GPS Coordinate Converter

October 17th, 2003 | Jeff Boulter | General

One thing that’s annoyed me is that there’s no easy way to enter GPS coordinates on the web and get a map or look up other info about those coordinates. There are some conversion utilities out there, but they’re a pain to use, requring a lot of cutting and pasting.

I decided to build a better mousetrap with my own converter and mapper tool.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

    Jeff,

This is exactly what I have been looking for. I think my company would be happy to own a copy of copies of a stand along converter like this.

    Thanks,

    Randy

This is a great tool that you created. If you can get it to work with Map24 that would be really cool.

I like it. Very easy to use and clean. I was using Google maps by centering a location and then using the link to page feature to extract the coordinates then a converter to change them to degrees. Clicking on your Google map is so much simpler. You have earned a free copy of any my cataloging apps. Let me recommend Gamepedia just finishing up the 1.0 release still in Beta 0.9 but looking good. It’s core is based on the more mature brothers at 2.2 version so there nothing to fear from the beta. Like any good looking program it’s just for your Mac, so head on to Bruji.com and drop me an email for a free serial code if you are interested in any of the programs.

  8. marco Says:

i liked what you did there, and because you are expert in this, i would like to ask you, whether you can help me to write a program that records GPS data(longitude and latitude, when a button is pressed a KML-document should be generated that describes the bounding box.
    Thank You !

    hi..
Your work is awesome… u seem to be an expert on this so I guess u like to help strugglers like me… we are suppose to do a conversion from an output taken from a GPS Receiver to (X, Y) coordinates matching to our country in order it to be plotted on a map. Can u please tell a way so that I can implement a converter program for this purpose…
    Thank u…

Very very useful. Thanks a lot!
If it could be used without Java script command, it can easy be used also by most common mobile telephone handsets.
