Who Is This?

By: dw Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

This one has been on my "nearest to home" list for far too long, and I pass the location every weekday on my way to work. This morning, I finally stopped for it before work. Like others, I've passed within feet of the plaque at the posted coordinates many times, but I never noticed it until now. Thanks for pointing it out. Go Fish

By: PrincessIchi Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

I loved this one! I found stage 1 quickly in the obvious spot, once the waiting muggles departed. As I approached the location for stage 2, I knew exactly where it was. Still, it took a few tries to get it. There was no stash note, so I left a waterproof one. I made this one much harder than it needed to be. But eventually I reread the description (small, not micro, not Truly Evil ? nano), read the hint, expanded my search radius, and found the cache. I like the camouflage, BTW. And the "specimen" was pretty cool, too. TN, L my trackable sig token, SL. TFTC!

Dislocater, Jr.

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I guess I just wasn't meant to find this one this morning. First, I miscounted the letters in a word and ended up almost on top of another cache, with the GPSr pointing well over "a foot or so off the path".

So I returned to the information panel, found my error, and set off for the new coordinates. That seemed like a much more logical place, but I came up empty. I returned to the information panel again to recheck my answers, didn't find any more errors, and returned to sea rch my second location again. Still nothing. Now that I'm logging it, it seems that I was working from old data. [:(] I hate it when that happens. Still, it was a pleasant morning to ride along the baylands...

Electric Lizard

By: oneangrypuppy and frivlas Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I had a pretty good idea how the cache would be hidden, and I was right. But first I found a CITO opportunity hidden in that manner [:O], and then a utility worker came over and asked me if I was looking for one of those "geocache things". Apparently, he has discovered a few of them during his work. And apparently, I am not as stealthy as I thought. Anyway, I then found the cache without much more trouble. It is very nicely constructed! I will keep my trackable sig token for this nano-cache moving. TNLNSL, TFTC!

I was in the area, so I dropped by for this one before work. My wife and I used to live in Escondido Village. Anyway, the container is no longer waterproof, and should be replaced. Somewhere in the Baylands

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

This was a quick find, in the first place I searched. Okay, so I didn't find it the first time I looked there, but it didn't take me long to search that place again, more carefully and more successfully. This is a very nice "somewhere" cache, and today was a beautiful morning in the baylands before work. I'll keep my trackable sig token for this nano-cache moving. By: virtualdavid Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

After finding a couple nearby caches, I revisited this one to drop off the To Palo Alto, CA 1 TB. While I was here, I traded some stickers for the CasinoCanines sig token.

Rosie's Coloring Cache

By: Rosie the Kitten & her Dad Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

This was a fun one. I was at the park for a group BBQ, and decided to grab this cache while waiting for the party to get going. Someone had written the word "ZOOM" next to a picture of a rocket ship, so I drew a picture of someone I know, for whom the word "ZOOM" is also appropriate. By: gashog Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

My second FTF! This one showed up on my "nearest to church" list last night, so I dropped by this morning shortly after dawn (when the park opened). Rocket Girl and I approached GZ together, and then searched for the cache independently. Clearly, we had both read the hint. SMILIE Eventually, I rechecked a spot tha t we had both examined previously and came up with the find.

The previous cache in this corner of the park was more fun, but this one is much less likely to be muggled. TN, L CA wooden nickle WN52928 and my trackable sig token, SL. Thanks for the FTF and TFTC!

Venonium 263

By: workerofwood & fizzymagic Difficulty: 5.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

This was the primary goal for tonight's caching trip, and it was well worth it. Dowbiggin arranged the trip, and DuckeyLee, SCOTUS, Gitonyerhorse, and I joined in. My wife (an avowed muggle) was also with us, and BritishInvasion (who had already found this one) showed up to watch the show. Before meeting up with the rest, I thoroughly overanalyzed the cryptic parts of the cac he description, while completely ignoring the obvious reference to the posted coordinates.

Each stage was different, creative, and fun, and the final was excellent! So many little details went into this adventure, but you should discover them on your own rather than read spoilers here. Battles of the Arachnoids

By: adeshais Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

A few days ago, I dropped by Stage 1 again. If I had taken more thorough notes when I was here a year ago for another multi-cache, then I could have gone straight to Stage 2. With that in mind, I decided to Google the information needed for the Stage 3 coordinates. Fortunately, I decided to drop by Stage 2 anyway ("just for verification"), because the info I Googled was wrong. With the correct coordinates, I set off for Stage 3. I wasn't very surprised when I reached G Z.

Given the proximity of many muggles, I decided to use the hint right away. That redirected me away from a couple incorrect options, but ended up distracting me some because the hide location no longer quite matches the hint. I couldn't figure out how to hide the cache where it would match the hi nt, so I replaced it where I found it.

ANX: The Angle of Eternity

By: workerofwood Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

This was my 500th find, and my 100th puzzle/mystery find. Thanks for the adventure, workerofwood! Gitonyerhorse, SkaterUncle, and I met at stage 1 this morning, shortly after workerofwood had repaired it for us. Unfortunately, stage 1 needs to be repaired again, so the cache is going to stay disabled for a while longer. [:(]

We worked through stage 1 while workerofwood watched, and eventually the three of us settled on a plan and set off on our own. At stage 2, we were just starting to question whether we had the correct location when one of us noticed something. We were off to stage 3 shortly thereafter, and to stage 4 shortly after that.

Stage 4 was probably my favorite, and not just because I was the one who found it. It was a joy to hold such a well-designed "game piece" in my hands.

Stage 5 was rather exposed when we arrived. Once we read all the instructions there, we set about determining the location of the cache. That was fun in itself, and then we retrieved the cache m oments later.

We covered stage 5 a bit better than we found it, but we encountered an odd situation while replacing it. I've emailed the details to workerofwood.

PH0NY II

By: WeBeDnD (with help from Ceara) Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I missed the full experience when I found this one last week, so I decided to try it again. I had a lot of difficulty with the first PH0NY clue this time. First, I swapped two digits in my coordinates; naturally, I found nothing PH0NY there. I found and fixed that error, but there was nothing PH0NY about the new location either. I checked with the owner, who pointed out where my coordina tes from the first PH0NY clue were wrong.

This morning I dropped by the correct coordinates, quickly found a PH0NY location with another PH0NY clue, and got the coordinates for the PH0NY cache (which I already had from finding it last week).

This was a fun puzzle, and it certainly presented a kind of challenge that I don't experience often. Thanks!

By: rjb2001, BiggggAl, and friends of DMB Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I happened to be in the area, so I dropped by to check on this cache. It wasn't where I found it back in September, but the plants here have taken a lot of abuse, and the original location would have been quite exposed. I moved the attachment mechanism to where I found the cache this time, to help secure it a bit. The current location is better, but it's still easy to see from certain angles, since it isn't camouflaged at all. I left a waterproof stash note and log sheet. I also added a handful of seashells to the two DMB pencils.

I'm not sure this location can support this large a container. It is by necessity very close to a lot of foot/bicycle traffic. Some camouflage might help, or it might accelerate the damage to the nearby plants.

Going in Circles 2

By: Rogue Ramblers Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

The Five Senses: HEARING

By: crawburr Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I enjoyed this 6th find in your 5 senses series, which I've completed 4 now. I found 3 of them yesterday, and managed 2 complete the series 1 week after I started. SMILIE I found the cache first, and then the source of the "audible clue" (which wasn't very audible on this quiet morning). The container was visible, so I rehid it better than I found it, so it wasn't visible. The inside was wet; I dried it as best I could, but it's still damp. The Five Senses: TASTE

By: crawburr Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Picking a single favorite food is tough, but I'll go with mince pie because it's one I look forward to every year as the holiday season approaches. Marie Callender's usually starts serving it in November, and stops serving it after Christmas. It's warm and sweet and spicy (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, etc., not the kind measured on the Scoville scale), with a flakey crust and warm, rich butter-rum sauce on the side. After dropping by Stage 1 of the multi-cache that heads my "nearest to home" list, I decided to grab a couple local puzzle caches. This was one of them. I started this adventure some time ago, working through the steps to get my final coordinates. I made a mistake at step 3 (from reading the logs, it was the same mistake others have made), but I figured it out on my own because my cache location and parking location didn't make sense. Today I drop ped by and discovered that my adventure wasn't over. I was pretty sure I knew where the clue for the last step would be (and it turns out I was right), but I didn't have access to it at the time. Interesting puzzle. I dropped by last night but didn't find the cache. Actually, I didn't drop by HERE last night, which was the whole problem. I made a slight error (transcription, not math or chemistry) in one of the digits of my solution and ended up somewhere else. (Checksum? Oh, yeah, right...)
