The School, I Presume!

By: Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

I would be interested in a history of this area and what school the road name refers to. No problem finding the cache. There wasn't any PO next to the cache, but I may not have been paying attention. Thanks!

The Exorcist

By: Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

I expected this to be at the end of the road or a sign that said Private Property ahead. The road just seems to go on and on and down and down. I walked a little way, but really needed a new cache in my pack to make it worthwhile. Thanks!

So Lucky

By: not2b Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

The proximity alarm on my GPSr didn't go off and I passed this one by a couple hundred feet, but I came back for the find. No one down here today except the turkeys. Thanks!

By: not2b Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Micro

I decided to check out a few of my caches since I was hiking nearby and get this one. The fitness part doesn't play a big part until you've found the cache and are trying to get back to the car. Thanks!

Olivine (Mg,Fe)2SiO4 - DP/EC38

By: danieloliveira Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Not chosen

Mrs. Bytemobile really wanted to come out here, so on our last full day in Hawaii, we spent the day visiting this beach, and another beach about 20 miles down the road that has turtles and black sand. We were amazed by the clarity of the water -- you could see right through the breakers. It was a bit windy, but we took a dip and had lunch on the beach. Thanks!

Puff and Suds

By: Alkapukalup and Lali Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

We came down here after visiting the Green Sand Beach. The black sand was different from the last black sand beach we visited. The tourist buses were stopping by every 15 minutes, but that didn't spoil our visit. We took some pictures of the turtles that were resting on the lava, then grabbed our snorkel gear and went for a short swim. The water was cold where the fresh water was coming in. We saw lots of fish, then I almost ran into a turtle com ing in. Mrs. Bytemobile said a turtle was following her in. Thanks!

Dos and dads cache

By: Alkapukalup and Lali Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

Mrs. Bytemobile was not looking forward to the hike, but wanted to see the Green Sand Beach bad enough to come out here. A couple of minutes after we parked near the boat ramp, Albert, in his four-wheel drive Toyota, dropped some folks off, and offered us a ride for a donation. He stopped to let us take pictures right next to the cache site, so we decided to disembark there. No problems finding the cache. We picked up the travel bug in the cache, since it was a little rusty from a bit of water that had accumulated in the cache. After a hike down, a swim, lunch, a climb back up, and a few pictures, Albert was back dropping some folks off. Albert is usually offering rides Monday through Friday. Thanks!

Troop 15, Kona Scenic

By: Troop15-Kealakekua Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

We made a stop here on our way back from snorkeling at a Place of Refuge. The boys playing basketball must have thought I was odd for stepping into the bushes, but I managed to come up with it fairly quickly. Thanks!

Respect the Refuge

By: kavachicks Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

The main parking lot for $5 is a deal especially if you plan to tour the grounds. It is a short walk back out though the entry gate to get to the snorkeling area. We managed to go snorkeling a couple times here during our vacation, and spotted a spotted manta ray on the second visit. Thanks!

Ocean Access 1

By: k & ckona Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

We headed down the short path to the ocean, but when we got there, we were still 0.2 miles away. I didn't want to climb over the lava that far, so I tried the other direction, and found an asphalt path right to the cache. Mrs. Bytemobile and I found comfortable chairs near the cache site, and set a spell, watching the ocean. We weren't disappointed when we spotted whales a little later. Thanks!

The Thirst Quencher

By: flipnnip Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

We toured the Seahorse Farm a few days ago, but skipped this cache. Today we picked up a few caches, including this one. Thanks!

Turtle Beach

By: Team_JJ Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

I loaded up my GPSr some time ago for this vacation, and didn't have the disabled info. The lock-n-lock box was missing its locking flaps, but some lava rock held the top in place. The cache contents were in fine shape. Saw no turtles today, but the beach was gorgeous and full of people. Thanks!

Pine Trees and Seahorses

By: Kauilamermaid adopted by konagold Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I would have replaced the log if I hadn't left my waterproof Adventure Paper at home. The cap seems to be missing from the cache. Thanks!

By: KonaJAKE Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Finding the cache is pretty tricky in this area. I first found the puka. I also found a little trail with a No Trespassing sign, along with a handwritten "you will be arrested". Thanks!

Hawaii Volcanoes N.P. - U.S. World Heritage Site

By: Yosemite John and Debbie Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

We stayed in Volcano Village a couple nights and joined up with a tour that took us down to the county-run lava viewing area. Great experience!

Pana'ewa Tiergarten

By: Keaukaha (adpoted from Kilohoku) Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

This was our first stop after staying for a couple nights in Volcano. It proved to be a great stop, since Mrs. Bytemobile loves to see animals. The tiger pen is enormous. Chickens are wandering everywhere and a gang of peacocks strutted by. No problem with bugs or rain today. Thanks!

South Point Cache

By: TmyTkr and his mum Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

The road out hear was smooth most of the way, if a bit narrow. We watched a few folks take the plunge off the boat hoists, but weren't tempted ourselves because of the climb up the rusty ladder to get back up. No problems finding the cache. Thanks!

Manuka State Park

By: wing-it Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

We were looking for a rest stop on our way to South Point, and this was the perfect stop. No problems locating it. Thanks!

Ocean Access 2

By: K & CKona Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

I took a long walk from the hotel this morning and found the ocean access sign with no trouble. Lots of folks out watching the big waves, but no one in the water today. I was afraid this one might be hard to find, but I sat down right next to it. Thanks!

By: naugtboyscout Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

The whale watchers were pulling out here to have a look at the blows and the splashing flukes. We skipped it on the way north because the parking was crowded, then stopped on the way back. Thanks!

Aloha Makana

By: Grinch & GrinchJr2 Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I managed to find it fairly quickly without the hint. In fact, I didn't notice the feature mentioned in the hint until I got a little closer. My second geocache in Hawaii. Thanks!

By: KonaJAKE Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

My first Hawaii geocache. On a family vacation + wedding for second son. Went snorkeling a couple times today, did some serious eating, and of course, took time for a couple geocaches. Thanks!

Thornewood Bridle Trail

By: ChipnDonna Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

This is a nice trail through some great second growth redwood. The cache hunt took a few minutes, and using the hint was less helpful than one might think, with the meandering trail and the tree canopy. I have a pretty new Garmin 62s, and it was 58 feet off at the cache site. I think that is a symptom of being in heavy forest, not of the coordinates being off. Thanks!

Alice's Restaurant

By: L-grl (with GeoWomyn_SF_CA) Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I traded a few pleasantries with an old man as he left the cache area, and I was able to get a good look, ignoring the breakfast eaters. I found the cache on the ground, but I probably knocked it off looking for it. I put it back where I thought it belonged. Thanks!

Bay Area Ridge Trail - Timber #2

By: TimberToo Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

The cache was well concealed in its hiding spot, with forest debris on top, but there weren't that many places to look especially with the hint. I found it in a couple minutes, but was on my knees putting it back when a runner passed by. Thanks!

Thornewood's Front Door

By: PurplePeople Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I stopped on my way out. Luckily, I pulled over as best I could and a pickup headed out was able to pass as I signed the log. Thanks!

Corte Entrance

By: not2b Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I guess today was a popular day for hiking or biking Corte. There were cars lined up along the side of Skyline for quite a ways. Thanks!

The Lost Village of Searsville

By: PurplePeople Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

This was my first stop this morning. I didn't have much trouble spotting the cache, but it was a nice camo job. I looked through the fence, but couldn't see much of interest from here. Thanks!

Methuselah Since 200AD

By: HMB Lipripper Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

The forest debris had pretty much covered this one, but the good hint helped me find it. Thanks!

Bay Area Ridge Trail - Timber #3

By: TimberToo Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

The hint no longer applies to this one. Evidently the original spot didn't work out. There is no problem spotting it now, just don't be distracted by the hint. Thanks!

Bay Area Ridge Trail - Rustic Reststop

By: TimberToo Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

This was the only cache I managed to open, sign, and put back without a runner or two coming by while I was in process. The runners were spread out, but the traffic was pretty constant. Thanks!

A Schilling For Your Thoughts

By: digitalfish Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I managed to spot this before resorting to the hint. The container was nearly full of water, so I think the hiding spot must retain some water. I emptied it out and managed to sign the wet log. Thanks!

Perforated Coupons

By: the voucher Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

This was a neat little cache with the perfect hint. Thanks!

Bay Area Ridge Trail - Springboard Notch

By: TimberToo Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

I started at the Wunderlich end, and there was a table set up there for runners. Evidently it was a trail marathon checkpoint. I started seeing runners right away, and some of them turned around at the checkpoint, so we ended up passing on the trail twice. No problem spotting the cache. Thanks!

Bay Area Ridge Trail - Timber #1

By: TimberToo Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

This one looked like it hadn't been touched in a couple rainy months, but it was in good shape. I decided to turn around here and do Teague Hill another day. Thanks!
