My GPSr was completely useless the whole way. First, it routed us to a road parallel to, but not connecting to the park. After backtracking to Aptos, we found the right entrance. We drove up as far as we could and started walking. The GPSr had already lost its signal.
The map we picked up at the gatehouse was very helpful, but would have been even better if I read it right. We took two wrong turns because we thought we hard parked at the second gate, not the first. When does summer start here, anyway?
It was a long walk to the cache, probably deserving of at least another half-star. We only saw 2 other people on our way up. We saw some little falls first and wondered if they were it, but continued on to find the right falls at the end of trail. There was quite a bit of water flowing today.
I tried to get a gps signal, but it was still useless. I didn't need it find the cache though; I found it in the first place I searched. TNLNSL. It was cool to feel the water pounding on the log from the other end.
After some lunch, we headed back down. A short while later, I felt something like a bite on my leg. I finally stopped to check and found a tick that had crawled up my shorts and was feasting on my thigh. He didn't want to come out, so we fastened some tweezers out of a bent twig and pulled him out.
The rest of the walk back was long but uneventful and we sure were tired by the time we got back. Thanks for the great spot and cache!
