Another tree, another cache

By: Ckayaks and Nostrada Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

The coordinates are good, and I had no problem with this one. Thanks!

Just the beginning . . .

By: Ckayaks and Nostrada Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

I met another hiker on the way up from Grant Lake. I told him about geocaching, but we parted ways near the cache. The cache is about 100 ft off trail though high grass that was wet with dew this morning, and I don't think he wanted wet feet or ticks. Found it without too much problem. Thanks!

Alpha Virus 2

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

I had some trouble with this one. One of the problems with caching alone is that you can run out of ideas and get hung up. I thought about the hint and some previous CKayaks hides, and finally knew what to look for. I rewarded myself with a half peanut butter sandwich. Here's a hint: you don't have to dig through the rotten wood in the tree hollow.

Pig Hill

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

I was not real thrilled at getting my feet wet in the high grass this early in the hike. Found the cache without any problem. I saw lots of pig evidence, but no pigs. Thanks!

Drink Deeply

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

This is my first hike on this trail, and it was a great day to be up here. I took the Sorting Hat travel bug. Thanks!

Moss Trees

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

It was a nice day for a hike up here. There was a little overcast that kept the temperature pretty nice. Thanks!

kablooey's Garden

By: kablooey Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Micro

The garden path could use a little tending. The weeds are about waist high. This part of the Washburn trail could use a few more cachers. The trail almost disappears in the weeds at points.

Enchanted . . . - Squashy!

By: Ckayaks and Nostrada Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

I stood around for a while, with my GPSr seeing 8 satellites and having 13 foot accuracy, and I came up with coordinates very close to Kablooey's. The coordinate aren't that critical here, but they caused me to leave the trail before I should have. Thanks!

Washburn Trail JAC

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

This was an easy one on a great day at Grant Ranch. Thanks!

Washburn Hilltop View

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

I did a major tick inspection after getting back to the trail from this one. A couple weeks ago I brought some ticks back with me to our travel trailer, and Mrs. Bytemobile was ready to outfit my ankles with flea collars. I guess the pigs party up here at night. They must have a rip roaring good time to tear up all that ground.

Grant Lake Trailhead

By: ckayaks Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I set out about 8:15 am on a big loop around to the Washburn trail. I decided to do this before I got any older or the weather got any hotter. The bullfrogs were singing away as I set out.

White Barn

By: DavidT21 & Fisherwoman Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

This was the last cache for me on a loop around Washburn trail. I was a great day for a hike up here. Thanks!

Here, doggy, doggy !!

By: mfc61 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

I was in the neighborhood, and made a quick grab this afternoon. Thanks!

Trinity

By: 2blucats Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I didn't have much trouble with the puzzle. The hide surprised me, though. It wasn't in a typical spot. Thanks!

Ratiocination

By: 2blucats Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

This is my kind of puzzle -- something I could solve without begging for additional hints. Thanks!

Skinny Park

By: cclark2004 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

This is just a few blocks from home, so I knew I would stop by sooner or later. This afternoon worked out as a good time. Thanks!

Medusa

By: PisoMojado Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I was on this side of campus and had a little time, so I decided to a little hike for a couple caches. This was a little exposed, so I left it covered up a little better. Thanks!

Ohlone Village

By: PisoMojado Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I was stumped for a while, but finally stepped back and looked at the bigger picture. Thanks!

Wimbledon West?

By: stbk Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I was nearby for a puzzle cache, and hiked over for this one. I hadn't seen the grandstands here before. Thanks!

AKA Pete Marsh

By: 2blucats Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I read about this guy somewhere, so it wasn't too hard to dig up the details. I guess I got lucky with the cache, and found it the first place I looked. Thanks!

Marsh View Parking

By: WalruZ Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I didn't know this parking was here. Something else good to know is to turn into Sun's lot at Willow Road if you are coming from the West so you don't end up headed over the bridge.

Marsh View

By: NavySparksandtheMrs Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I headed over at lunchtime, and read the past logs as joggers passed by. Marky's was especially helpful. Thanks!

Ingvar Kamprad's Pride & Joy

By: Beckerbuns, Nurse Dave & Boyz Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I looked in the obvious spot a couple time to make sure, and also checked some not-so-obvious spots.

A Digital Puzzle

By: zapboy Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Very cool bead to add to my string! My GPSr and TerraServer started me off on the wrong side of the trail, but the hint revealed the location fairly quickly. Thanks!

View From The Office

By: stbk Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I was in the area for another cache at lunchtime today, so I gave this one a second shot, and got the right angle on it this time. Thanks!

C.H.U.D.

By: Mohetka Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I went over at lunchtime and found the area plenty secluded for a search. I found the pen first, made a couple circuits, then looked up and spotted it. Nice hide!

Hill View

By: NavySparksandtheMrs Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I came over the hill from a camping trip at Half Moon Bay, and this was my first stop. Thanks!

Jetty

By: Sierra Hikers Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

This was my last stop before heading back to the camper at Half Moon Bay. Thanks for the tour!

Slough View

By: Sierra Hikers Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

The coordinates are fine and so is the cammo. Spotted it quickly, though. Thanks!

Community Garden

By: Sierra Hikers Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Mrs. Bytemobile and I were staying at Francis Beach this weekend, and I came over the hill for a little break from the sun, sand, and surf. The cache was lying on the ground, so I put it back where I thought it must have been.

I Wish Lunch Could Last Forever

By: TheSunnyOaks Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Took a long walk down the path from Francis Beach with brother elliottpd, visiting from Michigan. Left a MRCOGEO California geocoin. The walk back was assisted by a tail wind that was picking up. The rain started a bit later in the afternoon. Thanks!

A Happy Place

By: Russell Grove and Warren Harding Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Not chosen

I was looking for the same type of flood sign that is scattered around the valley, and based on an earlier log assumed it wasn't there anymore. I think this marker is there and will last a while.

Stories in the Rocks: Yosemite Valley Geology

By: Wintertime Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

I visited some of the spots yesterday, and got up early this morning and finished this one up before Mrs. Bytemobile got out of bed. It was a bit brisk this morning (31 F), but the sun warmed things right up. Thanks!

A Hole In Carlon

By: Death_on_Wings Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

We stopped by on the way out of Yosemite this morning. With four people looking, we zeroed in on it pretty quick. Not much traffic here, and lots of scenery. Thanks!

Royal Cascade

By: Team Gecko Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Virtual

This one cost me a wet leg and a skinned finger. The water was pretty high and fast flowing over the trail, and the rocks in the trail for getting through could use some improvement. I couldn't make out the name very well until I studied the photo at home for a while, an then I may have missed a letter or two. Thanks for the adventure!

Geo Joe's Traveling Show

By: Team Gecko Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Virtual

I got up early and did this one before Mrs. Bytemobile got out of bed. The Memorial reopens May 1st, so I wasn't able to go inside, but it certainly is an interesting building. Thanks!

The Indian Caves of Yosemite

By: 47Dad47, Kolly Wobbels, and 47Tyrone47 Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Virtual

I've been out to Mirror Lake at least once before, but never on this trail. Thanks for the cache!

Split Rock: An Investigation

By: Warren Harding Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Virtual

After a driving tour of the valley, everyone else headed back to camp, I decided to do one more hike before dinner. I have been up this trail a number of times before, but didn't go all that far today. Thanks!

A Happy Place

By: Russell Grove and Warren Harding Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Not chosen

I did this after hiking up to Sierra Point, on a pretty nice spring day in Yosemite. Thanks!

The Nose of El Capitan

By: Warren Harding Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

We joined some other folks in the meadow watching a couple climbers on the nose of El Cap. One was on the top of the boot, and the other was below the bottom, running across the face to reach a crack on the left. Thanks!

Out of the Darkness, into Yosemite Valley!

By: Dave_W6DPS and son Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

We did a valley tour with relatives from Michigan, and decided to come up here for a grand view of the valley. Not a bad view today!

A Bridge in Yosemite NP

By: Dave_W6DPS and son Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Not chosen

I did a little late afternoon hiking and caching, and took the Shuttle over for this one. Thanks!

Yosemite Valley High Water ? The 100 Year Flood

By: Team Gecko Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Virtual

We were staying at the Yosemite Lodge, and this was the perfect cache for me to do before Mrs. Bytemobile got out of bed. The snowstorm of the previous afternoon was over and the sun was out, but it was still a bit frosty this morning. I enjoyed the easy hike. Thanks!

Sierra Point

By: Dr. Bobo Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 4.5 Container: Virtual

I had no problem finding the trail and following it to the top -- no problem other than the huffing and puffing kind. The terrain rating for this trail is right on. The view was incredible, and I took a sequence of photos that I may try stitching into one panoramic piece. Thanks for setting this one up!

Groveland

By: Isolino Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

We took a break on our way to Yosemite for this one. Mrs. Bytemobile headed for the stores, and elliottpd and I headed for the cache. The coordinates were good and the hint was great. We were first to sign the new log. Thanks!

The Highest Leaping Waterfall in the World

By: Warren Harding Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

Big wet snowflakes were coming down, but I decided to do the short hike from Yosemite Lodge before dinner. The dedication of the improvements was just a day or two ago, and the new restroom facility was still closed. The falls were in good working order, though, with excellent water flow and sound level. Thanks!

For Climbers

By: bthomas Adopted by Gary & Vicky Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Other

Today was a poor day for climbing. It was about 36 deg F, and huge wet snowflakes were coming down, obliterating views around the valley.

In The Rim Of The World

By: Death_on_Wings Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

We made a quick stop on our way in to Yosemite. Nice hide!

Buena Vista

By: Rick & Susan Washburn Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

We were headed for Yosemite and this looked like a good place to stretch our legs. Zeroed out on the wrong bush, but eventually wandered around and found it. Thanks!

This one's for the Sarge

By: capnjack46 Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Excellent cammo job on this cache! The hint was crucial to finding this one. GPSr's have a little to much uncertainty under the trees for finding micros. Thanks!

To the Bat Cave!

By: Chickasaw, Spyder Woman & Lorena (Kea's Hui) Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

I was wandering around on campus, not really intending to do this one today, but it was just down the hill from where I parked, so I went for it. I couldn't resist climbing down the ladder to have a look. It was muddy and slippery, and the passage ends about 80 - 100 feet from the ladder at a big pool of water. Thanks for the adventure!

Return of Spot

By: Sgt Stitches and the Cruz Commandos Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

My GPSr initially led be astray, then I misinterpreted the hints and went further astray. Finally the GPSr took me around to the right area and everything fell into place. This really is an amazing spot!

Spring Trail Stamp

By: Chickasaw and BuzzDude Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I was speed reading the cache description on my Palm as I walked around, and was having a hard time finding the cache. I finally figured out I was reading "Don't Take the Stamp". Once I got things straightened out, it was a quick find. Thanks!

Pinogop cache

By: capnjack46 Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

The hints took me straight to the cache. My GPSr wasn't even close. The previous entry in the log book was from a non-cacher family that found the cache. The cache is still overflowing with goodies. Thanks!

Blair Witch'ing

By: zenone Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

There are some strange things out here, I wandered around and found a nice swing hanging from a tree, then finally read the hints and headed for the cache. I saw a couple of bicyclists wending their way along a little trail near here, and I ended up taking it over to Pogonip. Thanks!

Don't Take the Stamp!

By: Sgt Stitches and the Cruz Commandos Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I told Mrs. Bytemobile that I would be back at Sea Cliff by noon, and that hour was rapidly approaching. From Spring Trail, I hiked up through the grass to the UCSC road (and picked up three ticks), got to the trailhead, and headed back down to the rock ovens, where I had been earlier (it pays to read the caches ahead of time and do some planning). Found the cache about the third or fourth place I looked, and made it back by 1 pm. Thanks!

The Blackwood Fairy Circle

By: Jack & Rosie Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

The combination of coordinates and hints took me straight to this one. I took the geocoin travel bug. Thanks!

Ninja on UCSC Campus

By: bobbearxxl Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Other

I decided to do some caching on campus, and this was the first parking lot I stopped at. It turned out to be a good place to park for this cache. Thanks!

The Redwood Circle

By: Jack & Rosie Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

My GPSr wandered around under the redwoods, as they are prone to do, and I did too. Finally figured out the hint about the time I found the cache. Thanks!

Saratoga Creek Overlook #2

By: Bughound Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I stopped by once before, but was a little more thorough in my seaching today. Thanks!

John, the Holy Man

By: spyder woman Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I looked at this when it first came out and couldn't make heads or tails of it, but knew where the phrase came from. I had another look at it today and went for a drive at lunchtime. I drove past the sign once, then spotted it on a second pass. The projection worked great. Thanks!

Rock On

By: Rocket Girl and DuckeyLee Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

This was the perfect spot for this cache. Found it on a lunchtime cache run. Thanks!

101 TFTs - No Pair

By: winini Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

I picked up both an Echo and a Jazz caching yesterday at lunchtime, so I decided to stop by this one at lunchtime today.

Apr 11, 2005

Want fries with that?

By: Somethings Fishy Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

This may be the first non-puzzle here, but definitely not the first cache. Thanks for the lunchtime fun!

John W. Christian Greenbelt II

By: Somethings Fishy Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I met Bullit here for the first time. It sounded like he had a nice morning of FTFs. I had a nice lunchtime, picking up a Jazz token here, and an Echo token at Here Kitty Kitty. Thanks!

Lakewood Park

By: Somethings Fishy Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Other

Great spot for this type of cache. Took me a little while to find it, and about as long to get the log out and sign. Thanks!

Here Kitty Kitty Kitty

By: Somethings Fishy Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I stopped by at lunchtime and grabbed one of the black echo tokens. Thanks!

Let The Climb Begin!

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

This was my first time up this trail. The mountain ahead looked impressive in the morning light and a little daunting. Thanks!

Hole'd On There Pardn'r!

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Micro

This was the first one of the day I walked right up to without needing to read the description or hint. Good thing this has a rubber gasket. Thanks!

Kennedy Meadow

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

This is a spot I bet most of the bicyclists zipping by here miss. The flowers and the view were great today. I sat on the bench and had a sip of water, then another hiker showed up who had been to this spot before. He shared his trail mix with me, and I told him about geocaching. Thanks for bringing me up here!

Take A Break!

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

I started to get frustrated at this one. I just came off a long DNF at Down Town, and beat the bushes here while a steady stream of bicyclists went by both up and down. I finally spotted it, very close to where I had been looking. It shouldn't have been that hard. I think all cache containers need to be painted orange.

Tap'd Out or Top'd Out?

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

This is the second one of the day I probably could have found without description or hint, but just as I was about to grab, a couple of tapped out bicyclists stopped by me for a rest, so I pulled out the Palm and read about the cache. Thanks!

Kennedy Road Trailhead

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

9:00 am - I had nothing I had to get done, so I headed out for a hike this morning.

Spin A Brodie

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

I don't recall hearing the term "Brodie". I guess now days they are "side shows". Nice views and nice weather up here today.

Going Down Town?

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

The hint seemed specific enough, but I sure couldn't turn it into a find. I spent way longer here than I normally would have because I knew it must be here somewhere.

Kennedy View

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

This trail has got to be worse than "The Hill that Never Ends" The uphill slog has been pretty constant to this point. There was a little overcast, but pretty nice views today. Thanks!

Sierra Azul "Relief" Spot

By: pedaler Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

I wandered around a bit, but finally got a look from the right angle and found it. Thanks for the dry log book, CKayaks.

Ah, a never-ending fountain of creativity. Thanks!

Sprite!

By: Cat & Bird Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I made a caching run through south San Jose this afternoon, and stopped by. No one was at the park, and I was able to spot this in about the third place I looked. Thanks!

Cookie Crumb

By: Marky & Joani Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I'll go with the traditional Thin Mint. Thanks!

Vista Remodeled

By: workerofwood Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

I also ended up with bloodied fingers after retrieving and replacing the cache. It didn't look that bad, but something got me.

Turn Over a New Lief

By: workerofwood Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I took a day off from hiking and I just wandered around San Jose a bit caching here and there. Thanks!

Safe Haven

By: Marky & Joani Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I found a couple of sprinker heads that may have been the victims of cachers. One needs a screwdriver to put it back together and the other had a part laying nearby. I did a little grounds work myself, lifting a heavy iron lid off of a sprinkler vault.

Cottle Ranch

By: DR Doolittle, the Mrs. & Zoo Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Virtual

I was driving by this afternoon and noticed a cache along my route, so I stopped and had a look. Thanks!

Hexes Rift Too

By: Marky & Joani Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I stopped by here once when the cache was probably gone. It was much easier today. Thanks!

No need to be Coy Roy

By: GeoSpazz (Adopted by Marky & Joani) Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Unfortunately the cache has collected a little rainwater. I aired out the log as best I could, but it it still a bit mushy.

Rocky's twin (new location)

Wildcat Canyon Owls Nest

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

I thought I saw a cacher trail and a likely hiding spot, but but when that didn't pan out, I read the cache description and hint. It turned out that the cache was only a few feet from where I had been standing. Thanks!

Deer Hollow Farm

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

This was my last stop on the way out of the park. The trails were muddy, but not that many folks were here today. Thanks for giving me an excuse to get out and hike!

Top Of The Hill

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

I aborted a hike planned over near Felton this morning because it was raining cats and dogs. Things cleared this afternoon, so I took a hike through Rancho San Antonio. Left a Jeep travel bug.

Wildcat Canyon Cathedral

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

By: Friendly Four From Felton Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular
