Kayak Cache

10 months since this one was last found and the owner has not checked it for at least 4 months since the last DNF.

LAH Pathways: Where's Fran?

8:47 pm - My autorouter was sending me on some crazy trip to get to the posted coords for this one, so I ignored it and tried another way. I got lucky and found the trailhead. There was someone occupying the parking spot, so I parked a bit away and walked in. Thanks to you AND Fran!

Somewhere in Los Altos Hills

6:10 pm - Thank you, this was like therapy for me. Now let us never discuss of this again.
Posted by jeff at 06:10 PM

LAH Pathways: Deer Creek

5:47 pm - Alright, finally an abode in LAH that I can afford! How much is it? A bit of a fix-er-upper, isn't it? Built-in cache too - I'll take it!
Posted by jeff at 05:47 PM

Somewhere in Los Altos

5:18 pm - I was in the neighborhood, so I thought I would give this one another try. I searched for a while and made another failed lifeline attempt.

While carefully studying a redwood, I noticed that something on the ground that was likely dropped by a cacher. That led me to look in another area more carefully and I found it. Phew. I see the containers are changing.

Posted by jeff at 05:18 PM

No Strings Attached

5:07 pm - I was digging my way around here when I barely noticed this little bugger. I'm not sure why this spot is special, but I found it.
Posted by jeff at 05:07 PM

Killarny Farms Oak

4:45 pm - I'm not used to seeing CKayaks caches all alone and not up some crazy hill.

The toughest part of this one was to look casual while I waited for traffic to pass so I could replace the thing. Took a clear Echo token. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 04:45 PM

101 TFTs - Three of a kind

4:30 pm - Once again I found the cache, but I don't yet have the three. I've got an extra B&W Jazz, clear Echo and yellow Echo. Anybody want to trade for a black Echo?
Posted by jeff at 04:30 PM

Don't Fence Me Out

4:22 pm - Looks like I had a near-collision with Marky, 20 minutes later. Oh well. Thanks for the cache.
Posted by jeff at 04:22 PM

Jetty

3:35 pm - I have a strange and creepy story to tell with this cache.

I parked nearby and wandered up to the cache. Just as I was about to start searching, this real estate agent or something pulls up and drops a sign 30 feet away for a house for sale. Then he just kinda hangs out in his car for a while. I wait. He gets in his car, starts driving, but then just parks his car on the other side of the street. I wait. Then he comes out and walks very close to me, pretends to look out at the water and checks me out as he walks back to his car. By now I'm lounging on the bench, thinking I'm in for a long wait. He goes back to his car, then comes back out and sits on another bench. At this point I lose patience and decided to come back later. I head for my car and drive out towards my next closest cache, Tower of Power.

As I'm heading out on Marine Parkway, I notice the guy's right behind me and he's talking his cell phone. I change lanes, he changes lanes. I'm getting annoyed and creeped out, thinking about if I should call the cops. Instead I hope that he is just happening to go the same way as me.

As I pull into the parking lot for Tower of Power, he's still behind me and parks right next to me. I start to walk away towards the cache, but then turn around.

"Can I help you??"
"When did you get your car?"
"Why?"
"I sold a car like that once to a guy."
"Well, that's not my car, I bought mine new, 6 years ago."
"Is it a ch???"
"What?"
"Is it a ch???"
(I just say no.)
"Well I sold a car like that to a guy and he cheated me. I'm not saying it was your car."
"Sorry, I bought mine new."

Then I just walked away towards the cache, but past it since I didn't want him to see where I was going. I peeked back and saw him move his car within the lot, and then just sit there. Finally he left. I came back for the cache, then did a few more, but I wanted to get this cache so I drove back over. I had decided that if I saw him again I would immediately turn around and leave. Thankfully he wasn't there and I found the cache quickly and got out of there.

What I don't get is that I got to the coordinates first and I don't think he saw me drive in, so why did he get suspicious of me and then ask about my car? I dunno, but remimd me never to buy real estate in Foster City. Thanks.

Beacon, Light My Way

3:22 pm - Well, I got the right beacon this time. I still felt pretty weird searching here and I was hoping I'd find it quickly. Finally did and headed off. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:22 PM

Gazebo

3:16 pm - That was a quick one in a nice spot. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:16 PM

Tower Of Power

3:13 pm - Tower Of Poop may be a more appropriate name for this cache. Nasty! Found it quickly and got out of there quickly to avoid getting bombed. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:13 PM

Ashen Cache

2:34 pm - Apparently I can solve Rogue Ramblers' puzzles, but not find the caches.

The puzzle was interesting and took some time for me to get, but eventually it all made sense.

Today, with my verified coordinates, I searched for 20 minutes or so, got pretty grubby and ran out of ideas. Didn't see anything that really made sense with the hint either. Egads.

Posted by jeff at 02:34 PM

Safe Diligence

2:10 pm - Last time there was way too many people here to search, so I left. I timed my visit much later today and there was no one outside an hour before closing time. I thought I knew where the cache was last time, but it wasn't there. I did more wandering and digging and finally came up with it. Phew! I'll have to come here for breakfast sometime. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 02:10 PM

Pizza Power

1:55 pm - Mmmm, that pizza smelled good. I walked over to stage one and found the coordinates. Stage 2 turned out to be right near where I parked. Looked around for a bit and found it a little bit off my coordinates, but the title helped. TNLNSL. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 01:55 PM

The Fiber Channel

1:34 pm - This one was just a matter of tracking down the right info and writing some code. Once I got it all right, the numbers popped right out.

I had less luck with the cache though. I spent a half-hour searching and came up with nothing. No hints? Hmpph.

Posted by jeff at 01:34 PM

Ask Your Kids

1:08 pm - I solved the easy puzzle a few weeks back.

I parked and found the cache and was signing when I felt someone watching me. I turned around and there was a guy sitting in a minivan staring at me. I'm guessing he had been watching me the whole time. The jig was up I guessed, so I just put it back with my body blocking his direct view. He watched me walk away. I didn't stick around to see what he did after that. Thanks for the cache.

Posted by jeff at 01:08 PM

Cherry, Cherry pie. ohooo oohh oohhhh

12:48 pm - I don't know what my problem was last time - this one was easy as pie today! Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:48 PM

Circle of Technology

12:29 pm - Somehow I expected the cache to be in the circle, but my GPSr led me to a different spot and I found it easily. I took a B&W Jazz for trading. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 12:29 PM

Walk on by

12:00 pm - I wasn't thinking I was going to do this one, but you sold me when you said I could relog Sugarloaf. It was a high price to pay for sure though.

I was thankful that I almost did walk on by this spot while on my way up. That was definitely enough exercise for the day. TNLNSL. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 12:00 PM

Sugarloaf

11:47 am - I don't really remember the last time I was here. Either it's because I've found 1500 caches or so since then or my mind has blocked out the painful memories of this hill. I think I came in a different way last time. The hill was steep but short and I found the cache OK with the coordinates for Walk on By. Thanks for the views!
Posted by jeff at 11:47 AM

Laurelwood Canyon

11:33 am - I was heading for Sugarloaf, and I happened to pick just the righ trailhead for this one. Just as I arrived at the cache, a guy with two dogs came down the hill and stopped there to put them back on leashes while I patiently sipped water. Nice big cache! TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 11:33 AM

Igor

11:04 am - I wandered into to this one from Grace's 9th birthday. This was the one I had originally targeted, but I ended up doing this one first. It's surprising to find a "new" park in this area that I've been to many times before.

I managed to find the right trail over and found the cache easily. Took nothing, left a lot of sweat. I took the Elevator Trail down and I was thankful that was the direction I was going on it. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 11:04 AM

Grace's 9th Birthday

10:44 am - This was a cool trail. I was up on the other side at first, but found a way down and up to this trail. I had no problem finding the cache, though it's too bad it's less than 500 ft from the rambler; it would make for a perfect "Rogue Rambler" cache! TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 10:44 AM

Hastings Tot Lot

10:25 am - Not one of my smoothest caching experiences. I was heading to Igor and saw this one was less than 300 ft from parking. I started to go straight to it and was in 100 feet or so when it started to get really steep and brushy. Exhausted already, I carefully made my way down, got some water from the car and hiked in.

Hey, there's a nice trail here! I walked up and found the cache easily. I guess you have to come from the top to see the tot lot, which was part of my confusion. TNLNSL. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 10:25 AM

Little Bridge

9:34 am - It's not often that you get to walk this close to a major highway. Yes, a nice little walk along the highway to start my day. It took me a while to find the cache but finally did. Thanks.

Somewhere in Los Altos

5:20 pm - I spent 20 minutes or so looking for this one and failed to connect to a lifeline. My Dad IMed me and reminded me that the baseball game was on. That sounded like a lot more fun and it was.
Posted by jeff at 05:20 PM

Tony Look

MotorBug and I decided to take a short hike after DNFing Anchor. At least this looked a lot shorter from the dam. Up and up we went until we arrived here. It was a guaranteed find since MotorBug had already found this one. TNLNSL. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 01:00 PM

Pfeiffer Trout Farm

Neat history. MotorBug and I huffed our way from the dam and only found the cache after some deliberate searching. I'm not sure the hint is true, especially for someone like me. We considered continuing on and taking the road back, but decided the hill was still faster. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 01:00 PM

Great Wall of Sanborn

There was some discussion of this cache on the way back, but the consensus was that it was missing. ProTech apparently didn't hear that and went after the cache, finding it easily. He called up to us and we went back down and up again to do the paperwork. TNLNSL. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 01:00 PM

Anchor

I was by here last weekend and noticed the kayak rentals so MotorBug made plans to head over and grab this one. Well, we rented a double and headed over. It was a nice day and the water was refreshing. It didn't take long to make it to the coordinates. Once there, we didn't have any luck. We were within feet of the coordinates and the hints seemed to make sense, but there was no sign of the cache. Well, that was a bummer. Had a nice kayak paddle though.
Posted by jeff at 01:00 PM

LOOKY -LOO ""---> ""--->

I came back today with MotorBug for backup. He had found it before it moved, so he wasn't able to find it either. I finally checked one spot noticed it. The hint is useless and should be changed or removed. Thanks.

ANX: The Angle of Eternity

Whoah that was cool. I was both a help and hinderance to this quest. First I helped by showing up late and then finding the first stage but noticing something that the others didn't. Stage 2 was genius. On stage 3 I miscounted and combined with Nagzul's miscount we had wrong coordinates but a working checksum. Uggh. We came back after a trip up the hill and took a remedial lesson in counting.

Our new coordinates made a lot more sense. We quickly caught up the first group. We found the tools easily, but had a lot of trouble figuring out what to do with them. I endangered myself by following a false geotrail, but ProTech came up to rescue me.

Since the other group was stuck trying to find the cache, they took some pity on us and helped us a bit. I should have realized that we hadn't used the UV light yet.

After aligning the planets, I pretty much wandered around aimlessly until MotorBug found it. I was thankful because I'm fighting off a cold and I was exhausted. TNLNSL. Thanks for the really creative cache!

Twisted Strands

7:50 pm - I tend to leave these caches that are really close to home for after work or when I have an errand to run. Tonight my wife's library books were overdue, so I volunteered to return them. She was suspicious until I told her there was a cache nearby. Quick find. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 07:50 PM

Mr. Rich

6:22 pm - I usually check my math on multis but it was getting late and I was feeling tired so I almost didn't bother. Good thing I did as I had two mistakes! I made the short walk over and found the cache. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 06:22 PM

Main Street Vineyard

6:09 pm - Neat, I sure wouldn't have noticed these. I parked in the wrong lot, but that's life. Quick find. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 06:09 PM

Milkshake Mound

5:59 pm - From the shortened name in my GPSr, I thought this one was called Milkshake Mountain. Some mountain! Well I reached the summit and found the cache OK. TNLNSL. Thanks for the hike!
Posted by jeff at 05:59 PM

Cambrian Hideout

5:29 pm - This was simple enough. Thanks for the multi.
Posted by jeff at 05:29 PM

More Geobeads: Leftovers

5:05 pm - I found this one quickly. In the middle of signing the log, a whole bunch of people rode by, me with the camo and container and nowhere to hide. Oh well. Nicely done, thanks!
Posted by jeff at 05:05 PM

Nighttime Sky

4:57 pm - Sometimes I think geocaching is about visiting the same places over and over again. Yup, I've done a cache here before. Nice view. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 04:57 PM

800

4:38 pm - Let me skip 800 and congratulate you on 1000+!

I've been staring at this cache for a long time and today I decided it was time. I parked outside the park and walked about a mile roundtrip. Easy find once I got there, TNLNSL. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 04:38 PM

King of the Hill

4:12 pm - It's good to be king, but u-turns are no fun up here. I had to do a few of them and every time I thought I was going to get creamed by someone barrelling down the hill. Once I finally got myself in the right place I found the cache easily. Took a golf ball and left one of Kablooey's smashed pennies.
Posted by jeff at 04:12 PM

can-hank-erous

3:54 pm - Nice spot, not so nice smell! Quick find. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:54 PM

Corvus Corax

3:30 pm - Well, I saw some on the way over here. I wasn't sure if that was a good omen or not. I tried one approach and couldn't find away in. The second approach made a lot more sense. The camo was quite tough and only with some help and persistence did I find it. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:30 PM

Raoul Heywood

3:08 pm - This was a very tough puzzles. There were a few references I didn't get and there's a few more I still don't get, like the title.

I got some reasonable coordinates with a lot of help. I came by to search but didn't find anything and felt suspicous searching here. I went for another cache and in the meantime my lifeline called back. I returned and found it relatively quickly. It was face up; I probably moved it in my previous search. Oh well. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 03:08 PM

Alien Escape Pod

2:51 pm - Quick find. God those last two logs are funny! Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 02:51 PM

New Wrinkle

2:43 pm - I tried one approach and failed so I drove around to find another. Talk about a gated community! I drove right by the entrance at first and didn't notice it was open. After that I walked right up to the cache. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 02:43 PM

Where's Muriel?

2:26 pm - It took me 3 tries to find Muriel. She's very well hidden! I'll make a note of this problem for wherever I'm buried. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 02:26 PM

Wicked Cousins

1:55 pm - I have no idea what's going on with this puzzle. I mapped out all the relationships in a geneology program and got some numbers, but they were all wrong except for one.

Luckily some friends are better at this than me and they helped me finish it up.

The grapes on the way to the cache sure were tempting. I decided that any that were sticking out of the fence were fair game. I had one and it was yummy.

I found the cache OK and TNLNSL. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 01:55 PM

Fremont Older OSP's Front Door

1:45 pm - I've hiked from here a few times before so today I was just here for the cache. Quick find, thanks.
Posted by jeff at 01:45 PM

Parker Ranch Trail (Nazgul Secret Trailhead #4)

1:38 pm - I was coming from Stevens Creek and my GPSr was telling me to go out to De Anza and back. It looked like you could get there via twisty roads though, so I ignored my GPSr, the signs and better judgement. I did come upon two cul-de-sacs connected with a short road that said private, but it worked just find.

I parked nearby the cache and started my search. Nope, I wouldn't have found this trailhead on my own. It took a few minutes to find the cache too. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 01:38 PM

Don't Drink and Ride

1:23 pm - Quick stop here today. I found it quickly and sat down to remove all the burrs I acquired at LOOKY LOO. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 01:23 PM

LOOKY -LOO ""---> ""--->

1:16 pm - Coordinates all over the place, poison oak, stickers, flies, signs that say danger and the feeling that I shouldn't be there didn't make this a pleasant experience. I gave up after checking all the obvious places and spending 20 minutes here.
Posted by jeff at 01:16 PM

Hillside Destruction

12:57 pm - I'm usually no good at these kinds of hides, but I walked right up to this one. I was thinking about hiking over to Tony Look on the other side of the dam, but decided to do a mostly driving caching day instead. TNLNSL. Thanks.

Riverfalls

7:32 pm - I'm sure that when this was a dirt lot it was a lot easier to find a parking spot around here - geez! This place is kinda strange. It's like they've built their own little privately-owned town. I found the cache quickly and then grabbed some dinner. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 07:32 PM

Duckey

7:16 pm - After checking all the spots I thought possible twice and trying not to disturb the wasp nests nearby, I decided to call a lifeline. I didn't think it was possible to put one there, but I guess it is. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 07:16 PM

UNO JUNIPER

6:42 pm - There were some people in the park today, but it didn't take long to find. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 06:42 PM

6:35 pm - As soon as I saw it I knew what it was. Thanks for the cache.
Posted by jeff at 06:35 PM

Once a Spur

6:23 pm - Well, that's odd. I wonder if anyone would complain if I took one of these home with me. It doesn't look like they're planning on being used anytime soon. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 06:23 PM

Mission Corral

6:03 pm - Back to this park again. There was a guy reading nearby, but he seemed pretty occupied and didn't bother me. I spotted it from the outside, but grabbed it from the inside. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 06:03 PM

5:59 pm - Ants!! All over the cache! Brushed them off, signed and headed on. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 05:59 PM

Columbian Mammoths of the Guadalupe River Basin

5:48 pm - Well I still think this is really cool. I'm not sure if I would have called the authorities if I saw this though - it just looked like an ugly rock to me. There was still a security guy and some volunteers there showing curious people what this was all about. I was just there for the cache. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 05:48 PM

Nefertiti's Pyramid

2:52 pm - Finally, the apex of the pryamid. Being male, I pretty much ignored all the instructions we had gathered and just put it together the way I thought it went. The we read the instructions and did it the right way.

We were in awe of the power we had constructed and it led us to the cache right away. TNLNSL.

I'm sure glad you put this series together, because I'm way too lazy to do this kind of work for placing caches. Excellent job! We're looking forward to more. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 02:52 PM

Nefertiti's Pyramid: Throne

2:26 pm - You sure took some creative license with this one. I think a true queen would demand a more opulant throne! Found it quickly and headed on.

A little ways up we finally caught up with fizzy. He was heading back down with this brother and dog. At the exact same time, dgreno calls to let me know he's on the trail an hour behind us. A strange convergence of cachers here! It must be the power of the pyramid drawing us together. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 02:26 PM

Nefertiti's Pyramid: Viper

2:18 pm - As we approached we saw a flock of wild turkeys in the dry creek. I looked all around before I found it and then noticed that fizzymagic was here today. Where was he? TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 02:18 PM

Nefertiti's Pyramid: King Tut

2:10 pm - We took a walk around the pond to find this one. Where does all the water come from anyway?

We looked in a bunch of places until I found it. TNLNSL. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 02:10 PM

Nefertiti's Pyramid: Underworld

1:41 pm - It was a nice walk out to here and an easy find. I finally gave up taking notes and took a picture with my Treo. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 01:41 PM

Nefertiti's Pyramid: Shrine

1:29 pm - We weren't quite sure which way to go at the fork, but I manged to choose wisely. Some people were picking blackberries off the bushes nearby when we veered off the trail to find this one. Good thing it was sticking out a bit! The final is starting to look complicated! Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 01:29 PM

Nefertiti's Pyramid: Royal Gates

1:19 pm - I was just getting my route straightened out when we came upon another cache. There was only one spot that looked right and sure enough it was there. Once again took some good notes and headed on. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 01:19 PM

Nefertiti's Pyramid: Offerings

1:13 pm - We started off heading in the wrong direction, but made a quick u-turn and walked over to this one. Once when I was here the gate was open and I drove up. There was just a dirt turnaround, but I'm glad I didn't park here as the gate was locked when I came back from my hike.

We took note of the instructions and anxiously headed on for the next one. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 01:13 PM

12:06 pm - When I found this one it brought a smile to my face. It was in the first place I looked and MotorBug was complaining to me that he DNF'd this one. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:06 PM

11:58 am - I was running out of possibilities when I found this one. I remember the other cache that used to be nearby. That was a toughie - I'm surprised it's gone now. Thanks.

11:32 am - I found the original Bugs, but not this one. Looked pretty thoroughly at ground zero, but I think kids play here.

VTA Diridon Station

10:32 am - This was a weird place. First I drove up a street to the cache that wasn't really a street. While I was searching, some VTA workers came by, did some quick work and left. My GPS was all over the place, but I eventually found it. I didn't feel like I should have been hanging out here though.

3:35 pm - I was going to grab this one on the way to the event but I missed the turn. MotorBug and I checked out of the event to go after this one. We both complained of how sore we were after our hike in Quicksilver yesterday. The area was well-trampled so we found the cache easily. TNLNSL. Thanks.

10:39 am - I messed up on this one multiple times, but luckily I have friends who know this kind of stuff. I get it now though.

Funny thing was that last weekend I tried to brute force this one. I saw a spot that seemed to match the title and the hint, so I stalked it out, but couldn't find it. I was way off.

Once at the coordinates, I had trouble finding the cache and started to doubt my sources. But I persisted and found it. I got lucky on multiple counts for this one. Thanks.

Around Ten Birds

10:26 am - I wondered why this one didn't show up in my PQ last week since I was just on the other side of the park. It was disabled, that's why.

I was a bit puzzled at this cache at first when I discounted the first spot I saw. Looked around and then decided to give it a try and found it. Nicely done! Thanks.

Along the De Anza Trail 10 - Camden Oak

4:40 pm - Out with MotorBug and picked this one up - literally it was on the ground. We placed in a bit more secure place and then MotorBug treated me to a Jamba Juice. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 04:40 PM

At A Snails Pace

4:14 pm - I was pretty sure I knew what we were looking for, just not where it was. I called a lifeline and while I was on the call MotorBug found it. Hmm, I think I've seen one of these before. Thanks.

Chemistry: Chapter 11

3:41 pm - I think I had some serious help with this one, but it was a long time ago. In fact the cache hasn't been visited in 6 months! It looks like it's been through some rain as it was kinda moldy. This was a nice consolation prize after downgrading our ambitions in quicksilver today. Thanks!

Leslie's Favorite Trail Cache #1

2:07 pm - Oh man, this one was a lot further than it looked. .44 miles straight line, but over a mile of twists and turns and ups and downs to actually get there. We were tired when we found it and dreaded turning right back around and doing it again. But I've wanted to get these caches back here for a while and there never seems to be an easy way to do them. They're done now! TNLNSL. Thanks.

Leslie's Favorite Trail Cache # 2

1:34 pm - Nice trail here. TNLNSL, barely able to stuff the CITO shirt back in. It seemed like a nice short hike to the other cache, so we headed off. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 01:34 PM

Tie Exchange

12:54 pm - We were getting going on this hike and it felt good, so I powered up the trail, releasing a week's worth of stress with it. We were definitely sweating by the time we reached the top.

We sat down in the shade while we sifted through the cache. TNLNSL. I'm going to be sore tomorrow! Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 12:54 PM

Los Capitancillos Ridge

12:29 pm - MotorBug tried another ridge before we found this one. Although he had done this one before, he was absolutely no help because he didn't remember it. I managed to find him a new pair of glasses even for the next time he loses his, but he didn't keep them.

He did find the cache for me. That was nice. TNLNSL. Afterwards we debated for a while whether or not we should continue down. MotorBug finally agreed, saying "Why Not? I've done dumber things in my life." Now that's the spirit!

Posted by jeff at 12:29 PM

Alien Rover

12:02 pm - We came up over the hill and found the cache easily. I didn't even notice the wasps until I read it in the logs. Motorbug feasted on the cache while I signed the log. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 12:02 PM

Above the Mine

11:50 am - I'm looking at a map on Oct 30 and I notice this cache is still hanging out. Hey, it's another one I forgot to log! I'm pretty sure I remember MotorBug cursing me for making him go up this hill. And I think I took a CITO t-shirt and left some stuff for it. Anyway, thanks!
Posted by jeff at 11:50 AM

Missing: One Horse

11:28 am - There's lots of old junk outside the cache and lots of new junk inside. Quick find with MotorBug spotting snakes for me. TNLNSL. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 11:28 AM

Virus Alpha 5

11:17 am - We had very poor reception here, so MotorBug was on one side of the trail while I was on the other. Thankfully, we found the cache. This virus certainly is spreading... Thanks!

Dam Hicks! (Nazgul Secret Trailhead #2)

10:56 am - I don't feel so bad in not finding it during my quick search last time. Today I noticed something odd right away and then found it with some more investigation. Once I did, I let MotorBug make the discovery himself. Interesting contraption! Thanks.

I want to be a Hilton

9:15 pm - This one popped up very close to MotorBug's house while he was away, so we grabbed it just after he got off the plane. I moved the car so the headlights would be on the area we were searching when I found it. I've seen a couple of these before. Nicely done. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 09:15 PM

Sit On It

8 pm - I was on my way to pick up MotorBug at the airport and stopped by for this cache on the way. There was a couple doing stretches very close by, but I was able to grab the cache OK. Thanks.

GOT NET?

7:20 pm - I parked within 5 feet of this one and immediately saw something strange as I got out of the car. Sure enough that was the cache. Thanks.

GeoBeads #8 - A Little Evil

7:06 pm - I searched the wrong area at first, then found someplace closer to the coordinates, though I never got within 30 feet. Well hidden. The bead was cute. Thanks!

Pacific Shores Point

5:11 pm - Replaced the cache. The first thing I found was the steak knife that STP Ron found. It looks like some locals were using it to carve their names into the table.

The second thing I found was a tiny rare-earth magnet with some glue on it. Since it was pretty clear that the cache was gone, I trashed out the knife and replaced the cache with a black film can.

I had no idea that this complex was out here. Thanks!

Frank's Tannery

4:40 pm - I never would have guessed there was a little trail here. The math looked a little complicated, but I went through it quickly. My first cut at the coordinates didn't work out - they put me in the middle of a store. I went on to another cache and came back, taking a different guess at D. A bit of searching and I came up with it. Interesting history, thanks. TNLNSL.

4:27 pm - Quick one. Thanks.

4:03 pm - I was amazed that I haven't been up this way the 5 months since this cache has been placed. Found it quick enough. Strange building. Thanks.

The Station 2 Cache

3:51 pm - When I arrived the park was FULL of people...at the other end from the cache. I wandered over and found the cache quickly. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:51 PM

Fair Oaks Cache

3:44 pm - I took some weird streets to this one that had this zigzaggy thing every block or so.

Once I arrived, I thought for sure this place would have kids all over the place. Instead I had it all to myself. Quick find. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 03:44 PM

Bridge Over Troubled Water

3:28 pm - I noticed a couple of those huge birdhouses on the way in. I wonder what they're for?

Lots of muggles going by today so my search was frequently interrupted. Once it was by a guy riding one of those old-style bicycles with the really big wheel in front and a tiny one in back. Strangely, he asked me if I knew what the birdhouse was for.

Anyway found the cache once I read the description of the container. I'd call this a micro instead of a small. Thanks.

Matadero Creek Canal

3:02 pm - After spending a week in North Carolina, it felt good to be doing some caching back in the Bay Area where it's not ridiculously hot and humid.

I did OK on the first stage, but the hide technique on the second stage wasn't my favorite. I spent a lot of time getting dirty before spotting it. A hint on the attachment method would solve that. Thanks.

A Cache Wrapped in a Mystery Inside an Enigma

12:41 pm - After exploring the "cave" for a while I looked around a bit more and found the cache. I used to have one of these myself, but it was taken and I decided I didn't want to encouraging people to suspect every one of these they see. Anyway, this was out of the way enough. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 12:41 PM

Fort Fisher Cache

12:18 pm - Oh boy, it was hooootttt here today. We just came over the ferry and stopped for a quick cache. I couldn't have found it sooner. TNLNSL. Thanks.

GO FISH!

11:39 am - It was hot out there today doing all that counting. I wasn't sure about my coordinates, especially when I arrived there, so I double-checked them. As I walked towards the zer0 point a man looked at me expentantly from the yard. I asked him if I was in the right place and he said if I had a GPS, I was. Phew, I felt a bit weird here. Found the cache easily and then the landowner went to retrieve a new log book for the cache. I signed the new book and TNLNSL. Thanks!

Oak Island Park Bench

11:27 am - The sprinklers were on, but I just ran though them. It was hot out there today. I found the bench easily and headed on my way. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 11:27 AM

Peering from Noah's Ark

11:14 am - This was one tough cache! Could you save my ego and add a star to the difficulty? The first thing I did was look in the "standard" place for this kind of location, but came up empty. Searched around and around while muggles passed , read all the logs and looked some more. I was about to go inside and see if anyone who works here could help me out!

Finally I spotted it in a place I had discounted at first. The only task left was to avoid the muggles who were trying to fix their bloody feet on the bench nearby. TNLNSL.

Butterflies are Free

10:29 am - This was a cool park. I liked the Talking Trees though the one I tried wasn't working. I found the plaque and was on my way. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 10:29 AM

Former Fire Fighter

10 am - I drove past this one in Supply, NC today. It doesn't say it's retired, but they have 3 shiny new trucks inside and this one has boards behind its tires, so I think it's been relegated to parade duty.
Posted by jeff at 10:00 AM

Look out for the Grumpy Old Troll.

9:35 am - FTF! I was here on a boat yesterday but today I just had to make the drive over. I would give this another star for difficulty just because there's lots of places to look. I had to get inside to see it. As I was leaving a Dad took his kids over near the cache to "use the facilities". I hope they missed! TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 09:35 AM

Elmer's Pot of Gold

9:21 am - FTF! This cache could be a driveup if you have a 4x4. The big puddles would cause problems for other vehicles right now though. Lots of trash here - I CITO'd some on the way out. The cache was easy to find. TNLNSL. I thought it would have been funny to make it an "urban" micro and put the cache in one of the newspaper boxes dumped nearby. Thanks!

G Pa's Cove

3:30 pm - The cache is alive and well. We rented a pontoon boat from Southport and headed to this cache on our way back from Holden Beach. The sand was very soft here. TNLNSL. Thanks for the cool spot!
Posted by jeff at 03:30 PM

Treasure Island

1:48 pm - We rented a pontoon boat in Southport today and headed towards this cache. It was a great day to be out.
The sand was hot, but the cache was easy to find. There were lots of people wading in the sandbars, so I guess I could have swam to it. Anyway, TNLNSL. Thanks!

Dead 'Federate Cache

I found this old cemetary in Southport, NC while doing a another cache here. I thought it would be easy to find a confederate soldier in one of these places, but it took me quite a while.

This is the grave of William R. Ferguson of Company A, 37th Virgina Infantry. It's complete with a confederate flag and a VFW stake. The Civil War was a foreign war??

Dock of the bay

11:29 am - My Treo died when I got here, so I was worried that I would need the description. As I approached I realized it wouldn't be necessary - there was a group of cachers with the cache in hand. Thanks for the quick find!
Posted by jeff at 11:29 AM

Southport History

10:52 am - I did half of this multi yesterday, but I had to catch a ferry so iI didn't finish the last two waypoints. I wasn't sure about my coordinates, but I found the marker alright. This is a neat old place. Thanks for the tour.

Halyburton Park Cache

4:45 pm - Swanky new park! I was almost certain that I would DNF this one because I must have done something wrong for waypoint 3. After trying to brute force the coords, I found the intended point on my way back to the car. Luckily the cache itself was much easier to find. TNLNSL. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 04:45 PM

Halyburton Handicache

4:26 pm - I was busy getting lost doing the multi, but managed to find this one easily. Thanks for the walk on this hot day.

Greenfield Lake Micro Cache

3:44 pm - It was raining a bit, but it felt good on this hot day. Searched a few places before I found it. Yeah, the log was pretty wet. I passed by a very tame duck on the way back to my car; he didn't move as I passed within feet of him. TFTC.

Vereen Memorial Garden Cache

3:37 pm - Nice tour of the park! The first stage was tough since I wasn't sure what I was looking for. The next two stages were nice walks on this hot day.

At the last stage I ran into Team AlphaOmega. Sorry if I didn't take time to chat - I was gone way longer than what my family expected! I found the cache quickly and TNLNSL. On the way out I chatted with the locals who must have been surprised at all the cachers coming and going today.

Thanks for my first SC cache!

2:53 pm - I was about to start searching for this one when a guy in an old jalopy pulled up then slowly walked to the house across the street. He knocked on the door, no one answered, so he slowly walked back and left.

After that I found the cache in a few minutes. Thanks for the cache!
