All Alone Here

By: caskethead & vcgirl Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

This trail really winds around. You just have to be patient and it eventually goes by the cache. The cache was almost buried in leaves. Just enough of it was exposed for me to spot it. Thanks!

Don't Stop Believin'

By: DarkJourney and Perry's Pie Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

Today was a clear day, and there was a spectacular view. Thanks!

Trailside Hanger

By: Soquel1930 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

This was my second cache of the morning. I decided to head out toward the ocean first, then would head up a trail on the other side of Highway 1 later. I signed the log in the last blank spot. This cache could use a new log. Thanks!

Beth, I Hear You Callin'

By: RockZen and KISSin' Cow Pie Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

Well, no Beth wasn't calling. I checked my phone for any desperate messages since her yarn shop was having a big sale today. No messages. Thanks!

The back forty.

By: Soquel1930 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

The angle of the morning sunlight was doing me no favors, but the coordinates were good and a little looking soon yielded the cache. Thanks!

Posted

By: Soquel1930 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

This cache was nearest to where I parked at Wilder State Park, and I found it just after 8 am. Today was a big sale day at my wife's yarn shop so I had a free day, with no one to supervise. I wanted to go for at least a half-day hike, and this spot along the coast was a good choice. The weather was perfect, the sky was blue, and the ocean was calm. An older guy on a bike passed me and said "another day in paradise!"

I'll Say Goodbye to Love

By: ZenPeloso and Carpenter Cow Pie Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Micro

This was a quick find, sign, and I was on my way. I appreciate a few straight-forward caches when I am out for a long hike. Thanks!

Steven's Bday Cache

By: DarkZen and Beautiful Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

This was a little off my planned loop route, but it looked like I would have plenty of time. My legs just needed to hold out. Thanks!

I'm As Free As A Bird Now

By: DarkRockStar and Evil GrouPie Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

I have my hiking sticks to keep me upright in steep situations, but slipperiness of the ground surprised me and I ended up on my butt. No harm done and I soon spied the hiding spot. Thanks!

Weathertop

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

My GPSr batteries gave out just before I reached the cache, but I continued and found the cache with no problem. I dug a couple new batteries from my pack, and I was soon in business for the next one. Thanks!

At the Foot Of The Stairs

By: DragonsWest Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

I usually don't like to spend much time searching when I am out for a long hike. I read the previous finder's log, and it inspired me to have that one more look. The cache had a bottle of bubble making liquid in it with a cap that was not screwed on well. The log and other cache contents were soaked, probably from the bubble bottle. I managed to sign the waterlogged cache. Thanks!

Wilder Oaks

By: caskethead & vcgirl Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

I read the cache name and from the trail, I spotted the area where the cache must be. No problems spotting it. It must be my lucky day. Thanks!

Monterey: so close, yet so far

By: Soquel1930 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I was surprised by how many runners were out on the trail this morning. If I lived nearby, it would certainly be a favorite area for me to bike and hike. Good coordinates. Thanks!

Wilder Overlook and Benchmark

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Just as I was examining the benchmark, three cyclists pulled up to the picnic table for a break and some pictures. I waited them out, then paced the distance to the cache. Thanks!

Disingenuous Toad

By: Evil LOLFrog Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

The hint is incorrect in one respect, but the coordinates are perfect. I turned around here and headed back up the hill.

Bobtail Bobcat

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

I saw a couple bunnies, a hawk, an egret, some quail, and a couple brown pelicans on my hike today. Thanks!

Just Another Nano in the Woods

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

Wow, this really was a nano in the woods. I was quite findable, even in the early morning dim light, given the excellent hint. Thanks!

A Hidden Cache Gathers No Moss

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

The cache was well concealed from above. I left the cache as I found it. Thanks!

Watch Your Step

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I was hurrying along, worried about the coming rain, but the sprinkles were actually getting lighter. I went straight for the hint and grabbed this one quickly. Thanks!

Lake Trail #1: Trailhead and Parking

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I hiked here, but I may want to park here for future caches. It looks like good parking for two vehicles. Thanks!

High and Dry in Portola Valley

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

This took a few minutes, but it soon revealed itself. Thanks!

The Soggy Trail Cache

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

It didn't seem like there were many spots for a cache here, but I felt around and came up with it. Thanks!

Stick To The Trail

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I also had to wander a bit up and down the trail, and didn't spot anything right away. Finally I saw something that I had seen earlier in the hike. Thanks!

The Widowmaker

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

A study of the ground paid off and I found something that just didn't belong. Thanks!

Tree House

By: The G Family Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Cool little nook. I see from the log that some non-cachers have stopped by. Thanks!

Lake Trail #2

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I saw where I didn't want to search, so I read the hint to make sure. The cache was an easy grab after I knew what I was looking for. Thanks!

Almost A Dish View

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

A lot of the special camo seemed to have broken off. I gathered it up so that the next cacher would have an easier time of spotting the cache. Thanks!

The Los Trancos Woods Marching Band

By: crawburr Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I hiked here from Alpine & Willowbrook, and decided to pop out onto the streets and grab a couple. It is hard to believe that such a band would spring from such a neighborhood. Thanks!

Lake Trail #3

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I gave some thought to getting these caches later and parking along Alpine below, but decided it would be quicker just to hike down the hill and back up. Thanks!

Almost At The End

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

This is another find by feel rather that find by eye kind of cache. Thanks!

Coalmine Ridge Trails Trailhead

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

This was my every-other-Friday off, and I was determined to get in a hike. The weather report said that showers would turn into rain by noon, so I got out here early. I parked about 6:40 am and the sprinkles immediately started. I put on my rain jacket and headed out. I was in a hurry, so I just read the hint and grabbed the cache. I was glad I did a little reading about the caches last night and brought along some tweezers. Thanks! This entry was edited by bytemobile on Sunday, 18 November 2012 at 17:16:52 UTC.

Hanging Out At The Lake

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I said hello to a lady and her dog who were just setting out on a little hike after parking at the trailhead. I waited a bit, then went for the cache. Thanks!

Alas, Alpine!

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Well, I was saying yippee! since I didn't get wet on my hike, and I was almost back to my car. Thanks!

A Cache With A View

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

The views were strictly limited by the low clouds, but the sprinkles had stopped for now. Thanks!

Cachin' On The Toyon!

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I got here about 8 am, and it was shaping up to be an OK day for hiking. No sunblock needed! Thanks!

White Above The Trail

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

The cache title zeroed me in on the right spot, but I didn't spot the cache immediately. I looked a second time and had success! Thanks!

Windy Hill View 2

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I found this just after 7 am with a few sprinkles coming down. I was surprised that more that one group of joggers had already passed by me. Thanks!

Windy Hill View

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I came out the Bay Laurel Trail. The cache near the trailhead didn't seem to be exactly at the trailhead, so I came down here. Ah, there is another trail up the hill a little ways. I spotted the cache after reading the hint and looking for a couple minutes. Thanks!

Summer snowman

By: Revolution9, 80toy Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I was pedaling around on my bike and stopped at the fountain to read about the cache. I saw from my GPSr that I had passed right by the cache. I pedaled back there, and had the cache in hand soon after. Thanks!

The Little Library

By: Galileo the cat Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Does the hint mean the left direction when you are sitting down, or approaching the cache? I now know the answer. Thanks!

Bush Meets Fence

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

Good cache title, and a quick find. Thanks!

Hanging Out Between Switchbacks

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

Boy, I'm getting good at these. I stuck in my finger, pulled out the log, signed, replaced, and I was on my way. Thanks!

Foot of the Mossy Dead

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

This is my kind of trail -- FLAT!. Thanks!

Geokashers' Quarter Century Cache

By: zeppelin_fan Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

This trail intersection looked familiar. I believe I found a cache around here a few years ago. No problem finding this one without the hint. Thanks!

Oak at the End of the Arm

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

Not your typical hide, but easy enough. Thanks!

Cottle Trail Hanger

By: CissyPSP Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

After hiking out to the dam and back, this was my first cache on the Cottle Trail. Thanks!

Just Hanging Out Along Figueroa

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

I took the day off work as comp time for working my off day last week. It turned out to be a good hiking day. It was partly cloudy and a little damp from the rain last night, but otherwise great. Thanks!

Mossy-Based 6-Trunk

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

The weather and woods had done a nice camo job, but the hint was specific. Thanks!

Rock Crack Cache

By: CissyPSP Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

I made quick work of this one, and got on with the business of hiking. Thanks!

Peaceful

By: sammydee Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

It was nothing but quiet and peaceful this morning. I heard a few birds, but other than that, it was dead quiet. I saw no one else on the trails today, and no one on the reservoir. Thanks!

Strange Trees

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

I second RKOwen's log. I needlessly examined the strange trees, but spotted the hide from afar. Thanks!

Rotting Log Remnant

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

I initially stepped over the cache, focusing on a more likely hiding spot, but I eventually read the cache title, looked around, and came up the cache. I used my hiking poles to check for snakes first. Thanks!

End Here Or Not

By: RKOwen Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Micro

I turned around here, and started in on my lunch as I hiked along -- a trail mix bar and a little bag of cashews. Thanks!

Dam!

By: Geokashers Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

It turned out to be a fine hiking day, even though the weather report looked iffy last night. I saw no one on the reservoir or trails today. I wandered around a bit looking for the cache. The hint was not specific, the cache was in a location that did not draw attention, but the coordinates were right on. Thanks!

Cherry Cove Trail Hanger

By: CissyBrazil Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Micro

The No Swimming sign was being strictly enforced by the solid ground all around. It is hard to imagine that water would reach the sign, even if the water were at the top of the dam. Thanks!

Between Trails Overlook

By: Geokashers and KrazyMonky Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

I wandered around a bit looking for the right crack. I finally spotted a suspicious pile and dug in. Thanks!

Big Shady Oak Along Javalina

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

Shade was not an issue today, with big fluffy clouds sailing overhead and cool weather. Thanks!

Canada Del Oro Trail Switchbacks

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

Well, hiking down them is not so bad. I did my uphill on the other side of the hill. Thanks!

You Missed the Turn!

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

The day was young and my legs were functional, so I decided to head out along the reservoir. Thanks!

6 Trunks & A Dead One

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

I spotted the location as advertised, but initially didn't see a cache there. A closer inspection revealed the hiding spot. Thanks!

Hiding In Plain Site

By: CissyPSP Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

This was just a few hundred feet off of my route. Unfortunately it was uphill too, but I decided the day was young and my legs were somewhat fresh. Thanks!

They Were Giants

By: RKOwen Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

I had a good view of some construction workers at the far end of the dam. I wonder what they were working on. They took off for lunch and I took off for the next cache. Thanks!

A PO-Free Rock Along Cottle?

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

There were lots of rocks to examine for the desired characteristic. Unfortunately, I started on the wrong side, but I eventually got there. Thanks!

Play "Fore" Some More

By: sammydee Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I planned my comp time for today, but the weather report didn't look so good last night. I went ahead and came down here today. There was a little moisture from last night's rain, but otherwise it was a great day for hiking. This was my first cache. Thanks!

A Break in the Fence

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

Nice logical hide, and a short break for the long hike up. Thanks!

Really Gnarly Stump Cache

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

I was concentrating on my hiking and initially passed this by about 100 feet. Thanks!

Serenity

By: DragonsWest Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

I just came from Peaceful, and it was quite serene here. I saw no one on the trails or reservoir today. Thanks!

Just A Shell of the Log It Once Was

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

In my enthusiasm, I again passed by the cache, but I soon read about it and homed in on it. Thanks!

2 Trees and a Stump

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

Found the location exactly as advertised. This was my last cache of the day. Thanks!

Baby Tree Mouth

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

An upright stick drew my attention to the right mouth. Thanks!

Oak Clinger Along Bald Peaks

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Micro

I remember hiking along here a few years ago. It's nice to have a reason to revisit these trails. Thanks!

3534

By: CissyBrazil Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

I gambled on the weather, and it turned out to be a great hiking day. I didn't see anyone on the trails all day. Thanks!

Nov 4, 2012

Snow Tree

By: CissyPSP Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Amazingly hot and clear day for November. I purposely hiked in other parks in the summer, but today sure seemed like summer to me. Thanks!

Oak Clinger Along Los Cerritos

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

I hadn't been to Calero for a while. The high density cache density encouraged me to give it a go today. Thanks!

The Ultimate Tree Hugger

By: Euell Gibbons Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I don't remember too much about Euell, but I do eat Grape Nuts almost every morning. Thanks!

Peeping Cache

By: No PO Cissy Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

This was as far as I went along Pena Trail. I turned around here and headed down Los Cerritos. Thanks!

Lake View Rock

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I checked out a few spots before finding the right one, but it's easy to spot if the right place is found. Thanks!

Welcome to Calero

By: sammydee Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I got all my chores done and headed out for an afternoon hike at Calero. It was clear and hot today, so I made sure to apply sunscreen. This was my first stop. Thanks!

Owl-Eyed Oak?

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

Nope. I have no imagination. I didn't see the picture of the tree until I was home, logging caches. Thanks!

Hanging Out at the Old Gate

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

I was out for a Sunday afternoon hike and a little caching. Excellent coordinates. Thanks!

Pena Trail Cache

By: CissyPSP Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

I had my hiking sticks, so I was able to power up the hills with the help of my arms. Compared to Henry Coe, the uphills don't last that long. Thanks!

Hidden Lookout

By: RKOwen Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

With the hint, this hide is pretty straightforward for a geocacher. For a non-cacher it is well hidden. Thanks!

Hang 'em High

By: CissyPSP Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I don't think I have ever met so many people riding horses in this park. This was evidently a good day for riding. Thanks!

Horses Roam No More

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I could see a red sign on the gate down the trail, so I didn't bother hiking down to see it. Thanks!

Junction Post

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I skipped this on the way in since a group riding horses was coming up behind me. Now it was easy to look around. Thanks!

Simply Ammo Can

By: CissyPSP Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

Nice to see a full size cache out here. Lots of goodies in the cache. Thanks!

Hang Man

By: Executioner Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

Well, spotting this type of cache is always easier from the other side. Thanks!

Calero Wall

By: STP Ron Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I made a quick stop along the entrance road on my way out of Calero. Thanks!

Lost Turtles

By: 5thEarth Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

The box is quite easy to spot, but I guess mostly geocachers get up where they can see it. Thanks!

Where Is It?

By: CissyPSP Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

I spotted a couple of coyotes trotting up the trail toward me. I got out my camera as they detoured off the trail around me, but I botched the picture. They got back on the trail after they had bypassed me, and continued on their way. This was in the middle of the afternoon. No problem spotting the cache. Thanks!

The Magnificent Other Half Dome

By: Balthazar 'DragonsWest' Muir Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Not chosen

I'm sure it took some effort to install Half Dome out here. Thanks!

Sans Gold

By: baldmonk Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

I was out for a bike ride and had a look for this one. No problem. Thanks!

Triangle Travels

By: Alex and Pica Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

This one is close enough that I have walked by here. Today, I was out for a bike ride and decided to have a look. Success! Thanks!

dont forget to log this one

By: RED OCT & TJDavis Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

I headed out for a little bike ride this afternoon and grabbed a few of the closest. No problem spotting this one from the sidewalk. Thanks!

Manzanita Decon

By: Gimpy Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

I was listening to an audio book, so I probably wasn't putting my full attention on finding the cache. I wandered a bit, then spotted it when I got to the right place. Thanks!

Will We Ever Know The Answer?

By: CissyPSP Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

Neat little plaque! I made this my turn-around point and headed back down the switchbacks after finding the cache. Thanks!

Live Backwards

By: CissyPSP Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

I don't think I've ever found a cache quite like this. It could have been really difficult. Thanks!

Familiar Trailhead

By: Alistaircookie Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I didn't get around to planning a hike until late this morning. The hike I wanted to do was not too far from home and not that taxing since I was still recovering from a cold. I parked near this cache, made it my first, and set off on a little hike. Thanks!

Live Backwards 2

By: CissyPSP Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Found this one without too much difficulty on my little hike this afternoon. Thanks!

Surprise!

By: CissyPSP Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I skipped this on the way out because a jogger was going to be coming up on me soon. I did spot the cache, and planned to pick it up on the way back. It was a surprise, and I couldn't figure out where the log was for a few minutes. I opened up the cache a second time and figured out where the log would be. Thanks!

Can't See The Forest For The Trees

By: CissyPSP Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I don't know what a normal flow for this creek looks like, but it was really rushing today. I spotted a few sticks a lot of leaves in a pile, and dug out the cache. Thanks!

blinker at the drive in

By: TJDavis Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

People were starting to line up for dinner, so I wasn't planning a long search. Fortunately, I spotted it right after dismounting from by bike and it was no problem at all. Our daughter-in-law stopped here last week and brought us a nice dinner. Thanks!

CKayak's TB Hotel #2

By: CKayaks & Ms Tammy Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

A few years ago, I stopped by the CO's house, chatted with him, logged the cache at his house, and logged his TB vehicle. I believe that was in Santa Clara and I lived in Saratoga. Today, I live about a mile away and came by on my bike. No problem locating the cache. I didn't leave or pickup any travel bugs, but I will keep this resource in mind. Thanks!

Off With Their Heads

This seemed to be an odd placement, but highly visible from my direction of approach. I hike with two hiking poles, and they came in handy here to make my approach secure. Thanks!

The Secret Lagoon of Nisene Marks: CAUTION

By: yofoghorn Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Regular

The hint seemed a little vague, but the coordinates were pretty good and the cache is in a secure spot, out of the creek bed, away from the danger of being washed away. I am not that great of a finder, but I wandered around, and spotted the FTF prize, then the cache. I pondered the prize, then decided to take it since I lost one of my water bottles at a cache a few months ago. I came from Off With Their Heads, so the pink ribbons were a nice touch and I followed them up to the Die Hard tree. My 24K topo maps do not do justice to the terrain around here. There must have been a lot of data averaging in this vicinity. Thanks!

I planned to go for a few off trail caches, and this one was on the route and kept me on the route. I came from the top, and used this to judge where to leave the road. Thanks!

The Old Growth Giants' Grove

By: yofoghorn Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

I usually hike as early as I can get going in the morning, but we had house guests this morning, and I decided to try an afternoon hike. I came from the top, and this was my first cache of the day. I judged it pretty well and headed in from the road at the right point. The search took a little time, but I finally found something that matched the hint. Thanks!

High Altitude Giant: Virgin Redwood

By: yofoghorn Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

This was my last cache of the afternoon. I followed the pink ribbons up the hill, found the clearing, then headed over to this tree. After finding the cache, I headed back to my car and called home since I would get there after 6 pm. Thanks!

I planned to come over the hill from San Jose this morning to work on my father-in-law's new lift for entering his home. I didn't want to get there too early, so I made a stop here first to go for a little hike and pick up a few geocaches. I found this one right where it was advertised. Thanks!

Oh my, Amaya!

By: alpharomero.com Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Micro

This was not a bad hike from Amaya Little Nuts. I got an early start from Highland Ave (a group of three cyclists just beat me) and got here about 9 am. Now ... what to do for the rest of the day? Thanks!

Amaya Little Nuts?

By: alpharomero.com Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Micro

This was my every-other-Friday off so I planned a significant bike/hike. Getting here was no problem. I just coasted down from Highland Ave, then started pushing my bike up to Amaya. I quickly gave that up, ditched the bike and hiked the mile or so here. The return to Highland took a little longer with my wet noodle legs. I managed to skip Amaya Big Tease? so I had to get it on the way out. Thanks!

Demo Rest Stop

By: Geokashers Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

My GZ was in the opposite direction from the information sign, but the hint made it clear where to look. I dodged the PO, and made the find. Note that the hide is probably a little different than the original. Thanks!

Amaya Big Tease?

By: alpharomero.com Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Micro

I picked this up on my way back to my bike. I missed looking for it on my way in somehow. After I got back to my bike and back to the main road I met up with a logging truck. It's easy to tell one coming from the noise they make. I found a spot and pulled well off the road to let it pass. This entry was edited by bytemobile on Wednesday, 03 October 2012 at 15:13:44 UTC.

What have I done?

By: alpharomero.com Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Micro

At Amaya Little Nuts? there was a fork and a sign for Amaya Pond Rd. It wasn't on my map, but it seemed to be heading the right direction. I followed it until the road ended in a clearing and a little path headed out the other side. This path turned out to go straight to the cache. I was glad I still had my bike stashed. Thanks!

Between a rock and Long Ridge Road

By: alpharomero.com Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Micro

I have been going after a few yofoghorn caches in Nisene Marks the last few weeks, so this trek didn't bother me. Some logging vehicle was headed down Long Ridge Rd while I was back here, so it was clear where the road was. I could also hear the buzzing of a chain saw, then the thunderous crash of the tree, repeated several times during my hike. Thanks!

Braille

By: bullit Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

I don't include puzzles in pocket queries before I head out on a hike, but I saw this while I was planning the bike/hike, and it looked pretty reasonable. The solution put it right on my route this morning, and I made it my first stop. Cobwebs and forest duff concealed the cache well, but I dug it out without much problem. The log looked like it had been damp at one time, but it was pretty dry now. People have been signing on random pages, so I chose a page and signed. Thanks!

Monte Vista #2 Townsite

By: yofoghorn Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Regular

I was a little puzzled and a little off when I started searching. Fortunately, the coordinates were amazing good for me and I figured out at least part of the hint before finding the cache. Just before I started searching, I met another hiker on the trail. I was initially surprised since you don't expect to see many folks back here. Thanks!

Eagle's Rest

By: yofoghorn Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

This was my turn around point today. I wanted to be home in San Jose by 4 pm, and it was nearly 1 pm when I found the cache. I got it after a short search. I turned left when I got up to the top of the ridge, and it was slightly to the right. Thanks!

By: C2C cachers Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

This was a nice waypoint cache to get going on the trail out to Nisene Hideout. It was the faintest of trails, with little markers tied to the vegetation here and there. I guess there was some preliminary work done for putting a real trail here. I dropped off the Unnecessary Bushwacking geocoin. Thanks!

The Nisene Tree Climb

I've been by here before, but never took the time to notice this tree. I was pedaling up to White's Lagoon to start a hike, but made a quick stop here. Thanks for the good hint. I got going early this morning, and was here about 8 am. I dropped off the Ma's Hawaii TB. Thanks!

switchback ram cache

By: smiglees Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

Oil Can Harry

By: C2C cachers Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Regular

This was another nice waypoint that kept me on the straight and narrow heading out to Nisene Hideout. The cache was pretty well concealed by redwood duff. The cache was in good shape, but it really looked like it hadn't been touched in a couple years. Thanks! Edit: I used a bit of the hand sanitizer in the cache to clean off the sap on my hands from the Nisene Tree Climb. It was nice seeing this here! Little Nobody

By: EvilNobodyPie Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Small

It was the fourth stump for me. My GZ was on the other side of the trail, but that is to be expected in this sort of terrain. Thanks!

Out House Tree: Virgin Redwood

By: yofoghorn Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

I came from the Little Nobody cache. I noticed that at least on the Nisene Marks map I had, that an elevation contour could sort of be followed over to the Out House Tree. That proved not to be the case, but I made it over anyway. My route back over to White's Lagoon worked out better, but it could probably be improved. The road that goes past the fallen down cabin seems to disappear in a gully. Thanks for the adventure!

Nisene Hideout

By: mayela mingi Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

This is a really remote part of Nisene Marks SP. After wandering around a bit I saw a suspicious shape and poked at it with one of my hiking poles. I heard the nice thunk of an ammo can. A couple years worth of forest duff had concealed it pretty well. Looking around up here, I saw something that was purple in color. I walked over to investigate, and found the remains of a Mylar party balloon. I guess that when they get away, they have to come down somewhere. Thanks!

Big Stump Flats

By: yofoghorn Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 5.0 Container: Regular

Hmm. I just noticed the five-star terrain rating on this one. Yup, I guess that's what it was. My usual mode of operation is load up the GPS, jump in the bytemobile, and read about caches on the trail. I came from above, so getting back up was my main worry. The cache was about a third full of water, and the inner plastic bag was closed, but full of water. Black mold was growing on everything. The cache container and lid were intact, but at one time there must have been water flowing through the hidey-hole that contained the cache. I emptied out the water and replaced the cache upside down to give things a chance to drain and dry out. I took the Ma's Hawaii travel bug home to clean off the black mold. Thanksl

Hidden Lagoon

By: yofoghorn Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Regular

After looking around a little, I read mayela mingi's log and I was discouraged. I didn't have an hour to spend here. I was anxious to start heading back up the hill. I decided to look around a little more, and a hunch worked out. The cache was in great shape. I would say that the cache write-up could a little more in the way of a hint to make this more findable. Thanks!

Reiterated Giant: Virgin Redwood

By: yofoghorn Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I parked on Buzzard Lagoon Rd., so this was just a short walk on a packed trail. Once I started looking up, there was no mistaking this redwood, and from the hint, the cache came quickly. Thanks!

This was my first walk on the new trail. I would have brought my bike, but the caches are so close, it would have been a chore. Thanks!

Alpine Base Camp

By: SeanStafford & GCWidow Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I parked nearby and skipped this one initially because there were workers nearby. Hiking back, I met Airsax, and saw that she signed the log ahead of me. Thanks!

Stop and Smell...

By: Dotish Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I haven't been doing puzzles for a long time, but this is now the closest to home, so I had a look at it. The solution went pretty quickly, and I looked at the result in Google Maps. My evening walks sometimes take me by here, so I had a quick look without GPSr and spotted it. Thanks!

Knick Knack Paddy Whack ?

By: OT_Tucker Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Large

Amazing! I was out for a bike ride and didn't want to draw the attention of folks in front of the nearby animal shelter, but I had a short look for this one. I put my hand on the cache to lean against it, and quickly found it. Thanks!

Guadalupe River Coin Exchange

By: Galileo the cat Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

This was my second find along the trail as I went for a little Sunday morning bike ride. No coins exchanged today. Thanks!

Hand-Me-Down Cache

By: Galileo the cat Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

Not hard for a geocacher to spot. I like this kind of cache since I am more into a nice bike ride or hike than spending time searching. Thanks!

Deja Vu: A Rocky Start

By: BearTerritory Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I decided to go for a bike ride this morning. I parked across the street to head out on the Guadalupe Trail, but first I grabbed this one. Thanks!

Spotted it right away in plain sight before spending time on the rock pile. Thanks!

Tyrannosaurus Wrecks

By: rragan Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I had to dig into my caching toolkit to retrieve this one. The cache was a little beyond retrieval with a finger or pen. Hopefully, the next finder can grab it a little quicker. Thanks!

Knights of Laurel Wood

By: Galileo the cat Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Thanks for the explicit hint. I parked my bike, had a seat, and signed the cache. Thanks!

Top of the dune

By: Soquel1930 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

We were back again to Sunset SB with our trailer for Memorial Day weekend. Kinda windy and overcast today. After failing with just the coordinates, I sat down and read the description and hint. Then I went straight for the cache and spotted it where the camo had tricked me before. Thanks! Edit: After hearing about the dead young gray whale at the campfire program (the victim of Orcas), Mrs. B and I hiked down the beach to see it. It has been there a few days, so stay upwind. There has been an attempt to bury it in the sand. Maybe they will try again this week. It seems to be right behind Monterey Bay Academy, at N 36 54.399 W 121 50.750.

The area looks a bit different with waist-high weeds. I slogged on through and found the cache without too much difficulty. Thanks!

A Little Bay Along Gibson Trail

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

The PO is trying to reclaim the trail, growing in from both sides of it. The little bay is surrounded by little PO plants, which I'm sure will eventually get bigger.

An Oak Clinger Along Hunting Hollow

I'm Lichen It!

By: Geokashers and BuckingFirds Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

The area certainly looks different than the picture on the cache page with tall weeds that have grown up. I used my hiking poles to part them and search for the cache. Thanks!

Reason #7 to Visit Coe

By: Geokashers Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Micro

R - geokasheRs

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

I salute anyone who has done all the letter caches in one hike. If I ever get them all, it will be more like four hikes. Thanks!

Eroding Log

By: fishnguy & 10sgrl Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Branching Oak Near the Top, or is it?

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

It was just before noon, so I decided to have my little bag of cashews here. I didn't look at the GPSr until I was done, so I was surprised that I was right next to the cache. Thanks!

I was out for a hike from the Hampton Inn down Shaffer Parkway, and wondered if I could return via the C-470 trail. I hiked through the gated community, down a wooden walkway across the golf cart path, and there was an unlocked gate to the trail! This was the first cache I found on my way back. Thanks!

Jack and Jill

By: BrokenZen and Tumbling Cow Pie Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Small

While reading from my GPSr, a guy came by and asked if I was a scientist. I told him no, I was just out for a hike. He said he was 80, so he was doing well to be tramping about out here. I wanted to redeem myself from my previous DNF, so made the climb again. This time, I looked about more thoroughly, and found the cache. Thanks!

The Enchanted Forest

By: mayela mingi Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I found and signed the cache quickly to keep ahead of the backpackers. The phrase "old guy" floated up to me. I had a butt pack and hiking sticks to attack this steep terrain. They had young legs, but big packs. Thanks!

Just Another Hollow Stump along Steer Ridge

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

I'm glad my GPSr beeped at me, or I would have had to backtrack a little. I didn't spot it on the first look, but I looked again after reading the hint. Thanks!

Creek Cross Cache

By: Geokashers Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Another nice ammo box. I imagine the creek might be a challenge to cross in a wet winter. Today there was no problem stepping across the rocks. Thanks!

Arrgh! This type of hide is hit or miss for me. I made a couple passes, then finally got the right angle on it to see it. I was sure the backpackers would catch me this time, but no. Thanks!

By: DragonsWest Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Tribute to Marky and Joani in Coe Park

By: WERDAVE Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

The container looks OK, but it was full of water again. The double bagging worked fine and kept the log dry. I replaced the cache upside down so we can see how that works. Thanks!
