Dark Satanic Mills

10:40 am - The owner let us know what mistake we made and it was an easy find not too far away from where we were looking. We enjoyed the tour and the history. Thanks!

Dark Satanic Mills

7:26 pm - We had fun driving between all the waypoints here, but in the end came up empty. We hope to give it another try soon!

Gateway Park

4:13 pm - Another one "on the way" to doing Dark Satanic Mills. Using my patented nano detection technique, I found it quickly. The log is completely full and needs to be replaced. Thanks.

Learn to Earn - UNH Manchester

4:05 pm - While doing Dark Satanic Mills, we stopped by this one. The hint really helped. Thanks!

Cachers Watering Hole

3:59 pm - We started searching the wrong wall which would have taken quite a long time. Once we got to the right place it wasn't that bad. Thanks.

General Stark

2:52 pm - Boy, this one really made you work! We found all the waypoints except we messed up one of the counts at one stage, but the coordinate were so far off that we realized our mistake quickly. We had never been down here, so it was fun to explore this area, even next to the "Architecturally Secure" facility. TNLN. Thanks!

Black Brook Cache

1:12 pm - We had a nice walk around this pond that we had never been to before. We couldn't find the second waypoint, but read the logs and figured we could find the 3rd easily and we did. The last one was easily found. On the way back we ran into some other caches who managed to dig out the 2nd waypoint. We stopped by on the way back to see where it was.

TNLN. Thanks for the walk!

Cullerot Park

12:22 pm - This cache is a block away from my parents' house, so it was first on our list for the day. We had a lot of trouble with the first waypoint not knowing what we were looking for. Finally my Mom spotted the coordinates. In the end each one of us found a different stage. TNLN. Thanks!

Not A Thru Road

4:41 pm - We were getting really worried about time when we headed for this one. It was hard to judge the distance with all the switchbacks. I'm glad we did it though because it would have been a long hike down to this dead end some other time. TNLN. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 04:41 PM

Another Reason

4:29 pm - I sure wish these caches were here when I did the long hike all the way down to Lexington View long ago. Oh well, thanks for the return visit incentive!

Only Shade Around

4:24 pm - Shade was not a problem today. In fact, we had the opposite problem - we needed more sun to make it back to the car before dark. Luckily we found it quickly. Thanks!

2 Benchmarks and a Cache

3:59 pm - Wow, I'm impressed MotorBug could make it all the way up here. Nice view in the fading daylight. We made a (possibly unwise) decision to go for 3 more. Better walk fast! Thanks.

Boulter's Rule #23 of Geocaching in the Bay Area

3:47 pm - Was this actually one of my rules? I can't remember anymore. In any case, it's a good one.

This would probably be a good time to state another rule, one I just made up today:

Boulter's Rule #11 of Geocaching in the Bay Area: It's generally not a good idea to embark on a 5-mile hike with a lot of vertical change with less than 2 hours of daylight left.

TA@10K #6000: Trail? What Trail?

2:59 pm - We definitely went too far up the stream. We got to the point where the stream forked and realized that this would have been in the description. We backtracked and looked for suspicious ferns. I happened to notice something a little strange near one and found the cache. Wow, great camo. TNLN.

We didn't see three logs near the cache site, but just using the boulders, it's not hard to find. Thanks!

Big Calves 2

2:14 pm - It was pretty obvious from the description of where the cache should be, but it wasn't there. I suspect it rolled down the hill somewhere. I searched down there a bit, but didn't find it, so I replaced it with a small black container. It's in a dead branch on the same tree. Cache on!

It Was Better Than Bad, It Was Good

1:47 pm - Cool, I had never been up on this trail before. It took a bit of digging around to find the cache, but we found it in good shape. TNLN. Thanks!

picnic at the pond

1:28 pm - Stuck my hand in all kinds of nasty places, but didn't come up with it.
Posted by jeff at 01:28 PM

Big Calves and Shin Splints

1:11 pm - Well, it was pretty short. Took a CITO kit and left a snowman Pez dispenser. Thanks!

Howdy Pardn'r

3:45 pm - Howdee, yessiree! Boy I feel like half the caches I've found are decons hanging in a bush. TNLN. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 03:45 PM

Edgewood's Front Door

3:29 pm - MotorBug, defying all traffic signs, drove in the exit for this log. He's lucky we didn't get in 12-car pileup considering this dangerous parking lot. We tried a bunch of spots before I found it. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 03:29 PM

Elizabeth's Shortcut

3:13 pm - Wow, I got really really lucky and stuck my hand in just the right place. This is pretty evil and I don't know how you made it fit so well. TNLN. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 03:13 PM

Fangorn

2:43 pm - Yeah, this place was pretty Fangorny. Found it with some help from MotorBug. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 02:43 PM

Bayfront Revenge

12:38 pm - Well, I walked right up to this one and found it right away. MotorBug said it should have taken longer to find this well-camo'd cache and insisted I look for it longer! Well done.

She Sells Sea Shells

12:28 pm - Yeah, I was glad to see this one come back since I DNF'd it several months ago. Found it quickly this time. TNLN. Thanks!

Monopoly: Geocaching Edition "Dog"

12:10 pm - MotorBug called and said he had a chance at a FTF on a new puzzle, but he wasn't sure about the coordinates.

We took a look at them together and then realized that his guesses were way off! We found the right answers and headed off. By then we weren't first or second, but it was a nice day for a walk. Thanks!

Moss Landing Channel Marker #2

4:40 pm - I followed the flock down the beach to this cache which I didn't even know existed. There indeed was a cache there though. Thanks for the cool viewing spot!
Posted by jeff at 04:40 PM

Monterey Canyon Cache

4:25 pm - I have to say that i didn't really understand the precise timing of the nearby event. When everyone headed over here I understood why. The cache was already down by then and all I had to do was sign, but I did help fisherwoman bring the cache back down and up again. I have no idea how I would have gotten this on my own! Thanks.

Morning at the Beach

4:09 pm - This was a fun one for MotorBug and I. We were at the event a bit early and thought there might be just enough time for another cache.

MotorBug managed to figure out the coordinates with his PDA. We raced to the coordinates which turned out to be a couple miles of driving away. We searched for a while, but found nothing. Giving up we started walking back. On a hunch I checked out one more spot a hundred feet away from our coordinates and there it was! We signed and made it back to the event just in time and tell kablooey excitedly about what we thought was a very impressive puzzle solution effort! Thanks.

USS Macon - Military Zeppelin

3:42 pm - Now this is the way to cache:

1) Cee a bunch of cachers huddled around an apparent cache location.

2) Double-park and let your passenger out to sign the log for you. Keep the engine running.

3) Pick up the passenger and keep caching!

Works for me! Thanks.

The Western Sloughs

3:38 pm - On the way in we saw a a cachemobile with the license plate '50sumtin'. Hmm, wonder who that is?

We ran into him and Pink Static on the over. TNLN. Thanks!

Salinas River SB River Walk

3:22 pm - There were lots of recent cachers on the log sheet here - a sure sign of an imminent event! Sure enough, we ran into WalruZ and BuckyD on the way out. TNLN. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 03:22 PM

Charlie Moss

3:12 pm - Another quick one on the way to the event in Moss Landing. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 03:12 PM

Captain's Inn - The Geocache

3:07 pm - This was the first big cache we found all day. Nicely done. TNLN. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 03:07 PM

Bottom Blue

3:01 pm - MotorBug was nice enough to wait for me to find this one since he had already done it. There was a sole vendor selling tye-dye shirts nearby who was wondering if we were here to buy something from him. Sorry, dude. TNLN. Thanks.

Capitola's Natural Riches

2:03 pm - I've never walked around here before - it's quite nice. Last time I was here it was at the end of the Wharf to Wharf race and it was packed with sweaty people. Thanks for the cache.
Posted by jeff at 02:03 PM

Capitola Wharf

1:52 pm - This was a pretty mean place to put a cache, on par with playgrounds but a bit more creepy. Luckily it wasn't too busy and we eventually found it.
Posted by jeff at 01:52 PM

The Proposal

1:27 pm - Cute story! A little mean, but a good story nonetheless! MotorBug managed to grab this one without trashing his PDA (again). Thanks!

Not a True Street: 26th Avenue Ocean View

1:06 pm - We got lucky with parking at this one as some people were just leaving. MotorBug made the find and we were off for more fun in Santa Cruz. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 01:06 PM

Corcoran Lagoon Anniversary Cache

12:58 pm - This one was hilarious. MotorBug and I just had to unroll the log sheet to see how long it was and it came out to be at least 10 feet long. Where do you find paper this long and this narrow? Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 12:58 PM

Claire's First Cache

12:52 pm - The cache was indeed very sticky. What is it sticky from, anyway? This one might be tough if the store reopens. Thanks.
Posted by jeff at 12:52 PM

Not a True Street: 4th Avenue Ocean View

12:39 pm - Wow, it was a great day out here today. After finding the cache I took a minute to enjoy the sun. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 12:39 PM

Kat "Oh My" Ran

12:22 pm - Motorbug didn't hear me when I called out that I found this one. I had found it, signed it for both of us and was ready for the next and he was still looking for it. Hee hee! TNLN. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 12:22 PM

Frederick Street Park

11:58 am - Found the cache without much trouble and removed the pocket knife. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 11:58 AM

A little bird told me ...

11:47 am - You would definitely have to be a very little bird to fit in there! Found it quickly, thanks!
Posted by jeff at 11:47 AM

Carbonera Creek Cache

11:14 am - We found this one and then noticed a strange buzzing sound. It was the sound of thousands of bees buzzing around the bushes. Thankfually they didn't seem to care about us. TNLN. Thanks!
Posted by jeff at 11:14 AM

Auntie Rwanda

11:08 am - Muggle was hanging out here and we could not get close. Another day.
Posted by jeff at 11:08 AM

Avada Kedavra's Travel Bug Hotel

11:02 am - Eagle-eye Motorbug saw this one from 20 feet away. Impressive! TNLN. Thanks.
