GPS Coordinate Converter

One thing that’s annoyed me is that there’s no easy way to enter GPS coordinates on the web and get a map or look up other info about those coordinates. There are some conversion utilities out there, but they’re a pain to use, requring a lot of cutting and pasting.

I decided to build a better mousetrap with my own converter and mapper tool.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

  1. I like it. Very easy to use and clean. I was using Google maps by centering a location and then using the link to page feature to extract the coordinates then a converter to change them to degrees. Clicking on your Google map is so much simpler. You have earned a free copy of any my cataloging apps. Let me recommend Gamepedia just finishing up the 1.0 release still in Beta 0.9 but looking good. It’s core is based on the more mature brothers at 2.2 version so there nothing to fear from the beta. Like any good looking program it’s just for your Mac, so head on to Bruji.com and drop me an email for a free serial code if you are interested in any of the programs.

  2. i liked what you did there, and because you are expert in this, i would like to ask you, whether you can help me to write a program that records GPS data(longitude and latitude, when a button is pressed a KML-document should be generated that describes the bounding box.
    Thank You !

  3. hi..
Your work is awesome… u seem to be an expert on this so I guess u like to help strugglers like me… we are suppose to do a conversion from an output taken from a GPS Receiver to (X, Y) coordinates matching to our country in order it to be plotted on a map. Can u please tell a way so that I can implement a converter program for this purpose…
    Thank u…

  4. Thanks, this helped me double check a map point. Very nice in its simplicity. If you were to put this in a software package, the only thing I would add is the ability to change your projection for xy’s.

  5. wow this is a greate job . I’m looking for a java or any other code of a converter like this one .I’m now realy in trouble can you help me with this.

    I’ll be grateful

  6. Thank you Jeff. I am using your tool to find gravesites. Findagrave.com is putting GPS coordinates of famous persons on their website. Now if I don’t have a cemetery map, I’ll be able to zero in to the spot! You’re wonderful!

  7. Hey! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this website?
I’m getting fed up of WordPress because I’ve had issues with hackers and I’m looking at options for another platform. I would be fantastic if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
