Spazzed Out!

4:35 pm - I did eventually find all the Happy Birthday caches and I left a letter in each log that when combined spells a message. To my knowledge no one has figured out the message and it's probably impossible now if half of them have gone missing.

Anyway, this puzzle wasn't a problem and I picked up today while I was in the neighborhood. Thanks.

What kind of lover??

4:34 pm - The logs were helpful here as the coordinates put me in the trees and it looks like someone has been living in there. Found it soon after. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 04:34 PM

RED TAIL POWER

4:08 pm - The cache is currently behind some yellow caution tape. I promised myself to be cautious and wandered in. I stayed away from the PO and found the cache a bit lower than I expected. I might have also seen some hawks; I'm not sure. Anyway, I spend the next half-hour plucking ants off me. They've taken over the cache. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 04:08 PM

Lilie & Lois's

4:00 pm - I like to be first at things. Take this cache for example. I was first to solve and now I'm first to DNF. I checked all the nearby objects and couldn't come up with it. I'll be watching.

Another way up – 1, Troll Haven

3:28 pm - This was the last cache for us one way down. That's a good thing since the feet were getting tired. Nicely hidden. We TNLNSL. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 03:28 PM

Another way up - 1.5, Mill Creek Road

3:05 pm - I got myself into trouble for this one. We ended up hiking onto the road and then realized we needed to get back on the other side. My other half was not happy about having to limbo under a barbed wire fence. With that behind us, we found the cache OK. This might not be the most stable location though. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:05 PM

Another way up – 2, Lizard’s Home

2:38 pm - Nope, it's another way down for us as we parked a car at Stanford Ave and another at Ohlone to make this a one-way trip. It wasn't hard to find and we TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 02:38 PM

Backside of Mission Peak

2:27 pm - I nearly fell on MY backside on the way down to this one. Those rocks are like walking on marbles. Perhaps I hid it too well for ito-yo. TFTC.

Posted by jeff at 02:27 PM

Jazz and Echo

2:26 pm - I met Jazz and Echo once when we met up with winini at a cache. It seems like I've been trying to catch them ever since. I found plenty of tokens on the trail today, but I think I've got the whole set. Now winini will place a 6 of a pair or some nonsuch and I'll regret it. Anyway, thanks for the cache. TNLNSL.

Maya Silver: Tears of the Moon

1:59 pm - Woo hoo! It was a long hike up, but worth it. The views were great and we enjoyed the day. The camo is falling apart a bit, but otherwise the cache is in good shape. TNLNSL. Thanks for another awesome series!
Posted by jeff at 01:59 PM

Maya Silver: Secrets

1:22 pm - By drawing skills are subpar at best, so I took pictures at each stage. We entered in the numbers from all the pictures then had a moment of panic when there were still 2 important digits left. We doublechecked and found that we missed them. The coords looked good and we headed off. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 01:22 PM

Weather Vane

Gah! I was just there an hour ago and thinking that weather vane was cool! Oh well.
Posted by jeff at 01:00 PM

Maya Silver: Redoubt

12:54 pm - This is definately the road less travelled. The trail was overgrown in parts and our legs were bleeding by the time we got to the cache. It was a nice day though. Thanks for another rest.
Posted by jeff at 12:54 PM

Maya Silver: Escape

12:30 pm - I love these excuses to take a break! TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:30 PM

Maya Silver: Sacrifice

12:12 pm - We've been looking for a replacement torture device for our cat, so this laser was a nice find. Left a keychain etch a sketch and an M&M guy. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:12 PM

Maya Silver: Betrayal

12:03 pm - These caches really do pull you up the hill. Still a long way to go though. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:03 PM

Maya Silver: Greed

11:40 am - Someday I'll have to read all this stuff. Took nothing, left the Buckle Up travel bug. Thanks for the break.
Posted by jeff at 11:40 AM

Maya Silver: Encounter

11:26 am - I had just finished downloading my pocket query when I looked up and noticed we were right near the first cache. Ah, familiar camo. TNLNSL. Thanks.

Fort Benicia

4:25 pm - We drove to the wrong spot and it didn't make sense at all. We drove back and found a much more logical place. The cache was still pretty hard to find though. I did several rounds before I found it. TNLNSL. Lots of broken glass here, be careful! Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 04:25 PM

Camel Cavalry Cache

4:04 pm - That's pretty interesting. I didn't expect to find this here. Some kind of function was being prepared for, so we didn't linger. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 04:04 PM

Jack sat here

3:46 pm - Man, this one is tough. I feel lucky to have spotted it. There weren't too many muggles around which also helped. The bench was neat. Be sure to check out the bottom for some funny stuff. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 03:46 PM

Drunken Sailor

3:13 pm - This was a nice spot for quick walk. Lots of plaques to choose from but we found 'em. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:13 PM

Working Capitol

3:06 pm - We've never been downtown here. It's nice. We made this a driveup. Thanks for the history.
Posted by jeff at 03:06 PM

Here Kitty Kitty

3:00 pm - We found the cute cache and then a bike lying in the bushes. TNLNSL. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 03:00 PM

Benicia Barracks

2:38 pm - We took a quick tour of the park and then took a gander at all the cars next door. So that's where they call come from! Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 02:38 PM

Another Quiet Corner in Benicia

2:29 pm - This was a cool spot, though I felt like there were people watching me from every angle. Thanks for the tour.
Posted by jeff at 02:29 PM

Mothball Vista Vista

2:08 pm - We took the sane way up to this one and found it OK. Nice view. TFTC.
Posted by jeff at 02:08 PM

Mothball Fleet

1:57 pm - I've always wondered what the deal was with these. Quick find. TNLNSL. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 01:57 PM

Keep Out

1:51 pm - I knew right where to look for this one. My only worry is that wasps like to hang out here. Made the quick grab and headed on. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 01:51 PM

MarshView

1:46 pm - It was nice to get off the highway for a bit. We spotted this one from the car. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 01:46 PM

Thank God?

1:32 pm - Some Corvette club was hanging around in the parking lot and people were right next to the cache. They weren't leaving anytime soon, so we split. Another day perhaps.
Posted by jeff at 01:32 PM

Jellies

1:21 pm - We've been talking about coming here again for a while. We decided it was time for another sugar fix and made this the destination for our day. We went in and bought $86(!!) of beans and then looked for the cache. Looked and looked most of the way through a jawbreaker but couldn't spot it. With the sugar buzz we were on, it was hard to care.

The K-Leave Me Cache

I always thought this was somewhere else. Easy to miss. It reminded me of Mrs. Doubtfire though I don't think I've ever seen all of that movie. Thanks!

Counting With Grace

5:58 pm - This one was tough. I don't have enough fingers to count that high, especially for D! We counted and double-checked each other, then guessed for D. I checked one spot first, and then another where I found the cache. Lots of PO around so I had to be careful. TNLNSL. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 05:58 PM

Milagra Ridge View

5:35 pm - The fog could wait no longer and had rolled back in by the time we got here. There was no view to be had so we made it quick walk up and back down. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 05:35 PM

See wall. Sea wall walk.

5:06 pm - We enjoyed the walk here. It was cooling off after a warm day and people were all about. Every stage was well done, but we had a hard time finding the final. Finally did and TNLNSL, though we found a few golf balls around and nearly got hit by another! Thanks for the walk.
Posted by jeff at 05:06 PM

The Four Lucky Charms

4:31 pm - This one turned out to be quick. I was glad I grabbed a coin. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 04:31 PM

Ghostly Secret of Pacifica

4:23 pm - We saw this place from down below and hoped there would be a cache here to explain what it was about. That's one nasty hill! Anne was worried that we wouldn't make it up. It was cool to read about the history too. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 04:23 PM

Pomo Hollows

4:17 pm - Cool mini-park and nice play structure. It took me a bit of searching to find the cache. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 04:17 PM

Sunset Escape

3:59 pm - I spotted this one between muggles. A hawk was hanging out near by. Someone was having their wedding photos taken there as well. Great spot. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 03:59 PM

San Andreas Goes Surfing Earthcache

3:36 pm - This was a really cool spot. We spent some time exploring as the tide was just right. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 03:36 PM

Secret Sign

3:04 pm - This was a cool spot to check out. We counted over 10 muggles in flight. Despite the previous DNF log I found it easily. TNLNSL. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 03:04 PM

Play Ball!

2:47 pm - We looked for this one a bit until we read the logs. Time to kill this one I think.
Posted by jeff at 02:47 PM

Li'l Stickers

2:32 pm - This one took me a few looks, but I eventually spotted it. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 02:32 PM

Bead Jewelry Above the Valley

2:22 pm - More beads! We beaded around the bush for a while then we bead done found the cache! TNLN. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 02:22 PM

Kathy's Cause

2:14 pm - Well, we couldn't find the first stage of this one, so like the others we bruted forced the second one. It wasn't quite doing what the hint indicated though. The final was easy and we TNLNSL. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 02:14 PM

Li'l Girly Things

1:55 pm - I'm obviously not into lil girly things, so we took TNLNSL. Thanks for the cache.

Easy as Pi 1

4:08 pm - 20th to find, but somehow I got the FTF prize!

I wrote some code to solve this one and the other one a while back. Interesting puzzle.

I came to search today with MotorBug. I guess everyone forgot about the FTF prize after bullit DNFed it. I was looking for the cache in the wrong place when I found it. I had it open it to verify that it wasn't the cache.

As for the cache, I saw it, but completely ignored it. MotorBug wasn't so easily fooled though. Thanks for the nice prize!

Posted by jeff at 04:08 PM

Something to read?

2:20 pm - I thought it was near where MotorBug's old cache was, so I was way too preoccupied with that area in my search. There were some kids hanging around, so I had to wait until they left.

Then I followed my GPS to the nice hide, clear on the other side of the building. Oh well. TFTC.

Minty Fresh, w/o Altoids

5:17 pm - Well, my phone has a pretty crappy camera and this is what I got. Not great, but it does prove I was there. Good enough?
Posted by jeff at 05:17 PM

8:27 am - Trippy. Found it on my way to a meeting downtown. Thanks!

101 TFTs - Three of a kind

Finally cornered a black echo. Clear Echo 196, Yellow 293, Black 253. The shadow is my cat Pixel, who wanted to see what was going on. Thanks!

G-O SBC

2:50 pm - I was pretty excited to see there was a cache here now. I tried to find it on the way in, but had some trouble and my wife got impatient. I snuck away in the 7th to search some more. My find was complicated by the fact that my coordinates were pointing me to a different spot that matched part of the hint. Once I saw the other part I knew I was in the right place but my GPSr was way off. It wasn't hard to find then and I was rewarded with an elusive black echo! Thanks for cache!

Eagle Rock

7:58 pm - I was dead tired as I went up to this one, after taking a few unscheduled detours and completely running out of water. I nearly asked some people how much I could pay them to buy some of their water, but kept going instead.

When I finally got here it was almost dark and I had to search with a flashlight. I searched the wrong area at first, then adjusted and found it much to my relief. It was too long of a day to end in a DNF. TNLNSL.

As I headed out I was rewarded with a really nice view of the valley at night. I was ready to head home. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 07:58 PM

Railway Bridge

7:30 pm - I came armed with a hint from the owner after my last DNF many months ago. Checking carefully, I came up empty. It might be time to check on this one.
Posted by jeff at 07:30 PM

Boccardo

6:34 pm - I sat at quick cache for quite a while trying to psych myself up to do this cache.

There were many reasons not to do it. The 1000 ft elevation. The last 3 DNFs. The 6 months since it had been found. The fact that I was almost out of water or that it was 5 pm.

After reading the logs, I convinced myself to give it a try. I was really tired though and stopped quite often. Dehydration was settling in and I felt like vomiting. The whole way up I questioned whether or not this was a good idea, but I felt committed and I kept progressing.

An hour later I made it to the top. The views were great. You don't often get views so close to San Jose.

I had less success finding the cache. I searched in all the possible spots and even managed to ask kablooey where he found it. There was no sign of it.

As a last resort, I searched through my bag and came up with a replacement cache. The container is a prescription bottle and the log sheet is part of a map. I covered it with a few rocks. If the owner would rather I didn't replace it, you can delete this log.

The way back down was much easier (funny how that goes), but I still could have used some water. Thanks for the challenge.

Posted by jeff at 06:34 PM

Quick Cache

5:02 pm - Quick, huh? That's cruel. It had been a long day and it was about to get longer, so I stopped a while for a rest. Easy find, thanks!
Posted by jeff at 05:02 PM

Eagle Rock Trailhead

4:34 pm - This was a really helpful cache. I never would have found this trailhead. I zeroed in a bit away and I looked in a lot of unlikely spots then found it in a better spot. It was a little out of place and it had been wet, but it was dry now. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 04:34 PM

Capitalization

4:11 pm - I figured out some of this on my own, but not much. Kablooey held my hand through the rest, all the way through the hide. He helped me on IM because there were muggles around. Thanks for the puzzle.
Posted by jeff at 04:11 PM

Daddy Duck

3:49 pm - In the absense of cachers, it looks like some spiders have taken over the cache. I found it easily. I'm not sure why, but this park's name always cracks me up. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 03:49 PM

McKee Station

3:40 pm - I had no trouble with this one. Interesting cache holder! Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:40 PM

Rocky

3:24 pm - This wasn't an easy one, but I found it mostly with logical deduction. I found some yellow echos inside; I was hoping for black. Oh well. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:24 PM

Milpitas War Picnic

2:34 pm - While I have the necessary equipment to have a picnic, I had a bad caching experience in that park, so I chose to do the math.

The walk up wasn't bad once I found the trail. The cache was easy to find - too easy. The top was not on securely and the log revealed that it had been found by some muggles recently. They didn't take anything though, so I signed the log, TNLN, and hid it a bit better.

I took the correct way back to the car and it was much harder. I don't recommend it!

Posted by jeff at 02:34 PM

Don't Reach Up

2:26 pm - I was kinda confused about how to read the map and get to this one, so I ended up walking up a road and then bushwacking up to the trail. That put me within 10 feet of the cache though! Found it easily and covered it up a bit better. Thanks.

Rootin for a bone

6:27 pm - These were some bizarre trees to match a bizarre container. Isn't this overpass relatively new? Why is it falling apart?? Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 06:27 PM

Four Coyotes and an Eagle

6:10 pm - I considered walking from the free parking, but decided to drive instead. Bad move. The Tapestry festival was in town and it was tough to find a place to park. Finally found a spot and walked over. I took a detour around the cop and then zeroed in.

Looks like TeamAlamo was here earlier and left his dirty undies. I just 10,000 caches will make you forget things like that.

Posted by jeff at 06:10 PM

High Water

5:49 pm - I tend to be pretty blind when it comes to decons, but I could not find this diff 1 cache. Some kids were nearby; perhaps they saw TeamAlamo and friends earlier.
Posted by jeff at 05:49 PM

Guadalupe River Trail Free Parking

5:35 pm - This one wasn't hard to spot, but tough to grab. Like a primitive ape, I discovered a stick can be used as a tool and pulled the cache to my reach. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 05:35 PM

Miner Minor

5:08 pm - I had the right idea on this one, but it took a trip back to the car to confirm what I was looking for. Some kids were making out nearby, but they were obviously distracted so it wasn't hard to search. Phew, got it. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 05:08 PM

Comanche Pine

4:46 pm - Local hoodlums were hanging out a few feet from the cache. I buzzed by then waited but they weren't going anywhere. I left this one for another day.
Posted by jeff at 04:46 PM

Spycache #1 HUMINT: This Document Does Not Exist

4:34 pm - I'm usually bad at decon containers, but I managed to find this one right away. The sequel to this one however still makes no sense to me. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 04:34 PM

Almaden Cache

4:10 pm - I spotted this quickly, but had to wait to make the grab. Lately I've been thinking about caches around here would hold up in a hurricane. I think if we got something like that that here, this one would end up being an offset cache! Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 04:10 PM

Tribute to Julia Child

3:59 pm - I'm not much of a cook, but I'm good at eating! TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:59 PM

Secret Trailhead: Sierra Azul

3:31 pm - Why hasn't anyone been here in 3 months? The cache sure was dusty. TNLNSL. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 03:31 PM

Bigger than Dave's

3:29 pm - Well I gave WoW a container this size, so perhaps I should call this one "Mine is as Big as Steve's".

Lots to choose from, but TNLNSL. Thanks!

Posted by jeff at 03:29 PM

Kennedy Road Trailhead

3:05 pm - When I started from here, there were a lot of bicyclists hanging around so I left this one for later. I walked up with MRsquared and found it in the first place I looked. We looked for winini tokens but TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 03:05 PM

Let The Climb Begin!

2:48 pm - I had just run into fredericxx, tonton-ca and SurfingMonkeys. They were easy to spot with their geocaching tshirts. We had a nice chat and I told them about the new cache. Just as I was about to head off-trail someone walked by. I stopped dead and turned around while they passed.

I was feeling jumpy when I headed towards the cache when I hear a voice boom out from the trees. I jumped, then recognized the tree-dweller as MRsquared. It was not the first time I found him in the middle of retreiving a cache. I first apologized for getting the FTF earlier today which is what I assumed he was up here for. I guess that was good payback for scaring me.

We walked back to the car together. That man keeps a pretty good pace! TNLNSL. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 02:48 PM

Take A Break!

2:05 pm - This trail is annoyingly twisty. I thought I was close and then had to walk quite a distance more. I didn't have a to take much of a break here on the way down, but I probably should have on the way up! Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 02:05 PM

Tap'd Out or Top'd Out?

1:29 pm - I'm saved about half the caches on this trail for the way down so I wouldn't be bored. As I got close I ran into a whole bunch of people on bikes and hiking. It was getting downright crowded up here! Found the cache easily. TNLNSL. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 01:29 PM

Kennedy View

1:16 pm - I think you'd need to be in the NBA to find this cache as the hint indicates.

A couple of bikes went by so I had to wait to grab the cache. Thanks.

Posted by jeff at 01:16 PM

Kennedy Meadow

1:06 pm - Hey, what's the deal with the terrain rating on these caches? Shouldn't they be increasing? 3.5? I don't think so!

I found the cache easily. I thought teamalamo's heart attack log was pretty funny. TNLNSL. Thansk!

Posted by jeff at 01:06 PM

I remember doing this one, but I guess I forgot to log it. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 01:00 PM

Spin A Brodie

12:47 pm - I remember stopping here for the view on our deathmarch a long time ago. I was getting tired here and I bobbled around a bit before I found it. I took the Buckle Up TB. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:47 PM

Hole'd On There Pardn'r!

12:26 pm - Yet another stop on the CKayaks childhood nostagia trail. Quick find, but not so quick retreival. It's like this hole was custom-made for the cache! Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:26 PM

Going Down Town?

11:45 am - I'm glad this one was replaced. Later I ran into fredericxx and friends who told me it was replaced which confused me because I didn't know it was missing. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 11:45 AM

Rub A Dub Dub

11:21 am - FTF. It's amazing to see one last so long around here!

I saw this one pop up and I was planning on heading up this trail soon, but I didn't make the connection until I was on my way up. I found the numbers easily and found the surprising water source.

Decon containers are nearly invisible to me, so it took a while to find. I was pleasantly surprised to find the log book squeaky-clean though! I filled out the info on the log book cover too.

Thanks for the cache.

Posted by jeff at 01:57 PM

Star Gazer

12:18 pm - It's nice to see an old cache still kickin'. I didn't trust WoW's GPS in the redwoods so I took the high road but he found the cache which means I climbed twice as much as I had to. TNLNSL. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 12:18 PM

Castaway

11:37 am - It took us a while to find this one, but only because we were distracted by the stingrays. Sure, that's it. Called a couple of lifelines but still took a while to find. I must learn to be more methodical about these things.

On the way out we noticed a pidgeon floating in the water like a duck. Weird. We scared him a bit but he couldn't seem to get into flight. He must have been injured.

Thanks for the cache!

Posted by jeff at 11:37 AM

Cora's cache

10:43 am - Nicely named! British Invasion found this one before even had time to get frustrated. No fair! Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 10:43 AM

Oakie Hill Cache

10:31 am - After I treated everyone to a couple of u-turns we arrived at the cache. Shadow101 gave us the guided tour on this one, so it was quick. Thanks!

San Lorenzo Pioneer Cemetery

10:04 am - I had heard this one was tough, but I figured with 4 of us we had it covered. It took a while but of course WoW spotted it. We moved it closer to the hint. Thanks.

9:42 am - I don't know how we missed this thing on several passes of searching. There's a happy ending to this one though. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 09:42 AM

Return to Eden #3 - Green Leaves

9:33 am - Hmm, too many caches today and this one is fading on my memory. Somehow we missed the dead cats. Well I can't say I actually *missed* them, but I did not see them.
Posted by jeff at 09:33 AM

Return to Eden 4 - Morning Glory

9:26 am - I kinda felt like I was in someone's backyard when we were signing this one. I see from the later logs that the neighbor felt so as well. Oh well, I got it while it lasted.
Posted by jeff at 09:26 AM

More Power To Ya!

9:04 am - First we took a lovely trip around the trailer park. How delightful. Then we drove to the cache. British Invasion and I saw the cache at the same time and fought over grabbing it. Nice camo. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 09:04 AM

8:48 am - I made some less than optimal navigation decisions on the way here, but we made it. I think WoW made the find before I stepped out of my car. Thanks for the fun.
Posted by jeff at 08:48 AM

Hex If I Know

8:34 am - Ah geez, we looked around and around for this one. Finally WoW came up with it. Thank god he did!
Posted by jeff at 08:34 AM

M.O.M.

8:12 am - Mother of all Micros made us thing this one would be bigger, but I guess not. It's a good thing we had WoW with us for this one. He spotted it after we were all convinced we were in the wrong spot. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 08:12 AM

Turk Island Revisited

8:03 am - We happened to arrive at a time when the gate was open and we assumed that was the way into the cache. Nope. Shadow101 found a shortcut back into the park though and we limboed back in. Now that's an unexpected attachment method. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 08:03 AM

You're a Pepper?

7:47 am - I was on my way up to the event with Shadow101, WoW and British Invasion, but somehow I got there significantly ahead of them. Must have have been WoW's driving.

By the time they arrived I had already spotted the container. I expected a different form of camo. No matter, we signed it quickly and headed off for more. Thanks.

Birch Grove Park

7:33 am - As we were searching for this one I didn't understand why I didn't have it in my pocket query on my Treo. I forgot to download it - that's why! By the time I got the description downloaded, WoW had found it. Oh well. Thanks.

7:22 am - This was a quick find in the early morning on the way to the picnic. I was still yawning. Thanks!
