Quiet as an .....uh... airplane!

By: Espy Seay Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I had over an hour until my flight this morning, so I made a quick stop here. It was before the museum opened at 10 am, but it was still interesting. Thanks!

Land of the Free....

By: Espy Seay Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

I had some time before heading to the airport this morning to return from a business trip. This seemed like an interesting stop, and it turned out to be quite impressive. Thanks!

Rastus Goes to PLay Tennis

By: RASTUS50 Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Micro

I had a little time before heading to the airport this morning, and decided to stop by here. If I had read the terrain rating, the find would have been much quicker, but I eventually narrowed down the possibilities. Thanks!

Talon

By: Lewis & ClarkinTexas Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

This is my first Texas cache. I'm working today, so didn't have much time. This one fit the bill for a quick stop. Thanks!

Rastus goes swimming

By: RASTUS50 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

My second Texas geocache. I hunted this cache because it was close to the Embassy Suites, and it was not a micro. I haven't had much time for caching since I'm here working, but I wanted to drop a travel bug and this seemed like a good spot. I left Jaime's World Travel Bug. Thanks!

Captain's Inn - The Geocache

By: two bison Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

We had no trouble at all with this one. The coordinates were right on, and the cache was the first thing I touched. I took the travel bug, and will probably drop it in Texas in a couple days. Thanks!

Elkhorn Slough Overlook

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

We were here a little after 10 am on a Saturday morning, and the slough was full of kayakers and a few otters. The excellent coordinates led us to the cache in short order. Thanks!

To the Overlook

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Wirebndr and I set out from the Sunset State Beach campground this morning where he & Mrs. Wirebndr are camphosts. We pulled off Highway 1 here around 10 am and found the gate locked. The place didn't look too inviting, but we could see the structures pictured on the cache page, and considered going around the gate and hiking in. About that time, a fellow drove out the driveway, unlocked the gate, and invited us in. No troubles finding the cache. Thanks!

Sand Dune

By: SCCS Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

This was a short hike from our trailer in site 86. We were visiting Wirebndr, who along with Mrs. Wirebndr are camphosts here for a couple months. Wirebndr and I found the cache, signed, and took in the view. Thanks!

Elkhorn Slough Reserve

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

A young lady headed up the driveway to the mailbox just as Wirebndr and I were signing the log. She said we were very suspicious looking, and we explained that we were geocaching. She didn't seem to have a problem with the cache, but wondered whether to expect hoards of people to be stopping by. We explained that the visits were not that frequent and that this cache had a nice description of their operation.

Bear Republic

By: G A-DayTrippers Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

After a little caching around Elkhorn Slough and Moss Landing, Wirebndr and I had a nice lunch at Phil's, then walked out here for the cache. No problems finding it, but Wirebndr picked up a splinter under his nail as he put the cache back, and we had to do a little operating. Thanks!

Western Sloughs - Global Warming

By: The Cache Syndicate Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I read the cache description out loud from by PDA, and didn't completely finish it before we had found the cache, and headed back to the car. The guy parked next to us saw my GPS, asked if we were geocachers, and wondered if we had found this cache. Thanks!

Welcome to Nevada (or California)

By: byjer Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

We were heading from Susanville to Truckee today on the next-to-last leg of our vacation through northern California. Before we started, I had a look at a map and saw that we were going through a little slice of Sierra County. I wondered if there was a cache in the county along our route, and this turned up. It seems to be a popular one lately for folks from the Bay Area. I was pulling a long travel trailer, and found just enough room along the side of the frontage road to park near the cache. No problems finding it. Thanks!

Donner, Party of Five

By: dgreno Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Virtual

We parked our travel trailer at the Alder Creek Campground, and headed down here to the state park. We arrived at the museum at 3 pm and decided to watch the movie about the Donner Party since it was just starting. The movie was worthwhile and informative. After wandering through the museum, we headed out to see the Donner Memorial and the rock pictured above, then took a drive through the state park, along the lake. Thanks!

Rails to Trails #1

By: jeditruckr & ltlmtr Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Mrs. Bytemobile and I decided to turn around here and head back to the Susanville trailhead. The weather was a bit warm, and we didn't have any particular objective ahead. Found the cache without much trouble. Left red jeep travel bug. Thanks!

Darts Tonight

By: popcorn6079 Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Mrs. Bytemobile and I set out on a ride down the Bizz Johnson Trail this afternoon. I drew some attention from the kids swimming here, but managed to grab the cache when they lost interest in me. One of the boys also asked me if I was a cop. I thought the coordinates were pretty good. The cache turned out to be exactly where I thought it would be as we rode up.

Susan River Parkway Cache

By: german shepherd lover & billygoat mom Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

We parked at the small lot at the trailhead at N 40 24.808 W 120 39.095 (it might be nice to add this as a waypoint in the cache description). I thought the hide was nice, and the cache was in good shape. Thanks!

Michel's 1st Cache

By: german_shepherd_lover & Michel Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Mrs. Bytemobile and I stopped by here with our bikes, on our way back to the Susanville depot. Mrs. B guarded the bike while I made the hike up the hill. I had no idea how to apply the hint, but the coordinates were quite good for me and I spotted the cache after a short search. Thanks!

Skull Cache

By: ChrissySkyking + Blaze Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Virtual

We drove up for the day from where we were camped at Eagle Lake. We visited all the caves mentioned in the cache description (Valentine, Mushpot, Skull Cave, Catacombs, and Merrill) plus Golden Dome. We didn't bring our sweatshirts into Skull, which was OK, but some gloves would have been nice since our hands were very cold on the metal handrails. This cache was probably much more interesting when you could go out on the ice floor. From the viewing platform we were able to see a couple small patches of ice. We enjoyed the caves today, and we learned how easy it is to become disoriented in a cave. Thanks!

Electric Horseman

By: Lone Ranger & Tonto Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

We stopped here on our way back to our travel trailer at Eagle Lake, after spending the day visiting Lava Beds and Tule Lake. No trouble finding the cache. I took the red jeep travel bug and left Bytemobile turtle #392. This was my first red jeep. Thanks!

"IT"

By: hoodoo31 & grammy Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

We were heading back to our travel trailer at Eagle Lake after a day at Lava Beds and Tule Lake, and stopped for a short hunt. I believe this is my first find in Lassen County. Thanks!

Micro Cache at Mammoth Road

By: CABass Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

We were heading back to our travel trailer at Eagle Lake after a day at the Lava Beds and Tule Lake. We made a quick stop here and made a quick find. Thanks!

Bike Trail #1

By: O' Scout Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

This cache served as a very handy waypoint for us today. We were headed from Quincy to Eagle Lake, and had heard about this bike trail from a yarn shop owner in Chico a couple days ago. Mrs. Bytemobile and I met on a bike ride, and today was our 29th anniversary. We only rode about half the trail, but we had some great views and got some pictures of some young ospreys hollering "Feed me, feed me" from their nests atop some tall pine trees. Thanks!

On the Line

By: KEELSX6 and JungleJan Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

This was our last cache of the day on our way back to our travel trailer in Quincy, after a visit to the Western Railroad museum in Portola and the mining museum at Plumas Eureka State Park. Thanks!

Ghost town

By: Lakes Basin Explorers Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

We visited the park today on a day trip from Quincy. I wish I had gathered some information on the roads and trails before I set out from the campground area because I wandered around a bit. I had a nice hike however, and tiptoed across a couple creeks on the rocks. It turns out I could have driven right up to the cache. I hope no one moves one of the items in the hint, because otherwise this would be a needle in a haystack hide. I used the hint, started my hunt in the right area, but it still took some effort. I left Bytemobile turtle #391. Thanks!

Clio @ Feather River

By: garyhenry Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I didn't see any fish, but a water truck was parked nearby pumping its tank full from the river. No problem finding the cache. Thanks!

Wild River "Crossing"

By: cookie & faith Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Mrs. Bytemobile and I stopped for this one as we were returning to our travel trailer in Quincy from a day trip to Portola. We hiked across the bridge and admired the views. The cache container is somewhat worse for the weather and the top has broken off. Thanks!

Jamison City, Johnstown SHM #196

By: byjer Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

We were headed from Quincy to Portola this morning, and stopped for this one. Thanks!

Milward Switch Cache

By: Kim & Loren Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

We climbed around on a bunch of the equipment, then climbed aboard the caboose with the cupola for a ride. The folks we shared the cupola with had been there before. They had rented a locomotive for an hour and explained how cool it was to drive one. No problems finding the cache. It was stuffed with cool stuff for kids. TNLN. Thanks!

Who says a train can't do a loop

By: gardenfrog & dragonfly Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

We left our travel trailer at an RV park in Quincy and set out for Portola this morning. This was our first stop. Even with the waypoint, we missed the entry point from Highway 70 and had to turn around. The road was a bit rough and narrow in spots, but we made it fine with our Ford F-250. We found the cache and took a few pictures, but gave up on waiting for a train. On our way home we stopped again, and saw the tail end of a train exiting the loop on the way up. Thanks!

Pioneer Playtime

By: Sierra Rat Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Other

We parked our travel trailer at the Pioneer RV park just down the street from the cache. After visiting the Plumas County Museum and a short hike around Quincy, we headed back to the trailer. I hiked down for the cache in the late afternoon, but the playground was busy, and I didn't want to look like a dirty old man skulking around. I came back after supper and waited a couple minutes until the last kid and his dad headed home. After that, I had amazing luck on this needle in a haystack hide, and laid hands on it right away. Thanks!

Quincy Travel Bug Depot

By: KEELSX6 Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Mrs. Bytemobile and I parked our travel trailer at the Pioneer RV park and headed back toward downtown Quincy to visit the Plumas County Museum. We made this stop along the way. I left Bytemobile turtle #390. Thanks!

The Eby Stomp

By: Rock & Crystal Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Mrs. Bytemobile and I pulled our travel trailer today from Chico to Quincy, and made this stop along the way. It was our first drive up the Feather River Canyon, and we enjoyed the scenery. We had to hunt around a bit for the cache, but the second time I touched it, I recognized it as such, and pulled it out. We almost left before I read the full cache description and collected the answers to the questions. Thanks!

" Y " Cache

By: Terry and Leah Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I was happy we stopped for this cache because I wanted to shoot some photos of the Keddie Wye, and it doesn't seem to be marked along the highway. After finding the cache, I went across the highway and found the path used by railfans. I took a couple pictures, then heard a train coming and took a couple more as it headed across the wye.

Aqua ex petrum

By: byjer Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Mrs. Bytemobile and I were making our first trip up the Feather River Canyon today, pulling our travel trailer from Chico to Quincy. I had a couple years of Latin in high school (starting in 1965) and that was enough to decode the hint. We had lunch here, then headed on up the canyon. Thanks!

Kaoru's Cache in the Canyon

By: Lucky46 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Mrs. Bytemobile and I pulled our travel trailer from Chico to Quincy today and made this stop along the way. Our GPSr took us about 50 feet too far down the trail, and we hunted around a bit, but finally checked out the right area and came up with the cache. Thanks!

Bobolu mini 6 & a half

By: bobolu Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Other

Nobody was around this morning except Mrs. Bytemobile and me. Mrs. B pointed out a likely place to hunt, and I came up with the tiny cache. Thanks!

Council Ring

By: jackrat and The Brain Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

Mrs. Bytemobile and I set off on a bike ride through the park this morning. We are on a travel trailer camping trip. This was the first cache we found. Mrs. B was the first to spot it. Thanks!

Bobolu Mini # 10

By: bobolu Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

This was the turn-around point for our bike ride through the park this morning. I didn't read the cache description before hunting, and was surprised to find a micro. Thanks!

Scooter's Cross Country Cache

By: redvoodoo Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I read the two hints out loud, and both Mrs. Bytemobile and I spotted the cache from about 15 feet away. I left the cache covered a little better than we found it. Thanks!

OH,(P)N.U.T.S.! Linus

By: redvoodoo Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Mrs. Bytemobile and I took a break here on our bike ride through the park this morning. My GPSr didn't zero out very close, but the hint was enough to make the find. Thanks!

CAR SALON

By: redvoodoo Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

We pulled into the nearby RV park late this afternoon. I biked over in the evening and several folks were sprucing up their cars on a Thursday evening. I found the cache without need to resort to the hint. My first Chico cache. Thanks!
