The Night Has Eyes (Night Cache)

By: Baron88 Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

It was an honor being part of workerofwood's milestone adventure, but it was also a lot of fun finding this night cache. I'm glad I had a backup flashlight, because my main flashlight was malfunctioning (worked when pointed up, but not when pointed anywhere useful). But there were enough other folks with flashlights and headlamps that I easily could have gotten by without one. I was here for the assault on a nearby night cache, but workerofwood, our fearless leader, hadn't arrived yet, so I checked for caches near the parking area where we were meeting. This one was just a hundred feet away, so I wandered over to find it. While I fiddled with my flashlight (which worked when pointed straight up, but not when pointed anywhere useful), some of the others came over and made the find. Mythbusters: Break Out The Guns!

By: PurplePeople Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I was part of the group assault on a nearby night cache that was organized by workerofwood. Little did we know that he organized the trip so the night cache could be a milestone: his 6000th find. Since he had only 5998 finds, he needed one more find first, so we stopped for this one on the way to the start of the night cache. It took us a while, largely because we paid too much attention to the encrypted hint ("Ybbx, n ebhaq ebpx!") and not enough attention to the coordinates, which were actually very good. Downtown Campbell Walking Tour

By: Nazgul Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

This was a fun prelude to the unevent, as a bunch of geocachers wandered around downtown Campbell for almost an hour. Many faces were familiar to me, but others were new. After breakfast with a group of friends, I decided to grab a cache on the way home. This was the nearest unfound cache, so off I went... I paid too much attention to the cache name and fruitlessly checked a nearby location first. Then I checked a few other locations similar to that one, and finally I found the cache in its hiding place. TN, L my trackable sig token, SL. TFTC!

As I was walking to a nearby cache, I thought that this footbridge really deserved a cache. After finding that cache, I checked for other nearby caches and discovered that this footbridge already had a cache. However, actually finding this cache was a challenge. Old Mill Cache

By: Zigity Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

This was at the top of my "nearest to church" list, so I dropped by this afternoon to find it. I remember going to the Old Mill. Actually, the cinema stayed open longer than the rest of the mall, and my wife and I saw a couple movies there before the cinema finally closed too. Anyway, the coordinates were excellent, so I found the cache quickly. There are certainly a lot of possibilities within 10 feet though. The Double Cache of Doubleness

By: GraffnTrix and Dorian Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I dropped by this afternoon to redeem my earlier DNF. When I arrived, willye6 and a couple of his friends had already retrieved the cache. I loaned him a pen so he could sign the log, and then they replaced the cache right where the hint in the first "brother" said it belonged. Some experimentation revealed that the first tool I had tried might have retrieved the cache with some difficulty, that the second tool I had tried wouldn't work at all, and that a third tool (which I hadn't had with me last time) retrieved the cache easily. I left my trackable sig token for this nano-cache with willye6. TNLNSL. Thanks for placing this creative multi-cache, and TFTC!

The Double Cache of Doubleness

By: GraffnTrix and Dorian Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

This cache was on my "nearest to church" list and sounded interesting, so I dropped by to find it. I didn't find the first "brother", but I spotted a location where I thought the second "brother" might be hiding. Unfortunately, the tool I had available could not retrieve the second "brother", but using it, I thought I could detect the second "brother" in its hiding place. I returned shortly with a different tool, but when I tried to use it to retrieve the second "brother", I came up empty. I searched for the first "brother" some more, and then decrypted the hint automatically on my mobile device (despite the CO's attempt to thwart automatic decryption). I then foun d the first "brother" quickly and read the the hint inside, which confirmed that I was searching for the second "brother" in the correct location, but indicated a different type of container than I was expecting. Unfortunately, I found no sign of the type of container indicated by the hint inside th e first "brother".

The CO should probably check on the second "brother".

Blur

By: Shroomie Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

There was another Shroomie hide at the top of my "nearest to church" list, so how could I resist dropping by this afternoon? After checking the obvious and suspicious pile, I expanded my search radius and found several other spots that were more typical of Shroomie's style. Unfortunately, the cache wasn't in any of them. Then Shroomie himself showed up to check on the cache, and we introduced ourselves. We interrupted our conversation so I could find the cache (guided by a few "you're getting warmer" hints). I spotted the camouflaged cache not far from where I'd been searching before the owner arrived. I gave my trackable sig token for this nano-cache to the owner before we parted ways. TNLNSL. Thanks for the conversation, and TFTC!

This weekend, I came to Lake Del Valle on a camping trip with a group of fathers and sons from PBC CSB. This morning, we went hiking. I was bringing up the rear, and by the time I reached GZ, most of the group was already at the bottom of the nearby hill, and didn't want to climb back up for this cache. After searching unsuccessfully, I read a few past logs, reread the cache name, and looked around. Then I found the cache quickly by expanding my search radius quite a bit. I was going to post better coordinates, but when I checked my GPS receivers, they were getting the same coordinates at the cache location as they were getting about 50' south of the cache location. While Mrs. niraD was busy at the Crowne Plaza with the CCB convention, I strolled around the area to grab a couple caches. The nearby virtual was easy and quick. This micro was much harder and slower. After searching for an hour, I rethought something that I had noticed very early in my search. I was able to use one of the tools I brought with me to verify that I had indeed found the location of the cache earlier. It was more than "just" out of reach, and I didn't spot any little trick to make it slightly less evil. But I was able to improvise the necessary tools to retrieve the cache from materials available at the site and things I had with me. FWGB. Three Dancing Maidens

While Mrs. niraD was busy at the Crowne Plaza with the CCB convention, I decided to drop by for this virtual cache. I never would have found this sculpture without this virtual cache to point it out. Thanks for detailing its history. I'll keep my trackable sig token for this virtual cache moving. FWGB, TFTC!

Twisted By Design : Part 2

By: atomsoup Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I thought I might have better luck this morning, during the daylight. Alas, I still saw no clowns, no clown car, and no cache. Before I return, I'll have to figure out where else it might be. Just searching all the same locations again wouldn't make any sense. DNFWGB.

Twisted By Design : Part 2

By: atomsoup Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I dropped by on my way home from the closing night of "Fiddler" at The King's Academy. Unfortunately, no clowns or clown cars appeared, and I couldn't spot the cache on my own tonight. DNFWGB.

Permanente Creek

Wow. It's amazing how effective such simple camouflage can be. I was searching for something much more devious until I read the past logs. Then I stepped back, looked around, and spotted something interesting. Very nice. FWGB. I'll keep my trackable sig token for this nano-cache moving. TFTC.

I arrived early for the closing night of "Fiddler" at The King's Academy, and noticed that this cache was nearby. I found it quickly, and had plenty of time to take my seat before curtain. There was no stash note, so I left a waterproof one. FWGB. TN, L my trackable sig tokens, SL. TFTC.

Marymeade Park - Notso Lame

By: The Petoskey Stones Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

After donating blood, I stopped by this pleasant little park to search for its "not so lame" cache. So I searched. And I searched. And I read the hint and the past logs. And I searched. And finally I expanded my search radius and quickly spotted it. Still, this is a nicely camouflaged cache. FWGB. Lizards Lair

By: Baron88 Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I noticed this letterbox hybrid after DNFing a nearby cache, and decided give it a try. I ended up over-thinking the pillars and the metal disk, more than doubling the length of my hike. At least it was a beautiful day in the baylands. While recording my DNF, I noticed the hint. On the way back to my vehicle, I passed the object referred to by the hint and realized my mistake. I found the cache quickly after that. FWGB. Gjetost

By: Shroomie Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Hmm... Why is this Shroomie hide different from all other Shroomie hides? Why does it have a "Somewhat evil" warning, when none of the others do? [;)] I like this cache a lot better than the previous one I found in this corner of the park. It should certainly last longer. I don't know that I would have been able to find this one without previous experience with several "Somewhere..." caches, other Shroomie caches, and other "evil" hides. (It might be good to let seekers know that they won't need to disassemble anything to find this cache.) The Unclaimed Lane

I dropped by this morning and found the cache rather quickly. The cache itself is not waterproof, and the plastic bag it's in no longer keeps the water out. SMILIE Thanks for the checksum. It took a couple tries before I got DE right. I was one of the people who grabbed this one after the Team Checkers' First 10K event. I need to figure out a better way to do paperless multi-caches, because reading the cache description on the same device that I'm using to record the coordinates of the next stage is awkward. Still, it was an easy find since WalruZ was holding the container when we reached GZ. :) TN, L my trackable sig token, SL. FWGB. TFTC!
