Coming out my headphones: Layla - Eric Clapton.

As I shoved my hand into all kinds of crevaces, I thought to myself that I really should be more careful during a rattlesnake season. I found the cache without incident and TNLNSL. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 02:11 PM

Duveneck Windmill Site

1:52 pm - This was cache #9 of my 13 mile, 12-cache return tour of Rancho San Antonio. Coming out my headphones: Freebird - Lynyrd Skynyrd (the rockin' guitar part at the end).

I was happy to find the cache and mark my turnaround part. I had been going uphill all day and I was looking forward to some nice downhill slopes. TNLNSL. Thanks.

Rancho San Antonio Secret View

1:36 pm - This was cache #8 of my 13 mile, 12-cache return tour of Rancho San Antonio. Coming out my headphones: Hawkmoon 269 - U2.

I was pretty beat by the time I got here, but it was a lot easier to get to than Above a Challenge from the way I came.

The cache was still pretty full and I'm impressed that you carried that heavy box all the way up here. TNLNSL. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 01:36 PM

Above a Challenge

1:14 pm - This was cache #7 of my 13 mile, 12-cache return tour of Rancho San Antonio. Coming out my headphones: Politik - Coldplay.

Since I had already done the Terrain Challenge here, I assumed the easiest way to this one would to just go right up past it. Not really.

At various points there was PO covering the trail. I fashioned a machete out of a stick and beat it down a bit before I gingerly passed by. Other sections were completely overgrown with brush and passing through there was painful.

Eventually the trail opened up to a clearing near the cache and I found it without difficulty. There were lots of annoying flies around today, so I didn't stay long though. TNLNSL. Thanks for the views.

Kenny's Tootsies Are Dry!

12:44 pm - This was cache #6 of my 13 mile, 12-cache return tour of Rancho San Antonio. Coming out my headphones: In the Drink - Barenaked Ladies.

There wasn't much water in the creek today, so that wasn't really a problem. There was quite a bit of poison oak though and I tried a few different approaches before I found my way to the cache. TNLNSL. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 12:44 PM

Top Of The Hill

11:56 am - This was cache #5 of my 13 mile, 12-cache return tour of Rancho San Antonio. Coming out my headphones: Rosealia - Better Than Ezra.

It was really time for a break and some water here. I found the cache quickly and then rested underneath some shade for a few minutes. It was pretty warm out today. TNLNSL. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 11:56 AM

TC/Middle of Rancho

11:37 am - This was cache #4 of my 13 mile, 12-cache return tour of Rancho San Antonio. Coming out my headphones: Insensitive - Jann Arden.

This one was somewhat painful to get to in shorts, but I made it. The worst part was the last 5 feet where I had to cross over some dead thing that a bunch of wasps were feasting on. Apparently they were too distracted by their meal to attack me. TNLNSL. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 11:37 AM

Wildcat Canyon Owls Nest

10:59 am - This was cache #3 of my 13 mile, 12-cache return tour of Rancho San Antonio. Coming out my headphones: Second Wind - Billy Joel.

I was still moving along pretty quickly at this point but it was nice to take a break. It took some time to find the cache, but I knew it when I saw it.

When I finished signing the log I found my first tick of the day. I flicked him off. I briefly thought about trying to bushwhack up to the trail to get to Middle of Rancho, but decided the trail would probably be easier. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 10:59 AM

Wildcat Canyon Cathedral

10:44 am - This was cache #2 of my 13 mile, 12-cache return tour of Rancho San Antonio. Coming out my headphones: Return to Innocence - Enigma.

The coordinates did have me all over the place, but I just wandered over to where a cache would best fit and there it was. TNLNSL. Thanks.

10:09 am - This was cache #1 of my 13 mile, 12-cache return tour of Rancho San Antonio. Coming out my headphones: Here With Me - Dido.

I was just getting warmed up on my hike and I was feeling good. The cache was a quick find. TNLNSL. Thanks.

$100,000 Reward

9:08 pm - I thought it would be really cool to put a cache at this place, but didn't make the connection with the title until later.

When I arrived, there were two locals hanging around, one with a truck on one side of the wall and the other with a car in the lot. I'm not sure what they were actually doing, but they weren't going anywhere soon. I waited and waited, watched one of the guys relieve himself in the corner, and finally decided to leave. At least I got some dinner on the way out.

8:45 pm - Interesting backstory here. There was a baseball game going on, so street parking was scarce and I didn't want to pay for parking, so I tried to go in the back entrance. After a long walk through the field towards the object, I couldn't find a safe way across the creek, so I went back to my car.

Ignoring my autorouter, I went the long way back around and entered in the standard way. There was no one at the gate, so I just went right in. It looked like they were about to close up and lock the gates though so I had to be quick.

There was only one problem - I couldn't find the object. I knew it was around here somewhere, I just spot it from where I was. I went from one end to the other while it got dark, finding nothing. Evading the rangers, I took a turn and spotted it through the trees. The hint made finding the cache not too hard.

I quickly made my way back to the car, hoping that they hadn't closed the gates and locked me in. Nope. Whew. Thanks for the interesting cache.

Backesto

8 pm - Quick one here tonight. I only wished I parked closer! Thanks.

looky-looky

7:40 pm - Quick find on this one. I wasn't sure where I was until I turned the corner and realized I had been here a bunch of times. Thanks.

Impasse

12:19 pm - This one looked deceptively simple so I just had to spend some time on it. After a few false starts, I found a way to solve it without doing it manually or writing some code. Nicely done.

When I saw where it was, I decided it would be fun to get some coworkers together for a lunchtime walk. Everyone showed up on time and we had a nice walk out. While I found the cache, I think TeamSimo actually retreived it. That's a very odd place for that thing.

It was fun to get folks together with varying levels of obsession. Thanks!

JET SET

9:54 pm - I dropped my wife off at the airport and then headed off to this one on the way home. A couple of planes landed while I was signing the log and it was very cool at night. Thanks.

101 TFTs - Two Pair

For One Pair, I found the cache first then the tokens. Now I have the tokens for Two Pair, but not the cache. I'll try to pick that up soon with My Jazz 49, 31 and Echo 213, 196.

BOP

8:37 am - When I saw this description, I was thinking it was in an entirely different place with a very different container. But this one was still satisfying. A few months from now, this cache will look out of place, but for now it's awesome. Thanks.

Bottom's Up

8:29 am - SBC guy was working 10 feet away from the cache. I waited a bit but he looked like he would be a while, so I went over to do BOP. I returned after that and he was still there, so I decided to come back some other time.

Trinity

9:07 am - People were asking me if I had solved this puzzle yet before I had even seen it. I took a look and found a tool to solve it quickly.

I finally got around to searching for the cache this morning, but came up empty even with two lifelines both confirming where I was looking. I think it's missing.

A Red Bridge Near A Blue Pheasant

8:34 am - Rule #9 of Geocaching in the Bay Area: A bad hint is worse than no hint at all.

I DNF'd this one twice. The first time I just couldn't find it. The second time I got a hint, but I completely misunderstood it, so I deliberately searched where the cache was not.

Finally on the third try I found it in under a minute. I sure saw that last time, but I didn't think it could be a cache. Nicely done. Thanks.

Friday Night, Behind the Shed

8:27 am - I needed a hint on the theme on this one because while I had heard of it, I didn't know enough to pick it up out of the text. It was fairly easy from there.

I found a perfect spot for the cache, but it wasn't there. I searched a bunch of other spots until I checked the first one again and found that it had fallen down. I signed the log and put it back. Hopefully it will stay put. Thanks.

On The Fast Track

5:35 pm - This was our last cache on the way down Mt. Tam. Finding the cache was dirty work, but eventually I found it in a place I didn't expect. Thanks.

Dipsea Steps

5:25 pm - We were coming down the mountain after the mountain play and this cache was right along the way. We counted the steps from the top and managed to do it accurately to spot the trail. Quick find. We were glad to be doing these only on the way down, but it was still kinda painful. TNLNSL. Thanks.

mt tam amphitheater cache

12:53 pm - I told my wife I was going to run to the bathroom before the start of Oklahoma. I found this cache instead.

When I got close, I found another group of cachers. The signals were hard to get here, but eventually they cooperated and I found it with only a few minutes to spare before curtain time. Somehow the logbook has gone missing so I signed a moldy cache printout inside. TNLNSL.

On the hike back down after the play, we walked right by here, but it would have been tough with all the people streaming down the mountain. Thanks.

Little Cache of Horrors II

8:06 pm - We were chatting and chatting when I thought it would be fun to find a cache. Find a cache? What's that? I got WeBeDnD, MotorBug, budd-rdc and British Invasion excited, so they all came along.

Haven't seen that container before, but there's no question that it's the cache. Thanks!

Nowhere Near the Bloody Pond

5:38 pm - Thanks for narrowing it down a bit. If I had remembered everything that was here when I did the previous cache this one would have been even easier. Thanks!

Mrs Los Gatos

5:20 pm - The was a woman in the park writing a manifesto or something; she seemed content to ignore us while we searched. I found it after a few minutes. TNLNSL. Thanks.

Sunnyvale Gold Rush

11:59 am - We were out running some errands so we stopped for this one on the way from Home Depot to the grocery store.

I didn't see it right away, so I started trying to download the hint. Before I got that to work, I found it. Thanks.

The Black Hole

9:19 am - Co-FTF with fizzymagic. I decided to take a look at this one last night and the first two stages didn't take too long, but I got stuck at the third. I figured fizzy had already solved it since this one was right up his alley, so I asked him for a hint.

Turns out he hadn't looked at it yet and HE needed a hint to get past the first stage. The stages I thought were hardest he did easily and vice versa so it worked out well. I learned some interesting stuff and as usual more than I really needed to know.

Fizzy was heading to the airport this morning, so I agreed to meet him and hope the FTF was still unclaimed.

He arrived on time and we took the short walk to the cache, spotting an object that fit the theme perfectly. I didn't see the cache right away, but I did see a bunch of hornet nests forming, most which had at least a hornet on them. This will probably be a problem. This cache is also very close to another puzzle cache, but I guess it's old enough that the approvers didn't keep track.

Fizzy spotted the cache and pulled it out without disturbing any of the bugs. TNLNSL but I enjoyed the puzzle very much. Thanks!

Don't Go There To Get There

8:55 am - Lots of people walking by today so the retreival and replacement took some waiting. Thanks for another quick one.

Hungering For A Cache

8:50 am - I knew where it was and it only took a minute to get to it. I dropped the log though so I had to make my way there twice. TFTC!

8:41 am - Quick find and not many people around at this time in the a.m. Thanks.

Cars and Carrots

8:25 am - My rent check got lost in the mail it seems, so I had to run over to drop off another. This was a good excuse to pick up a few caches in the area.

People kept crossing over from the cars to the carrots and back, so it took me awhile to grab and replace the cache. Thanks.
