SJC- 1 - The Brooke Hart Kidnapping

By: nostrada - Adopted by Nazgul Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Interesting area. It looks like there are three high quality trails parallel to the river. The cache is nicely done.

Normal cache

By: Team Shadow Cat Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

My GPSr didn't put me right on top of this, but I found it after a short search. Thanks!

TOTALLY TUBULAR TWO

By: joe & britdog Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I would have found this much quicker if I had Assumed Nothing and looked at my GPSr. But it was fun looking around anyway. Thanks!

Who is..... ?

By: Nazgul Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I'm geek enough to get the puzzle, but I initially used a lame tool and didn't see what I needed to see. I picked up the Puzzleology clues, which I had not noticed, even though I had been there before.

Lexington Fishing Quiz Cache

By: ynots4 Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I planned a drive around Lexington this morning, and I solved this in preparation. Lots of folks rowing this morning. Thanks!

WoW! Hidden Secrets!

By: CC Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I didn't grok the hint either, but managed to spot one end of the cache. Thanks for the puzzle!

SJGP: Klag

By: bullit Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I used the hint, and had a peek at the right angle to find this one quickly. Thanks!

Heil Kaiser!

By: Nazgul Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

This was definitely a two-stage puzzle for me. At the cache site this morning, I was initially worried about the construction fencing, but it proved to be away from the sign and cache.

SJGP: Turn 4

By: bullit Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I couple puzzle caches brought me to downtown, but I couldn't resist grabbing a few more while I was here.

Parade of Floats

By: rowanf Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I didn't really get the big picture here until I had found the cache and drove further down the street in my car. Thanks for the interesting location.

SJGP: Kerblammo

By: bullit Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

This series has gotten lots of visits, and the logs are mostly full. I think I found the last little blank spot on the back of this one to sign.

Smokey Bear Flat

By: mamaloo Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I was headed home from backpacking in Little Lakes Valley, and this cache fit the bill for a quick stop and leg-stretch. Thanks!

Rock Creek Palisade

By: The Real McCoy's Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

My sons and I were backpacking at Long Lake. This morning, we hiked up to Upper and Lower Morgan Lakes, caught a few trout, broke camp, and headed out. This was my first stop on the way out.

Rock Creek Canyon Cache

By: The Real McCoy's Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

It was a nice day today, but last night it was a little chilly at our camp near Long Lake. The water in our water bottles froze solid, with temperatures in the 20s. Found the cache quickly with the help of the hint. I left Bytemobile turtle #333. Thanks!

Don't Miss Whoa Nellie Deli

By: HB Lunatics Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

I had my lunch with me, so I skipped the deli, but I had not been up this road before. Thanks!

Pool House Inverted View

By: cleech Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

There were several fishermen at the fishing hole today. I found the hints to be very helpful in finding the cache. The view of the sky is somewhat hindered here. Thanks!

The O.C.C.

By: TeamSanruft Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I visited a little before 8 am, and had to dodge the sprinklers. I zeroed right in on the cache with some help from the hint. Thanks!

Quarters and Hershey Kisses

By: Red Jeeper Creepers Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

I was a little early for some Kisses. No problem finding the cache. Thanks!

Acorn's Mistake

By: M5 Driver Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I was heading for the Sierras for a backpacking trip, and the sun was just coming up, about 7 am. This was my first stop, and it felt good to stretch my legs. I found the cache in about the third place I looked.

Hetch Hetchy-Moccasin

By: Retired-ee and Wintertime Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I was pulling a travel trailer the last couple times I was by here. Today, it was just me and my car, so I had a look around and did the cache. I left Bytemobile turtle #330. Thanks for the interesting cache!

St. Josephs Niche

By: SpecialDelivery Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

I stopped by on my way to the Sierras for a little backpacking trip with my sons. This is an interesting spot, with a little history lesson that I would otherwise have missed. Thanks!

Mary Had A Little Lamb

By: loribori Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I was headed for a backpacking trip in the Sierras, and stopped for a few caches along the way. Nice spot to take a break.

Grave of the Unknown Prospector

By: mrsr71 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I picked up my wilderness permit and bear cannisters at the Mono Lake Visitor Center, and was headed down to Little Lakes Valley for a backpacking trip. This is an interesting spot that is very easy to miss. Thanks!

The 395 TB TIME-OUT! & TB Sin Confessional

By: Snoogans Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I don't think I have wronged any travel bugs, but I did lose a trackable coin. I left the Batgirl travel bug and Bytemobile turtle #332.

RC 1

By: rowdyclan Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I stopped by before 8 am on a trip to the Sierras. I left Bytemobile turtle #329. Thanks!

Raven's Bridge

By: greenfelter and loribori Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I was headed for the Sierras this morning, wasn't towing a trailer, and had some extra time, so I stopped for a few caches. This is a good spot for one. I took the Batgirl travel bug and left Bytemobile turtle #331.

Little Cabin In The Woods

By: AstroAffe Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

As I was signing the log, someone stopped along the road and hiked up to where I was. He figured I must know something about the little houses. I disappointed him on that score, but I told him I was geocaching, and he was familiar with it.

Coin Trading

By: stbk Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

This is a very nice puzzle and nice presentation. I didn't catch on to hardly any of it without help, however. I got the last, crucial hint from the owner at the Roaring Camp event, and finally got out to find it at lunchtime today. Thanks!

Somewhere in Mountain View

By: catomcat Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I was in the area at lunchtime, finding a nearby puzzle cache, so I decided to give this one a try. Nice idea! I spotted it after a short search. Thanks!

Chasing Rainbows - Resisting the passage of time

By: Frivlas and Lil Checkers Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I've solved this a couple times, but never planned a trip to pick it up. Today, everything came together and I found it using the nice hint.

Coffee Anyone #3

By: Rocket Girl Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

I happened to be in the neighborhood, and decided to stop for a cache. Thanks!

Counterfeit

By: The Rat Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

I didn't deliberately plan to do this cache this weekend, but I was in the area and picked up the CD yesterday, and one thing led to another. If I had planned ahead, I would have borrowed a notebook computer. I turned this into three caching expeditions, so it was not all bad. The cache was an original -- like you would expect from The Rat. My detective skills weren't so hot, but I managed to muddle through. I left my car for the final without a pen, so I ended up signing with a leaf and a Palm stylus. A note for folks picking up and dropping off CDs -- look for earthen stairs 150 ft south before plunging over the embankment. I returned CD #1, so both are now there.

Special camo cache

By: Rocket Girl Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I made quick work of this one, and headed home for lunch. Thanks!

The King And Queen Are Sleeping

By: airshadowshow Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

I couldn't tell from Google Earth which side of the river this was on, so I ended up figuring it out the hard way. Once I was on the right side, I found the reasonably good trail to the cache. The King and Queen are in great shape for being in a container that is not tightly sealed.

Hanging On

By: Rocket Girl and DuckeyLee Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

This was the toughest cache of the morning for me. I went around and around, and finally caught a glimpse from the right angle. Thanks1

in the morning shadow of the great mall???? - CITO

By: howeler Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Hint came into focus while I was searching, and I made the find soon after. TNLN. Thanks!

Counterfeit

By: The Rat Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

I picked up CD #1 this morning.

A rose...

By: ChrissySkyking + Blaze Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I went for the right spot right off, but missed it, so I did a lot of needless looking around until I came back around and found it. Not a lot of folks here this afternoon.

Guadalupe River Wave Berms

By: bullit Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I was tracking some Counterfeiters in the neighborhood, and stopped by for an extra cache.

Lunch walk

By: Jdieas347 and Angel827 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

This seems like a good one to do on a Saturday morning. I missed it on the first pass, and had to look again after running out of easy hiding places.

Beneath Me

By: workerofwood Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I never noticed this structure before, although I don't spend much time in this part of town. I found it after taking readings on both sides.

My noontime walking route.... #2

By: Mr_BKK Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

A Saturday morning errand took me near here, so I did a little caching. Thanks!

Road to Nowhere?

By: alpharomero.com Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I was hauling my old waterheater to the dump this morning, and made a stop here first. The junkyards here have such an interesting collection of stuff!

Numbers Don't Matter

By: Rocket Girl Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Cute cache, and nicely engineered.

Serious Attachments

By: bullit Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

I picked an unfortunate parking place, so I turned this into a good hike.

My noontime walking route.... #1

By: Mr_BKK Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Things were quiet here on a Saturday morning. TNLN. Thanks!

River here, River there

By: Mystery Ink Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Found the cache after a few minutes of looking here and there. This looks like good parking for picking up the Counterfeit CD.

Confluence Park

By: bullit Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

As long as I was hiking, I decided to hike on to this cache. No one was around this afternoon, but it still took me a while to find it. I just had the wrong angle on the first couple passes. As a bonus, I learned a few tidbits about San Jose flood control.

Got Bugs? II

By: bullit Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

This was my first visit to the cache, and I dropped off the Little Snowplow travel bug. It looks like it's time for someone to take a few bugs.

TC2-2005 Adjacent to Rancho

By: popeye2 Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Regular

This is a trail only a cacher could love, although it seems to be used somewhat regularly. I had this on my list of caches I wanted to do eventually, and today it all worked out. I came to do the rash of caches on a nearby trail, and found a trail that seemed to be headed in the right direction for this cache. I left Bytemobile turtle #327.

Bla'gard's Ruse 1 - Recovery

By: OGBO Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I guess the stage of the nearby multi has not been entered into the master database. I found this one quickly and trudged on up the hill.

Huff and Puff

By: dw Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

The weather was not bad for a hike today. The views were somewhat hindered by low clouds and haze, but there was no problem with heat. I missed the cache on the first pass, read the hint, and found it after looking a little closer. I took the Little Snowplow travel bug and left Bytemobile turtle #326.

Virus Bravo Four

By: calipidder Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

I was headed up Black Mountain today, and this was only slightly out of the way. I found it quickly without the hint, and headed back to my trail. Thanks!

Bla'gard's Ruse 4 - De Fenceable Area

By: OGBO Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

It's nice to break up the uphill slog with a cache here and there. Otherwise, I don't take enough breaks. Found the cache and slogged on.

Bla'gard's Ruse 5 - Lime Rock Cascade

By: OGBO Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

Well, I read the hints a couple times, backwards and forwards, and tried to perform them, but was unable to come up with the object of interest. I also sifted through the dried leaves on the trail near the cascade in case it had falled down, but no luck.

Start Here!

By: dw Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

OK, I started here a litte before 8 am. I was just about to lean over and have a look for the cache, when Ms. Ranger rolled up to change something on the bulletin board. I finished getting ready for my hike, she took off, and I finished finding the cache and headed up the trail.

Black Mountain Side

By: dw Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

HALFWAY UP! I read the cache description on my PDA as I walked up, and was discouraged because I was expecting to come over the crest to the top of the mountain any minute now. My patience in finding caches on a long hike is fairly minimal, and I gave up here after 15 minutes or so. On the way back down, though, I was still coming down the trail when I saw a shaft of sunlight lighting up the cache like a spot beam. I can't believe I missed it the first time. I left By temobile turtle #328.

Bla'gard's Ruse 3 - WAAS not Waas too

By: OGBO Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

The coordinates again put me in exactly the right spot, but the cache was not visible. After reading the hint, which confirmed that I was in the right spot, I found the cache with my fingers. Thanks!

Bla'gard's Ruse 7 - Topsincite

By: OGBO Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

I spotted this one soon after I walked up. After signing, I continued on to the road, then turned around and headed back down the trail.

Bla'gard's Ruse 6 - Snake crossing

By: OGBO Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

I stopped for the cache on the way up, then stopped here again on the way down to eat my little sandwich since it was almost noon. There is a place to sit, and it is somewhat protected from the wind I encountered at the top.

Bla'gard's Ruse 2 - deer me

By: OGBO Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

The coordinates worked great for me, and I found this one without resorting to the hint. I'm sure I stepped on a little poison oak here and there.

Hidden Beach Park and View

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I saw that this was replaced this morning, and decided to do an early morning bike ride to find it before packing up and heading home. First to sign the new log. Thanks!

Road to Freedom: Part 1

By: Dirty White Boy Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

This is something you would definitely miss without a cache here. Thanks!

Coin Cash Cache

By: CashBusters Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I had time for a couple caches after picking up supplies for the Labor Day cookout at the beach. This was my first visit to this park. Thanks!

Edge of the West

By: trilljester Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I parked and found the cache, then found the park. If the owner wants to add a parking waypoint to the cache page, here it is: N 36 56.879 W 121 52.436.

Creek-Trestle-Bridge-Sand Box

By: G A-DayTrippers Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

After picking up some Labor Day picnic supplies at Safeway, I had time for a couple caches, and stopped here first. Another couple showed up to search while I was looking. I left first, and no one had spotted it by then. One of my fingers did manage to find a stinging nettle, though.

Sep 3, 2006

The End

By: #1 geobears Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

We're camped again at Seacliff for the Labor Day weekend. I walked down to check on the cache, and it was gone. I decided to hunt around for it on the ground, and I came up with it fairly quickly, and put it back in its spot.

Hook, Line & Sinker 1

By: KtheKinderkid Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

I didn't know the cache had been disabled, and Mrs. Bytemobile and I stopped by this afternoon. We thought it was in perfect working order. Mrs. B spotted the attachment mechanism, and we had it in hand soon after. Thanks!

Squirrel Squirrel at Santa's Stream

By: cruznwaves Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

First I made like a bear and pigged out on the blackberries, then made like a squirrel and found the cache. Thanks!

Butterflies are Free

By: Pinky B Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Wirebndr and I found this one while our wives stayed in our vehicle, continuing their knitting projects. We couldn't find the cache in the first area we investigated, but finally continued on and found the cache. Thanks!

Here It Is, Deer!

By: Just a Short Walk & Along for the Ride & Iron Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

This seems like a natural place for a cache. We found it without too much trouble, then worked out the hints. Thanks!

Robert E. McDonald III

By: cc Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Everyone else with me was headed for Costco. I decided to hike over for a cache or two. The hint is fairly obscure, but that is how I finally found the cache. Thanks!

Snowy Plover

By: el Jim Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Everyone else with me was headed to Costco, but I saw that there were a couple caches close by. I spotted the trailhead and hiked on up. No problems finding this one. Thanks!

Mimi De Marta

By: ynots4 Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

Wirebndr and I did a hike today from near Highway 1 to the ocean, along the San Lorenzo River. We didn't need a parking spot, but that was a good thing because the nearby residents take all the spots in this little cul-de-sac. Wirebndr came up with this find. Thanks!

San Lorenzo River

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Most excellent craftsmanship on this cache! It didn't take Wirebndr and I long to find it, however, on our hike from near Highway 1 to the ocean today. Thanks!

Another Overlook

By: Avada Kedavra and Purple Lizard. Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Wirebndr and I took a hike along the San Lorenzo River, from near Highway 1 to the ocean. This was our end point, and the view today was great. Wirebndr spotted the cache and I made the grab. We were first the sign the brand new log. Thanks!

Louden Nelson Park

By: iwikepie Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Wirebndr and I hiked a few blocks off the San Lorenzo River trail to find this one. We were on our way back from hiking from Highway 1 to the ocean. No problems finding it. Thanks!

Benchmark C 1455

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Wirebndr and I headed out this morning from Seacliff State Beach to do a little Santa Cruz geocaching. We parked near Petco and headed down the river walkway. This ended up being our first cache, after we realized we were on the wrong side of the river for another nearby cache. Wirebnder missed this on the first pass, and I nabbed it on the second.

Downtown Overlook

By: Peeves and Avada Kadavra Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

Wirebndr and I stopped by on the return leg from hiking from Highway 1 to the ocean. I left the pathway and got a glimpse of the cache from the starboard side, then grabbed it from off the pathway on the port side. I don't normally move caches, but decided this one must have been moved before, and I made it reachable from the pathway. It meets the other criteria in the hints as well.
