Soccer is for wimps
At 2 pm today I sat down to watch two sporting events – The final match of the World Cup on TV and the Boston Red Sox vs. the Chicago White Sox on MLB.TV.
My baseball game is tied and they just keep on playing. Six hours later we’re in the 19th inning and still going. The teams are out of pitchers, but they keep playing.
The World Cup game ended after 3 hours of tie game with a penalty kick. Lame! Because one guy kicked a ball into the goal with basically nothing there to stop it another didn’t, that makes one team a the World champions??
Imagine if they did this in baseball – if a game ran more than 11 innings, they’d have a home run derby to determine who wins. That’s just stupid. Tough it up and keep playing.
It seems to me that if soccer has such a problem with games ending up in a stalemate, they should change the game to make it easier to score, not just end the game with some arbitrary kicks. Perhaps after every 10 minutes of overtime, each team has to take another player off the field. Eventually it’ll be just two guys dueling it out with nobody in the goals. Now that would be exciting, unlike the 100 minutes of pointless dribbling I watched today.
Between dribbling, the players practiced their drama skills by wailing on the grass, trying to convince the referee that they were tripped. You don’t have to act like you’re hurt when a baseball hits you in the head at 95 mph. It hurts.

Your points are all valid. The PKs are annoying, but they do involve an incredible amount of skill. Making a PK, or stopping one, is not as easy as the players make it look (France hit the crossbar on one of theirs yesterday, which led to their loss). Anyway, baseball players barely have to run, at least not much more than 90 feet at a time. Running and sprinting while dribbling, passing, defending and shooting, on the length and width of a soccer field for 120 minutes is very hard to do. I’d like to see David Ortiz try it.

100% agreed with Jeff. Yeah it involves physical endurance, but the game itself is lame. I was here watching the penalty kicks in Munnich and couldn’t believe that they didn’t at least put the ball like 100 yards away. Now that would be a fair challenge.
No one really stops the balls intentionally.. the goalie just guesses and often are wrong and they look stupid..

Baseball is boring?
1. Try hitting a ball coming at you over 90mph when the ball could be diving away OR sailing towards your eyes. Even if you guess correctly what type of pitch is coming and make good contact with it, do you have the strength to drive it over 400 feet?
2. Try throwing over 100 pitches in a game. Try to decide if you should throw a fastball, curveball, slider, or change-up. What will be your next pitch if a batter just hit your previous pitch (your best)almost 500 feet? Try ducking out of the way of a line drive coming out to you at the same speed you hurled it in.
3. Try squatting behind the plate catching high speed fastballs or blocking nasty forkballs in the dirt – with a runner on third. Try not getting bowled over by a 6’5″, 225 lb runner whose only intention is to score – no matter what.
4. Try sliding head-first on your belly to beat a throw and risk the injuries that such a play implies.
5. Try crashing against the outfield wall at full running speed to haul in a deep drive – you must do it if you are to prevent a couple of runs from scoring.
6. As the manager, try making a decision as to whether to hit-and-run and risk having your runner caught in a double play.
Need I go on? You still think all there is to baseball is to hit and catch?
Soccer might be more popular but it can NEVER outclass baseball – no way!

If baseball was better than soccer it would be more popular than soccer. But it isn’t. That which is superior is more loved and more popular.

Soccer is not the most watched spectator sport in the world … Formula1 racing is!
Soccer does have a lot of professional drama wimps … watch any game, especially with the Italian teams and you will be graced with many, many instances of drama wimps rolling on the ground holding their faces and wimpering (many whom were never even hit in the face) … do you see any black eyes, any blood drawn?
Watch hockey, football, rugby and see what pain is all about. Do you see any drama wimps in these sports?

Soccer is the lamest game. Yeah, those males are pathetic – they fall down and carry on like 2 year olds when they haven’t even been touched. It’s all a pathetic act. I can’t stand watching it – it’s pissweak. Those egomaniac males are overpaid wankers. And it takes forever to score anything. I’d rather watch paint dry.

I watch both, and i like baseball better but Soccer, is way more physically demanding, and is way more pain full. Imagine a Ball 4x bigger than a baseball, flying at you at 6mph, and it hits you in the face or balls. Imagine, going for a header, and some ass hole decides to do a high kick, and kicks you in the face.
OH and ap. Basketball is worse, the players get touched and its a foul. So fuck you. And also, i would love to se you get you ankle rolled over with out laying down for a few seconds. Again, FUCK YOU.

Soccer does suck right now. PKs are stupid. Tie-breaker wth PKs are stupid. The game sucks in general. The “injuries” are 99% playacting and these pukes would get murdered if they dared play rugby. What is needed to fix it:
1) Walls. No more out of bounds. Same pitch size but walls. Kicking out of bounds results in a penalty kick where an enemy player kicks the loser who kicked it out of bounds in the butt.
2) No more cards. No more injury acting. True aggressive behavior will be dealt with like in hockey which results in a power play.
3) Shot clock. Once you clear into the teams zone, you need to get a shot on goal within a certain time or you have a hockey style face off.

Soccer is THE WORST SPORT EVER! I think I’d rather watch tennis. Baseball, on the other hand, requires a great amount of skill. Given, soccer does require more physical endurance, but all they do is run around on the field like little lawn fairies kicking a ball. A bunch of pussies, that’s what soccer is. Oh, and Caleb, a soccer ball is filled with air, dumbass, a baseball is not. So, all you soccer players and fans can SUCK IT, because your sport SUCKS. If you want to watch a good sport, try baseball, hockey, or football.

The ONLY reason soccer is the most popular sport is because it’s the cheapest. People watch what they relate to. You have a ball, some space, some people, and 2 areas designated as goals and BAM, soccer game. Baseball is much more intricate and cerebral. Soccer is boring as hell. Back and forth back and forth dribbling. Hockey is similar only in hockey it requires much more skill (skating and puck handling) plus those guys are tough.

haha!!!you really cant compare soccer to baseball dude. soccer is way better. its more competitive than baseball. in soccer we don’t have either fat guys nor old guys in the field. and if you’ve noticed in baseball there are usually fat asses on the benches just eating.
and in soccer when a guy is hit in the head with the ball it actually hearts a lot more. one guy actually died in 2008 because he was trying to head the ball, and was pronounced dead the next day.
soccer isn’t that cheap you know. im a chick that plays soccer and i 13. my parents pay $350 a week so that I can be in a soccer team (I swear).
soccer also requires a lot of skill. and there are some soccer players that do fake injuries, I cant lie about that. but its not all of them. for example, cristiano ronaldo fakes all the time (I hate him he’s an asshole, but he is in one of the best teams in Spain, and on of the best players). but then you have good players like Wayne Rooney, he broke his leg on the field while playing and his boot came off but he still ran after the ball, and made a goal ( he is now in Manchester united).
soccer is the most popular sport worldwide because its a competitive sport.
and like some person said in one of the comments, that they roll on the floor like wimps, that may be true BUT they do that because they have serious injuries, your legs is the most used part of your whole body (that’s self explanatory).
it also depends on the leagues that you watch, my opinion is that the Spanish league is the best, and the Mexican league isn’t all that good.

I’m a big fan of soccer, but I have to agree with your critiques.
I’ve been seriously injured on the field a couple of times, and even then I didn’t roll around on the ground like a woman. I’d like a rule where the player is on his feet within 10 seconds or his carcass is dragged off the field and replaced with a substitute.
The PKs are also a very disappointing finish to a world cup. The idea of removing men from the field is intriguing. At the very least they should continue overtime golden goal until someone scores. With two evenly matched teams, PKs are as good as flipping a coin.

Soccer is for wimps? A guy died playing soccer, and is considered more dangerous than baseball.
Baseball is more boring than soccer. Playing the sport and watching it is so much different. Unlike baseball, soccer has almost non-stop action. Hell, it’s even a comedy show because of the acting that some players do. And who the hell watches a game for 6 hours? NO ONE.
But you are right on one thing, the world cup shouldn’t end with PKs, but it shouldn’t end with your idea.
