Another Box to Open

By: mrstrix Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

While solving Fresno puzzle caches prior to my trip this weekend with Mrs. niraD, I discovered this on-site puzzle cache. I dropped by this afternoon to find and solve it. The box is still in pretty good shape, considering how long it's been out here, and it was a pleasure to discover the tricks it concealed. FWGB. Skylights Along Stevens Creek Trail

By: GoGoJo Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

[I happened to be in the area this morning, and had about an hour for an attempt at redeeming this DNF. I was almost out of time when I finally found it. Very nicely done! The camouflage is definitely evil (but in a good way), and may deserve a full 3 stars. The last time I was here, I had it in my hand and didn't recognize it for what it was. The hints seem a bit misleading though. While I could see it from the trail, and while it is within 5' horizontal distance of the asphalt trail,] it is further than 5' from the trail surface, and I had to place one foot upslope from the trail to reach the cache. Shorter geocachers may need to place both feet upslope. [I repaired the nearby woodchip slides. I will keep my trackable sig token for this nano-cache moving. I dropped by to find this one, and then rode my bike along the Stevens Creek Trail to get to work. Once I stopped looking for the kind of hide that I "knew" would be here, I found it quickly, since I've found several others just like this one. But I spent quite a bit of time looking for something else entirely. By: wildbun Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

After returning from a company picnic in Santa Cruz, I walked over to grab this one. I had the place to myself, and found it quickly, exactly where I thought it might be (but was unable to search) when I was here before. A Hard One

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

I was in Santa Cruz for a company picnic, and spent the afternoon finding the caches for a few of 50sumtin's puzzles. I actually solved them all a year ago, in preparation for last year's company picnic. This was the first of four. I recognized the theme of the puzzle immediately, so I was able to solve it quickly. Knowing the theme of the puzzle, I found the cache quickly too, although I did walk past it initially. I'm not used to the way a real GPSr lets you overshoot GZ. TNLNSL. I'll keep my trackable sig token for this nano-cache moving.

Where's the * & %$#@! cache?

By: that * & %$#@! 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

I was in Santa Cruz for a company picnic, and spent the afternoon finding the caches for a few of 50sumtin's puzzles. I actually solved them all a year ago, in preparation for last year's company picnic. This was the second of four. I recognized the theme of this one immediately, and solved it in seconds. Finding the cache took much, much longer, however. After far too long, I finally contracted my search radius and returned to GZ, trusted the terrain rating of the cache, and found the well-hidden container in one of the firs t places I had searched: obviously, I had not searched it thoroughly enough. By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I was in Santa Cruz for a company picnic, and spent the afternoon finding the caches for a few of 50sumtin's puzzles. I actually solved them all a year ago, in preparation for last year's company picnic. This was the last of four. This was the first nonogram I solved, although before finding the cache for this one, I solved and found another one that's closer to home. It's an interesting type of puzzle, although I'm sure they're easier to solve when you know the solution will contain coordinates. Duck Duck Google

By: wildbun Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I can see the cache site from my office, so I figured it was time for me to drop by. I saw a rabbit (or maybe it was a hare), but no ducks or geese. I'm pretty sure I know where the cache is, but I wasn't able to check there since a muggle had settled nearby and he didn't look like he'd be leaving anytime soon. I'll be back.

Silly me... I did a bit of research to figure out which of WeBeDnD's POP caches inspired this one. First, I had to remind myself how I'd solved that puzzle. Then, I had to forget that technique because this one was completely different. Today, at the cache site, I found the cache quickly. One Life To Live

By: Spyder Woman Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I started off following clues that led me in the wrong direction. I now understand how most of them were intended as hints, but they sure seemed like red herrings at the time. Eventually I connected a couple of the other clues that hadn't seemed to fit, and I remembered that Gitonyerhorse had solved it easily. I had the solution shortly thereafter. Today, at the cache site, the hide seemed rather daunting. Then I reread the description. The size and terrain narrowed the search significantly. Historical Stanford

By: Rain734 Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I was here shortly after the cache was published, back when my find count was in double digits. I found nothing, but apparently I didn't post a DNF, probably because I was inexperienced, and uncertain about my ability to find GZ without a GPSr. Now, about 3 years later, I was in the area and decided to drop by to redeem my DNF. I found it quickly. This is an interesting bit of Stanford history. Even with the years I spent at Stanford (as a student, and then as the fiancÚ/husband of a student), I had no idea this was here. Somewhere Along the Secret Pathway

By: catomcat Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

This is starting to become a habit... Tonight, I was in the area with some time to do some geocaching, and this "Somewhere" cache appeared at the top of the list of nearby caches. How could I resist? I spent a few minutes eliminating the obvious hiding places, and then started thinking about where a cache worthy of this series could be hidden. Yep, there it was. Very nicely done. Somewhere in San Jose

By: catomcat Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Tonight, I was in the area with some time for caching, so I looked up nearby caches. This "Somewhere" cache near the top of the list caught my eye. Shortly after I arrived, a bus came and the muggles left. I quickly eliminated the obvious hide styles for locations like this, and started considering more "evil" hide styles. I still hadn't found it before muggles started gathering again, so I suspended my search and read the past Found logs. That convinced me that my latest idea about the cache type was correct, and that even so it would still be challenging. A second bus arrived, the muggles left, and I resumed my search. Using the "Flashlight" program on my phone and throwing subtlety to the wind, I finally saw the cache. Yep, just what I thought it would be. Yep, still very hard to spot. TNLNSL. My trackable sig token for this cache would not fit, so I'll keep it moving. Thanks for the challenge, and TFTC!

Pie Filling

By: cachbefound Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I used to make my own pie crust mix and store it in our freezer. With our food processor, making big batches of the mix was easy. To make a pie crust, I'd just stir some ice water into a cup of mix, and then roll out the dough. Making a perfect pie crust was quick and easy. But then you need to do something with the crust, right? There are so many possibilities. I enjoy pies that combine two fruits, like strawberry-gooseberry pie, pear-apple pie, strawberry-banana pie, or apple-cranberry pie. The crust was the easy part. What remains after you've got the crust, that' s what makes all the difference.

Tonight, I was in the area running an errand, and dropped by to make the find. I started expanding my search radius. After reading the hint, I returned to ground zero, where I found the well-hidden cache after a bit more searching. There was no room for my trackable sig token for this cache, so I'll keep it moving. TNLNSL. Thanks for an excellent puzzle, and TFTC!
