{"id":404,"date":"2006-10-23T20:02:45","date_gmt":"2006-10-24T04:02:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/boulter.com\/blog\/2006\/10\/23\/why-everyone-loves-google\/"},"modified":"2006-10-24T12:25:49","modified_gmt":"2006-10-24T20:25:49","slug":"why-everyone-loves-google","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/boulter.com\/blog\/2006\/10\/23\/why-everyone-loves-google\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Everyone Loves Google"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Quite simply &#8211; everyone is <strong>paid<\/strong> to love Google. <\/p>\n<p>Bloggers love Google because it pays their bills. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/adsense\/afc-online-overview\">AdSense<\/a> makes it easy for anyone to set up a blog and make money.<\/p>\n<p>Corporate websites love Google for the same reason. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adsenseanalyzer.com\/\">AdSense is a huge business<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Know-it-alls love Google because they <a href=\"http:\/\/answers.google.com\/answers\/\">get paid for surfing the web<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Shopping Sites love Google because they&#8217;re <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moskalyuk.com\/blog\/of-course-google-checkout-is-growing\/1260\">subsidizing purchases<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Investors love Google because <a href=\"http:\/\/finance.google.com\/finance?q=google\">their stock is up 560% in 2 years<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Employees love Google because <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/support\/jobs\/bin\/static.py?page=benefits.html\">they get free lunch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mountain View and San Francisco residents love Google because their <a href=\"http:\/\/wifi.google.com\/\">internet access is now free<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone else one loves Google because all their products are free. Why should I buy a copy of <a href=\"http:\/\/gmail.com\">Outlook<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/docs.yahoo.com\/\">Word or Excel<\/a>? I get comparable functionality on Google for free. That saves me a lot of money, especially if I used to pay for these software or services before.<\/p>\n<p>Even if <a href=\"http:\/\/weblogs.hitwise.com\/bill-tancer\/2006\/05\/google_yahoo_and_msn_property.html\">all of your products except one has failed to gain significant marketshare<\/a>, it only matters that you have one mega cash cow to fund it all. For Microsoft, this is Windows and Office, but even they don&#8217;t run the rest of their businesses <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/business\/4362974.stm\">without a model that makes money<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So the question is: when <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.searchenginewatch.com\/blog\/061017-174500\">competition heats up<\/a> and you&#8217;re expected to keep growing at 80% a year, how long can you afford to pay everyone to like you?<\/p>\n<p>Update: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.venturebeat.com\/contributors\/2006\/10\/24\/the-google-myth-goes-pop\/\">The Google Myth Pops<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Quite simply &#8211; everyone is paid to love Google.
